The Redskins' rookie is earning some recognition for his leaping touchdown.

Atogwe Stays Positive Through Uncertainty
The veteran free safety was one of the Redskins’ top free agent additions last year. He signed a multi-year deal with the club and was expected to join strong safety LaRon Landry in one of the league’s top defensive backfields. Hard-hitting. Ball-hawking. Tough as nails.

Kerrigan Sees Room For Improvement
Kerrigan – the Redskins’ first-round draft pick (16th overall) in last April’s NFL Draft – exceeded expectations in his transition from a college defensive end to an NFL outside linebacker.

It's going to be tough for Saints to keep Carl Nicks | National Football Post

Nicks told the New Orleans Times-Picayune it was "disheartening" that the team hasn’t come to him for substantive talks to this point. That might be because the club realizes it will not have room for Nicks after bucking up for fellow guard Jahri Evans, who signed a $56.7 million, seven-year deal in 2010. That’s probably right where Nicks would like to be, among the top-paid guards in the NFL at $8 million annually.

I wish the NFL would quitting pushing to have a team in LA

LA never supports teams as they’ve proven in the past. I’d rather seen a team added in Austin TX, or San Antonio, or Las Vegas, or Portland or Salt Lake City, or even Calgary for that matter.

I know it's kinda close to DC....

but Hampton Roads is in need of a professional sports team. A football stadium here would be booming for the area.

There's a reason Hampton Roads has never been able to land a team.

NFL team would never, ever work there. Too many Skins fans and no secondary market. The only thing that would ever even have a hope of being in Norfolk would be the NBA (with such high standards). But the city might have to pony up to finally get rid of their POS arena that’s older than Bill Ward.

I always figured Suffolk would be where a team would land...

The way the interstates run, it would be 45 minutes from Richmond, 30 minutes from the beach, and less than 15 minutes from Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Hampton and Newport News.

There are def a lof Skins fans in the area, but we have around 1.7 million people. They could definitely make some money here, but you’re probably right about the NBA being the team, even though I’d prefer the NHL.

As for the Norfolk Scope….that place sucks, and the Hampton Coliseum is roughly in the same shape. I’d gladly have 10 dollars taken out of my paycheck every week to get a team here. Now only if the other 1.7 million people did the same thing, we could be like the Packers.

45 minutes from Richmond? It's 2 hours away!

You go 64 through Hampton, then take 664 to 460. It’s a nightmare. You can go 95 to 460, but that takes even longer.

hour tops...

Suffolk starts right at the Monitor Merricmac Bridge Tunnel….I can get to the Williamsburg outlets in 30 minutes from there, which is no more than 15-20 minutes from Richmond. If you’re going to VCU area, it does take an extra 10-15 minutes.

Uh, no, it's not older than I am.

I remember being there (albeit as a child) when they opened. We had the AHL Red Wings (I STILL somewhere have a hocky stick that our star forward broke over the head of one of the goalies of another team, from something like 1972ish) and of course the ABA Squires (we shared them with Richmond, IIRC). The Squires had a real shot, until the owner got to penny pinching. When he “sold” the rights to our star player, Julius Erving, to the 76ers of the NBA, that was the end for all intents and purposes. The Squires weren’t one of the ABA teams absorbed by the NBA, and went defunct.

The Norfolk Admirals still do well enough in Hockey after 22 years, though; they’ve moved us back into the AHL. And the Tides have a great following, considering that the parent organizations have been garbage the last few years. Much better than that podunk little town two hours up I64.

Harbor Park was built to be exapandable to a (smallish) MLB stadium, if needed.

It would add a third deck, and stadium seating around Left Field (the picnic area). Doing that would turn it easily into a 35K seat facility, big enough as long as your not hosting the World Series.

Did you know Norfolk had the option of building Harbor Park....

or getting the Va Beach Amphitheater, and they chose the stadium!

1) A team is never going to be in Austin or San Antonio. That’s Jurrah territory!
2) You’re saying people won’t support a team in LA but you think they will in Las Vegas?
3) Calgary? Seriously…

Yea there is so much disposable income in those states, and its not like they're into college football or anything.

You sound like a entrepreneur in 1993, “People like college football in Florida, we should put a team in Jacksonville!”

I seriously hope they really don't plan on adding 2 more teams to the NFL...

32 is enough. If LA wants a team so badly, they need to pony up, build a stadium, and buy a team. Same goes for the potential European team they keep talking about. If Europe wants to see football…they need to get a satellite dish

"Honey Badger Don't Care"

by ptowny on Feb 3, 2012 8:49 AM EST reply actions

Totally agree...

If you think about it, they had to add extra rounds to the draft to compensate for the additional teams. If you add 2 more teams, that’s a minimum of an additional 14 picks, then you have the compensatory picks after that. You might be looking at a whole extra rounds worth of players being added per year, which definitely delutes the talent pool

"Honey Badger Don't Care"

orrrrrrr....

it allows for Tom Brady to be drafted instead of being an UDFA that never got his shot. The Brady rule applies to everything….figured I’d go ahead and throw it out there

"Honey Badger Don't Care"

by ptowny on Feb 3, 2012 9:31 AM EST up reply actions

Brady WAS drafted - 6th round.

Romo was the UDFA.

BIG difference there.

I was thinking more along the lines of the constant expansion of the NFL...

is going to continue to add more picks…which will lead to more rounds.

I know there used to be 12 rounds in the draft, but everytime you add a team or 2, you get an additional 20 or so picks which is almost another entire round

exaxctly

adding two more teams means there would be an odd number in each conference…there’s no way they could evenly distribute the teams, unless they abolish divisions entirely or have one team as a “floater”

As for me, all I know is that I know nothing.

by atark001 on Feb 3, 2012 9:59 AM EST up reply actions

I totally agree

especially with your argument of diluting the talent base…if ain’t broke…I could see scheduling becoming unfair as well…one division with 5 teams and three with 4 teams in each conference…are they going to have the division with 5 teams play each other twice a year or do they only have to play 3 teams in their division twice a year? and how do they allocate cross-divisional matchups since the last place team in a 5 team division wouldn’t have a corresponding team in the other divisions…I don’t know, it just seems like it would muddy up everything (or maybe I’m just thinking too much into it haha)

As for me, all I know is that I know nothing.

The Nats launched a 'Take Back the Park' campaign today

I got an email from them saying that they putting tixs to the Phillies series in May on presale for Nats fans only. Looks like you have to sign up for nationals.com with your home address and that will be used to match with your payment address, which must be in the DMV. I’m not sure if they are checking IP address during purchase. I like the effort, but not sure how well it will work. Hopefully the Nats are done selling blocks of tickets to Philly ticket brokers. Seems like the Skins are going to need to start winning in order to stop other fans from coming. Oh, got my invoice for Skins tickets the other day, yeah.
