If not HIM... Then WHO????

If not HIM... Then WHO????

What if RG3 is gone before #6.... and we can't trade up to get him. Who then do you take?
Now to set this up

I DON'T WANT TO HEAR FROM ALL THE PEOPLE THAT ARGUE DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET RG3...

In this scenario RG3 is not an option. There are teams out there with more leverage than us to make a move for him and it might just not happen. I want to hear the other players out there the Redskins might pursue.

I want to hear the argument who do we take at #6 or do we trade back?

If we trade back with who and at what cost? Also who do we get after the trade? Explain the pick.

Or

If we stay at #6 do we take WR, OL, DL,CB, S......? Why should we take them? Explain the pick.

Or

Do we trade back and reach for a QB like Tannehil or Foles? With who and what cost do we trade? Explain the pick.

Let the arguments begin.
PS. please don't post a argument about RG3 being the only option and there is no other way the draft can play out. We have all rode that argument out already. Let just discuss the possibility of who else the Redskins might be interested in?

Trade back, get some extra picks...

Go with Tannehill or Weeden (I’m now on the Weeden Wagon after hearing how well he practiced during Senior Bowl week) in the late 1st or early 2nd round. That takes care of drafting a QB for the future (hey, Weeden can give you 6-7 years), and gives you extra picks to play around with.

more like 3-4 before he goes on the decline. Im not sold on Weeden feel like there are better FA options out there than him.

If I had to go with a QB I go Foles because I think he out performed Weeden at the senior bowl. But that is just me

I like Foles as well

I think we could trade back several spots in the second and get him.

Somebody is going to have to explain the logic

As to why a 29-year-old quarterback will only last five more years in the NFL.
Does he have an injury history?
Does he have some genetic predisposition to early aging?
Are all quarterbacks who are over the age of 33 statistical outliers?
Why the hell are we even talking about Peyton Manning then?
So Steve Young was pretty much washed up when he got his chance with the 49ers?

I think you get the idea… the "too old" argument doesn’t hold water in my opinion when you compare it to the "has no talent", "poor mechanics" or "is not football smart" tags that could be applied much more liberally to a lot of other quarterbacks.

If your only concern with Weeden is his age, I think that is narrowminded

he does have a history of injuries.

His Baseball career ended due to a torn labrum and tendinitis and in 2010 he Suffered a ruptured tendon on the thumb of his throwing hand and QB over the age of 33 usually go on the decline that is a fact look at McNabb, Brunnel, Collins (not tom but Kerry).
Steve Young and Peyton Manning are a big leap from Weeden it is stupid to even put their names in the conversations he has 2 years playing QB and Young and Manning have been playing QB for many many years prior to being 28+ years of age so they have the experience to be great long after their prime while weeden doenst.
He is TOO OLD he has no more upside you are getting what you see now (im not saying he cant improve im just being critical because age is a big deal that most people will not admit) he will not be like most young QBs growing with age he will be declining from day one pretty much.
plus with a injured Labrum you just dont know if he is just one hit away from becoming the next player with a career ending injury or if the injury will begin to act up 2 years down the line after throwing 400+ passes a year

That is some significant injury history

Thank you for the information.
I’m not sure I totally agree with your other points, but I am going to move him down a little bit on my wish list based on what you said about his shoulder.

I sort of agree with you on weeden

Simple

Trade back, take David DeCastro or Reiley Reiff.

by TheDeepBall on Feb 4, 2012 1:35 AM EST reply actions

I wish we could get both

Both of those guys would help us out tremendously.

by Fred Dudley on Feb 4, 2012 6:15 AM EST up reply actions

Really?

