QB Prospect that no one is talking about…

Peyton Manning and RG3 atop the discussion for the future quarterback spot of the Washington Redskins. [Please Shannahan – don’t bother with the Manning sweepstakes (I beg you)! Peyton does not fit this style of offense and would be a highly paid tackling dummy (with a neck issue)]. Another QB in discussion is Ryan Tannehill. He is athletic but not much of a true QB (ex-WR). Just look at his INT to TD ratio - he’s a mobile Rex Grossman in the making (no thanks!). I wanted to throw in another name no one is talking about. Now, you might want to hold your breath…

· Kellen Moore, QB, Boise State

Star-divide

Yes, I said it! This guy impressed me in the Senior Bowl and I’ve seen highlights on him and am growing more interested. Lack of height and not taking many snaps from center are the primary issues with this guy. However, here are some key attributes I see in Moore that could make him a solid future QB for the Redskins.

· Winner (set many collegiate records)

· Leader/Confidence

· Amazing Stats (Yards, TD – INT ratio, & QB rating are off the charts)

· Fast Decision-Maker

· Fast Release (gets rid of the football - opposite of J. Campbell, J. Beck, etc.)

· Anticipates (throws ball where WR’s are going)

· Decent Mobility (can buy time in the pocket)

He would need some time to develop on his footwork, but I love Moore’s potential. This guy may quickly work up draft boards and land in the 3rd or 4th round just because of his potential and stats. More interesting is his drive and confidence that is almost (Tom) Brady-like. Then, he has the baby-face of an Eli Manning.

I still believe the franchise should seek other options (FA, or RG3, NOT P.Manning, etc.) for an immediate solution. The Redskins should heavily consider Kellen Moore as Mid-to-Late round option to develop into a future starter.

Please leave your comments – but first watch some highlights on Kellen Moore (you just might become a believer!)

Man, good thing you put "Tom" in parentheses.

Otherwise someone might have thought you meant the Brady Bunch.

I agree

Brees definately doesn’t have a cannon for an arm. He is smart, has a pretty good system, pretty good recievers and an adequate arm.

Relative to Moore

Brees has a cannon and he’s more accurate.

IDK what you guys are watching

Brees has a pretty damn good arm. He had a shoulder injury early in his career, that effected it some, but once he got back to full strength, he’s been awesome.

I like Moore much more than most on this site...

…but you just invited a crew of people to call you crazy.

Trust me, I know.

Am I blind because Drew Brees does not have a strong arm.

Brees is smart, he anticipates, student of the game and he is a leader. Not to mention Drew creates his own passing lanes by either exiting out the pocket or getting more depth when he drop backs. Kellen Moore has the same qualities and lets not forget when he was against top notch competition he has been at his best. May take him some time to find his niche such as what happen with Brees but I can see him being a quality QB in the NFL. Also he is incredibly accurate avg 70% throughout his college career. I would definitely pick him up in 6th rd.

Let's not forget...

remember Gus Ferotte who was a smaller QB that outplays top pick Heath Shuler? And here we are talking about taking RG3. I’m just saying we need another option for depth here and Moore has high potential.

sorry, you cannot use Frerotte in any discussion as proof of your argument...

Moore is a wafer. He will never amount to anything in this league. Like Shanahan, I place my reputation on this statement…

Moore

He gets no respect for what he accomplished in college.I cant argue with the nay-sayers or the ones on the bandwagon, ive watched him play for years and and id hate to bet against him.Accuracy is the most uderatted skill in QB to most, most people want the tall, strong armed, athletic QB’s.Give me an accurate, quick release QB with a good running game, and ill coach you right down the field!!!!

I'm a Moore fan but....

I don’t know what version of the Senior bowl you watched but the one I saw he looked like shit most of the time. He def. looked better during the last four years. Read this:

He has neither

The arm strength of size to be a qb in the NFL imo

in my opinion

he has a better shot of being coordinator/coach than he does at being QB.

I can see too much of the masked man's stuff...

He’s got a chubbie or something in that one pic where he is sort of sitting on the Delocated logo. And Whiskey Tango Foxtrot with the mask on his head? Is he going to hold me down and make me gay?

talking football

Good highlight video or game tape breakdown or just a prose article analyzing him some? Hard for me to vote on him from just the post.

i wouldnt mind him for a late round pick.

you never know he could be great. the kid is a winner

ditto

not someone I’d bet my career on if I were HC, OC or GM.

Moore is a guy who is going to need 3 years of bulking up before he even has the smallest of chances. Complete waste right now.

by HogtieJim on Feb 4, 2012 1:33 PM EST reply actions

All of this , coming from the fans of a team ........

that got their asses handed to them by ……. wait for it ……… JOE WEBB !

by EldonD on Feb 4, 2012 1:40 PM EST reply actions

Not sure what you mean by this comment. Joe Webb has far more of a chance to start in the NFL than Kellen Moore right now.

by HogtieJim on Feb 4, 2012 4:19 PM EST up reply actions

I can literally throw flat footed

further than moore can with a full 10 yard running start. Guy is an arena league QB at best.

Look I will not go out on a limb for K Moore but,

I will not discredit what he did in his collegiate career. He didn’t have elite talent like Ken Dorsey and/or Colt McCoy. He was like a surgeon in college and I wouldnt be surprise in a couple of years from now when he get his chance that he makes the best of it.

I’ve downloaded and watched some Baylor games in recent weeks. Accordingly, I am fully on-board with us [the Redskins] going after RG3 by whatever means necessary.

That said:
PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE….
Let’s not go down the Peyton Manning highway.
We don’t need anymore TEMPORARY stopgaps.

There IS something that I see in Kellen Moore’s eyes. He’s a true gamer, isn’t he?
Only 6’, but he kinda strikes me as a Drew Brees kinda’ guy…
That would be a really good thing for the team.

Granted – it was a far different day way back when,…
But HELL, Theismann was only 6’ as well.
