Another QB Hits the Market: Jimmy Clausen

ProFootballTalk is reporting that Jimmy Clausen is likely to be released. I'm not really high on Jimmy, but I know some people were back in 2010. In fact I am pretty sure that if Snyder didnt fire Vinny we would have been drafting him 4th overall in 2010. Thank you, Danny. So, I was curious if he's released should we bring him in? I know he sucked but so have a lot of great quaterbacks in their first year. I wont bother naming great Quaterbacks with crappy rookie seasons because he doesnt compare to those guys. Here are his stats:

Star-divide

NFL 157/299 =52.5% 1,558 yards 3tds 9 picks

08-268/440=60.9% 3,172 yards 25tds 17picks

09 -289/425=68.0% 3,722 yards 28td's 4picks

when im asking should we bring him in I mean in a situation like rookie/ vet / jimmy

not to start not to be our qb of the future but as a project qb instead wasting a pick on a additional rookie later in the draft . That way we could fill other needs.

completely agree

There is absolutely no risk bringing him in to compete for a backup role. I’d much rather see what Clausen has then keep Beck on as our 3rd stringer.

Clausen has

the talent, question is can Shanny fix the damage done to his head. On the other side of the coin, we have not had much sucess producing NFL QBs over the last thirty years- Quin, Mirer, Beuerlein , Powlus all come to mind

I would bring in Clausen and Brady Quinn into training Camp cause we need at least 2 QB’s and maybe 3

I wouldn't mind seeing him brought in as a backup

The kid has for sure talent. But there is no way I sign him with the expectation for him to be a starter.

I thought this was going to be a Chad Henne post.

I’d take Henne over Clausen.

I would too

& as far as Clausen is concerned, it’s not just the stats, from all reports he was a major league A-hole in the locker room as well. There is a reason there have been no trade talks regarding him.

Notre Dame brainwashing.

They’re better than everyone else, you know.

What did you hear?

I’d be sceptical about vague griping, especially personal stuff, about Jimmy, because for some reason there was a substantial group of people who seemed to despise him when he was at Notre Dame and was up for the draft. All or most of the dirt was untrue or strongly disputed, unproven, unfair or trivial. Shanahan took a good look at him, and would probably have realized if he was a major league A-hole. I don’t know what happened to him, but he must be talented (I don’t think he “stunk at ND”), so ought to be worth a look, at the right price. Some combo like Orton, Weeden and Clausen could work out well.

Why do you think we passed on him & then made no move to move up for him
Shanahan took a good look at him, and would probably have realized if he was a major league A-hole

You are right, Shanahan did take a look at him….
& I could not find a worse combination of never were & never will be QBs

Some combo like Orton, Weeden and Clausen could work out well.

I would too

although I think he’s hit his ceiling and won’t be more than a backup QB.

prevote...

I was anticipating the FIRST 100% vote on a subject………“Hell, NO”

What a surprise, some out there think he has some talent. I am not one of them, he stinks, he stunk a ND, Carolina, and he will stink wherever he ends up….