We give the Colts our first round pick and $28mil and they trade us Peyton Manning. (Note: sarcasm font on)

by DudleyDoright on Feb 4, 2012 9:21 AM EST up reply actions

I chose offensive line

Mayock has Riley Reiff rated as his top offensive lineman (for right now; that could change). I am for building an elite offensive line, either by staying put at six or trading back. If we trade back, I don’t want to get to far from the Reiff/DeCastro range because both of them can help us. Reiff could play right tackle for a year or he could go straight to left tackle and TW could move over to the right side. If we do trade down, I would like to pick up at least a second round pick. Another option if we trade even further back is Konz.

by Fred Dudley on Feb 4, 2012 6:14 AM EST reply actions

If we draft a tackle

I think we should let them compete for the job of left tackle with Williams. Depending on who we draft, I am betting against Williams (notice how almost no one ever calls him "silverback" anymore?)

by Skins Fan '77 on Feb 4, 2012 11:53 AM EST up reply actions

that would be a wasted pick

any way you cut it if you pick a T at #6 you will be filling the RT spot, even if Reiff or Martin beat TW out, that mean you will be moving a existing LT which is not a need and moving them to RT which is kinda a need a waste I would rather take Michael Floyd or a CB there, you can get a RT in the 2nd or 3rd rd like Potter, Adcock if you aint trading up. You have to get value when picking in the top 10, that is why i would have picked Eric Berry instead of Trent Williams cause Berry was the best player in the draft, and you could have gotten a guy in the later rds.

by Highspeed30 on Feb 4, 2012 1:56 PM EST up reply actions

You are not going to get exact value

Every time you draft a player… at best, you are making educated guesses.
This coming season will tell whether we "wasted" the number four pick on Trent Williams. Regardless, we have to get a starting caliber tackle, no one on the roster is dependable based on their history.
It would be ideal if we could trade back to get a better value out of our selection, but if we cannot, we can’t let that prevent us from drafting our positional needs… I don’t see a starting quality tackle that we could reasonably target in free agency

by Skins Fan '77 on Feb 5, 2012 12:17 PM EST up reply actions

agreed and if there isn't a top tier QB on the board then fix the OL

WRs mean nothing without a QB to throw to them so the last thing I’d draft is a WR.

by aFan4Life on Feb 6, 2012 1:06 PM EST up reply actions

it doesnt matter who we pick

If we take Reiff,Martin,Blackmon,or even,im gonna get feedback for this,Richardson it will be upgrading our roster.I for one think Richardson is a beast, and Helu is very good ,but not a every down back.

by fatazfoot on Feb 4, 2012 8:40 AM EST reply actions

I would like to see a trade back into the teens.......

I am expecting us to sign Orton if FA, draft Tannehill at the late teens pick, and then go after leaders with all of our accumulated picks the rest of the way.

Can we please get a mother f***ing QB we can be proud of?!?!?!?!?!?!

by shvd98z24 on Feb 4, 2012 8:49 AM EST reply actions

Well....what is your answer then?

Do we pay an unproven Matt Flynn Cassel/Kolb money, do we mortgage the future trading up for RGIII or Luck, do we blow half of our available salary cap on a surgically fused HOFer, or doe we go into another season riding the Grossman/Beck short bus???

Can we please get a mother f***ing QB we can be proud of?!?!?!?!?!?!

by shvd98z24 on Feb 6, 2012 7:29 PM EST up reply actions

when you put it that way....

it makes me lean towards wanting the bionic Manning more and more.

That would be cool.....

if he was bionic…..nothing added to make him super…..he essentially got welded together. Think of how bionic your car could be with the steering welded to the left!

I don't like your expression "Reach for a QB"...

we should trade back, given your scenario, with our focus on next years class, and trading back with this intention (acquiring as many NEXT year picks as we can).

by jgibbsfan1 on Feb 4, 2012 9:20 AM EST reply actions

Trade up for Andrew Luck

there is no player that will be there at 6 that will fill a MAJOR need, there are guy that will fill a need Reiff, Martin,Kirkpatrick, Decastro. But the 2 Major needs are QB and WR and i like the sleepers in this draft for WR. If Blackmon fall to you i can see taking him , but i woould trade him for a additional 2nd and maybe a 2013 1st rd pick. to maybe Chicago, or maybe Carolina

by Highspeed30 on Feb 4, 2012 10:32 AM EST reply actions

If not RG3

Trade back and grab kendal wright at wide reciever and pick up weeden for QB .

by washingtonwin on Feb 4, 2012 10:54 AM EST reply actions

Trading back is going to be very hard to do also. People seem to think its a given.

