Colts stand by your Manning

Lots and lots of pro manning posts lately. While I would shamefully cheer the move as I did with Mcnabb. My hopes are that at the end of the day. The colts decide that a healthy Peyton even for 3-4 more years. Gives them the best chance at going back to the super bowl. Even tho it seems unlikely at this point. Things change quickly in the NFL. and my post is basically why this is the best case scenario for the skins. By the colts keeping Peyton the entire free agency and draft would change. Without Peyton as a free agent Matt Flynn becomes worth a bit more. But most importantly the draft would be completly shooken up. This works out in three ways for the redskins. #1 The 1st overall pick losses some value. With the colts not needing a quaterback more teams will look to trade with the Vikings at 3 as the price would be lower even if the redskins wanted to trade up. #2 Now two elite qb's remaing. more than likey the redskins would be able to stay at 6 and still be able to get whoever falls to us. Or in a best case scenario actually have a choice. #3 For the trade back club. Say shanny doesnt like RG3 this gives our pick maximum value. now we could end up getting one of those crazy multiple 1st round deals that clevlands been getting. In past drafts the browns have been the team to make bold trades that put dents in all mock drafts. I think that one of the worse things that could happen is the browns deciding that rG3 isnt the qb if the future and trading back with a team like miami or seatle or as a wildcard kansas city or arizona. This woud sting more than them just using the pick. lastly I will say that watching eli beat the pats while entertaing just made me want commit to drafting a top qb even more. but more importantly proved that an elite qb can make up for just about an other weaknesses. Even if you dont run well like the giants. or have a crappy defense like the pats as long as you have a top qb your always in the game. If they do sign Peyton hopefully he can bring some of that to dc. but I would be happier with a top rookie and Orton

Even if the colts decided to stick with Peyton i still think they take Andrew Luck 1st overall so it would not change things all that much. I would much rather have /manning become a free agent cause i read in Miami Herald that Dolphins owner is ALL IN on Peyton Manning and he would be his first choice for QB and Flynn would be his fall back. If Manning did sign with Miami that would be good news cause i think that would clear they way for Flynn to sign with the Browns, and make it easier for the Redskins to get Griffin III

here is where I am going to disagree with you (which is not often)...

IF, and that is a huge if, Indy decides to keep Manning, that would indicate they they feel they still have a chance at winning a SB in the next 3-5 years. Given the new CBA, specifically the contracts given to rookies and how quickly a team has to decide if they are going to retain the player, I can’t imagine they would still take Luck. It would tie up too much salary cap space in one position, you would be paying a guy to sit. And you would restrict your opporunities to sign FA to assist Manning.

So, IF then keep Manning, Luck is available, with the Colts utilizing the draft picks to replenish the roster. All reports today indicate the contrary. If I were Irsay, my position would be to keep Manning, trade away the #1 pick for HUGE trade. But, as of right now, that does not appear to be the case. As much as I would love to have Luck, I believe RG3 will end up being our consolation prize…

I dont

So the colts will say peyton we are commited to you. but instaed of doing everything possible to protect you or help you get back to the superbowl we’re going to draft your replacement with our 1st overall pick. the goal is the superbowl peyton gives them the best chance at that. luck and rg3 are both question marks at this point. Peyton if healthy gives them the best chance at getting back to the playoffs.Luck has said he wants to play so if they do keep peyton theres a good chance that luck says no thanks to the colts. im not sure if browns wont target matt haselback in a trade with the titans over matt flynn. I could see them going more after compition for colt than a replacement maybe Jason cambell would be a good fit over there

Your man boner for RG3 has lasted long enough.

If the Browns are going to make a QB change this season

I think it will be a veteran guy. I still don’t see Manning leaving Indy. I think Flynn make sense for Holmgren. Mike likes vereran guys, and guys who come from a successful system. I also believe he valuse his draft picks too much to attempt to get into a bidding war, just to move up two spots for Griffin. He has never been this way, especially with a QB, and I don’t see that changing just because he has some draft picks at his disposal. IMO, if he wants a change at QB, he’s persue Flynn, and use the picks to bolster WR, RB and wherever else they have holes.

IF Holmgren makes a move up for RG3 in this draft, I’ll be VERY, VERY surprised. IMO, there is less that a 10% chance of him doing so.

I agree

I think he still want to see if McCoy can be the guy but he will either bring in Matt Flynn to be the starter or he bring in another Veteran to compete with McCoy during training camp, but I dont think he want to give up multiple picks to move up 2 spots.

You won't see Flynn in Cleveland

if McCoy is still there. Why sign to compete when you could sign in DC, Seattle or Miami and be the clear starter? Can’t see any of those teams signing Flynn AND trading up for Griffin. One will sign him, one of the others will move up for Griffin, and the third will have to get a different FA QB or gamble on a second tier rookie.

best case scenario

Oliver Luck doesn’t appreciate the way they’ve treated Peyton after all he has done for that franchise, and does not want to see his son held to the standard Peyton was (he’s bound to fail if they expect another Peyton you just can’t duplicate that and not in a year or even 3).

So Oliver Pulls an Archie tells Andrew “you lookie her Cnut, you demand a trade” Andrew listens refuses to go to the Colts and vwal la we have a franchise QB that was worth it for trading up although we do lose the picks we get Andrew Luck and not the 2nd best.

How funny would it be if the release Manning

and then Andrew Luck refused to play for them!!! hahahahaha I can only hope…I’d love to see that organization crash and burn, after listening to what they did to their fans by packing up and leaving Baltimore their karma is coming to them and I hope it comes in a big way.

I don't believe that would happen, not for one single moment...

yes, it is good to day dream, but if Indy releases Manning, Andrew would have the #1 pick’s salary, starting gig; he won’t refuse to go there.

What I still have an incredibly hard time understanding is – IF draft picks are soo important, especially to a team REBUILDING, why would the Colts not consider trading #1 pick for a boatload of picks? Yes, I understand he is the cornerstone (which is why I want him), but I have not heard a reasonable argument from anyone, who preaches the value of draft picks, to explain why the Colts are not considering this option. They could collect draft picks, not only this year, but the next few years. If I was Irsay, that is what I would do, especially since they have completely wiped the slate clean and are starting over (it appears).

yeah they really are getting nothing for Andrew to work with

I’d argue that we have better talent in the WR position then he will have next year.

I think they are still evaluating

If Peyton really is healthy then keep him and make another run for the SB but if not then you’re right that they’ll have to wipe the slate clean.