by HogtieJim on Feb 4, 2012 1:27 PM EST reply actions

well, I did explain, that if we trade down...

our focus should be on acquiring next year’s draft picks. Trading down may be difficult, if you are talking about this year’s draft picks, but I’m sure there are teams that would move up if you are talking about next year.

by jgibbsfan1 on Feb 4, 2012 3:27 PM EST up reply actions

Probably not as hard as you think

if you look at the SBNation mock draft fanpost Blackmon fell to us at 6. There are plenty of teams that could trade up for him.

by TheDeepBall on Feb 4, 2012 2:17 PM EST up reply actions

Probably not as easy as you think
Blackmon falling to us is unlikely despite a random mock in January. Maybe he will slip once teams dig deeper but that would make it more unlikely teams will want to trade up for him. Its always possible a team gets suckered like Atlanta but that is the exception.

by HogtieJim on Feb 4, 2012 4:09 PM EST up reply actions

A team that needs an RT could trade up for Reiff

or if someone really wants Richardson, Claiborne, or Kalil (depending on which falls to us) they could trade up for them as well.

by TheDeepBall on Feb 4, 2012 4:16 PM EST up reply actions

It depends who is there

If Blackmon or Floyd are there at six then there are a few teams I could see wanting to move up. The Bears really need an upgrade at wide reciever. I think they pick 19th and to move back that far, I would want a second this year and a first next year. But neither Reiff or DeCastro will be available at 19 so maybe we could get Konz.

by Fred Dudley on Feb 4, 2012 4:36 PM EST up reply actions

If RG3 was unattainable...

I would take Luck, Kalil, Blackmon, maybe even Claiborne if any of those guys are available when we pick. Otherwise, try really hard to trade back, and get a WR if we move to the middle and we can’t trade back more, or get a QB if we can move more towards the end of the 1st.
I feel that at least for now, those are the consensus top 5, but the number 6 is still very murky. Since there’s no consensus #6, it’s really hard to say who belongs in that spot.
Obviously, a lot will change between now and draft day, including who the top 5 are. When I think about it more carefully, I could see Claiborne falling out of the top 5. Last year, Patrick Peterson went 5th overall and he was supposed to be an extremely rare talent.

by orakpophobia on Feb 4, 2012 11:52 PM EST reply actions

Trade Back for future picks

I’m in the camp that would go all in for RG3 but under this scenerio thats not an option so I would trade back a couple times for future picks for next year’s draft so we actually have the ammo to acquire the rights of a franchise QB. From what I’ve read this draft class is weak besides Luck and RG3 and no rookie QB would be an upgrade over Grossman year one. I would use a Mid RD pick on Wilson from Wisconsin and sign a vet qb as our QB for next year….I do want to stress this scenerio would suck because it would most likely be another medicore season at best and not sure how long Shanny’s leash would be to continue to wait one more year. So far I overall like what Shanny has been doing with the roster.

by Deuce2one on Feb 6, 2012 2:06 PM EST reply actions

i just dont like the trade back for ammo this year to trade up next year for a top QB plan.

this is a option that should be ruled out when the option to trade up for RG3 is ruled out.

by munson21502 on Feb 7, 2012 9:34 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah.....

but if we trade back into the late teens/early 20s….and pick up another 1st rounder next year….then next year we have all the ammo and we won’t mind trading those 2 number 1s for a top QB. We are sitting here listening to all this talk about the Browns having all the firepower to get Griffin this year….we can be the team with all the firepower. Not saying this is what I want, I am trusting the Shanny’s and Allen to do whatever they feel they need to do. I am just showing the benefit of the trade back for firepower next year. Let’s say we trade back from #6 to #18 w/ the Chargers. We give up the #6….and let’s say we get there #18 in plus you would figure there first the following year to be in the 18-26 range plus we get an add’l 2nd and 5th this year. So…we end up with moving back…but with the add’l 2nd rounder we get another potential starter to go with our #18…..we get another role player or sleeper in the 5th…..and we will have 2 1st rounders next year to package together. If we can’t get RG3 or Luck…and the staff feels we are settling with any other QB…..this is a valid option.

Can we please get a mother f***ing QB we can be proud of?!?!?!?!?!?!
