What would you trade to draft RGIII at #2?
This morning mmford10 laid out one of the most well communicated Fanshots of the offseason:
2012 Redskins Draft: Why the Redskins must do anything to get Robert Griffin
If you haven't read it, please give it a read. One question that it brings up that I don't think has been directly address hear on Hogs Haven is, "Exactly what should we trade to move up to the #2 and select RGIII?".
Now i recognize, it is possible that he is there at 3 or 4. It is also possible that we go in a different direction (not trading up, trading back, different player, etc.), but I would really like to know what do we realistically think the RGIII and the #2 pick are work this year.
My thoughts...
I would give up...
2012 #1, #2, #4(from Min) & 2013 #1, #5(from NE). This would only cost us a net of a #2 this year and a #1 next year.
My limit is...
2012 #1, #2, #3 & 2013 #1, #2.
What do would you give up? What would be too much?

I would give a 2012 1st, 2nd and 2013 1st and 3rd
the max i would give up would be 2012 1st, 2nd, 4th 2013 1st and 3rd or 4th. I just dont think it will cost nearly as much as i have heard 1st, 2nd, 3rd in both 2012 and 2013 NOT gonna happen for all that you could get #1 pick and take Luck
I agree...
It won’t take as much as people think, but I am a little worried that the quantity given up for Julio last year could skew what should be reasonable.
We should just give whatever
It takes to get RG3 within reason of corse even if we have to give one extra pick up because if you get a QB say from the FAs your going to pay a arm and a leg for a unproven guy to come here verses if you get RG3 with the rookie pay scale which would be better and less costly . If we do not get him i think it will be a very big costly mistake period . I think that the redskins have a handshake deal with the rams anyway for RG3 , i think alot of people are going to be very excited and surprised by this deal coming in april .
I agree with you (washingtonwin). I think the deal is done as well and I’m elated! I don’t think most peeps realize how much he’s going to impact our team right away. I’m not a pro scout or coach but I do have a solid understanding of the game. I see this as a great pick and we are set for years to come. Cant wait to order my GRIFFIN III jersey. Gaffney is going to have to give up his #…
It will be a long time coming
But if we do get him our team will be a very good team at least 10 wins and he will get better as well( RG3 ) it will be a long time coming too so hold onto your hats and enjoy the ride because RG3 is going to pull a CAN NEWTON just you watch in see . I will go one step further and say if we get him he will be rookie of the year watch in see .

I would start at...
2012 – 1st, 2nd, and 2013 – 1st, 4th. This is neither insulting, and, if agreed upon, is not overpaying.
If the Rams want more, my limit is lower than yours, Btwice. NO WAY, do I include 2nd next year.
LIMIT- 2012 1, 2, extra 4 and 2013 1,3. Any more, thank them for their time and have a nice draft.
WE ARE ONLY MOVING UP 4 SPOTS, PEOPLE, PLEASE…….
Exactly
We’d be moving up 4 spots, they could still be targeting a high profile pick with the number 6 pick or could potentially trade down for more picks.
Browns have the advantage obviously, so as long as they aren’t interested we should be the front runners (if Shanny is interested)
yes but number of draft spots is only part of the issue, teams needs and desperation are another factor
we’ve seen plenty of desperate trades in the past (just as we’ve seen below market ones), and that was a time before a rookie salary scale which helps control prices, making these high picks more valuable. The biggest factor might also be the competition. With the Browns, Dolphins and Seahawks all viable options. Even if Miami takes Flynn that still leaves two options (and doesn’t of course account for any surprises).
My limit would be 1st, and 2nd this year. 1st and 4th next year, plus Jabar Gaffney (note-usually these teams involve some players as well).

that is a very fair deal
i think that would get the job done for the #2 without Gaffney but i would throw him in there. But there is a lot that has to happen between now and then like Free Agency, if Cleveland bring in a guy like Jason Campbell i dont forsee them still trying to draft RG3, but Flynn will take one team out of the race which is probably Miami, and i just dont see Seattle as a true threat to move Jackson seemed to play well at the end of year enough for them not to make a blockbuster trade to #2. So it could come down to Washington and the Browns but it depends on what each team does in FA.
i agree..
Everyone gets all in a tizzy about "gutting " drafts to get RG3….“some of these drafts involve players”. I could see us switching 2102 1sts, a 2012 3rd, a 2013 1st and maybe Jabar Gaffney or D Hall
Hall really has no value
Steveospeak - Content Manager of Fanspeak.com
Anyone we have with value
A) has more value to us than anyone else, and
B) NO! We’re talking about building up this team, and you guys want to not only give up potential starters, but DEFINITE starters???

Thank you... voice of reason... its only 4 spots folks!!! 2012 & 2013 firsts and seconds... and some think its not enough?
For moving back 4 spots?
i understand, but crazier things have happened
in 1998 the Chargers gave up their 1st and 2nd rounder, 1st in 1999 and two players (including their 2nd round pick in 1997) just to move up one spot for Ryan Leaf. That was before teams went really crazy for QB’s, and before the rookie salary scale as well.

So what if you offer to Cleveland for the #4 spot?
A bargain is something you don't need at a price you can't resist....
If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong!

Once you start agreeing with TDSH, you know that you're wrong.
I would actually take 2, 3, and 4th and 2013’s – 2,3 & 4th but it would have to be washingtons picks, none from other teams trades.

Not that simple.
First, the coaches have to bypass QB in free agency. If we sign a Manning, Flynn or Orton, we won’t be trading up. If we don’t, but sign a Stanton type, you can bet that’s for depth/backup and we’ll be drafting a QB.
Fast forward to the draft. Washington did not sign a starter- caliber FA QB. Every team now knows we’ll be trying to trade up to #2 for Griffin. The stakes just got higher, and any other team that wants him, and there are several, will be coming hard at it.
Bottom line? If you aren’t comfortable with a record breaking trade, you don’t have the guts to follow this through. I believe St. Louis will get two 1sts, two 2nds and two 3rds, 2012 & 2013. Value wise that would be the biggest trade in modern draft history.
Personally I’d say swap firsts, give up this year’s 2 & 4 and next year’s 3. That ain’t gonna do it though.

i will take that bet, i know that it wont be that expensive, that is way out of line 1st,2nd,3rd in both 2012 2013
Cause aint nobody gonna make that deal. NOT the Browns, Not the Redskins and NOT the Dolphins, and take into consideration that one of these teams will sign Matt Flynn and it might just be the Browns, i am more afraid of Miami trading up than Cleveland cause i am pretty sure they will stay @ #4 unless it is just a 2nd and 3rd maybe
I don't think it will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd each of the next two years
but I think it will be about 1st and 2nd each of the next two years.
Steveospeak - Content Manager of Fanspeak.com
Jeff Ireland might be the new Dan Snyder
Which means he’ll try like hell to sign Manning, and I hope he does. Failing that, he WILL win a bidding war for Griffin. Also consider that San Fransico, NYJets and Seattle are potentially in play. Jets and Niners will make a play for Manning, but their potential interest in Griffin is unknown at this time. Many have speculated Pete Carroll will wait for Barkley, but his ownership might force his hand. Lots of factors and a long time to go.
by tuckwell on Feb 2, 2012 10:14 PM EST via iPhone app up reply actions
Say Seattle waits for Barkley, what happens if they have a division winning season. Barkley’s price just went up!
San Fran had a division winning season, the price went up on them!
The real players for Griffin are Washingon, Miami, and Seattle – yes Cleveland could want him and that just makes the price go higher. So wouldn’t it be smarter to undercut the whole damn think and make Cleveland the deal thats picks and players, without paying as much you would to St. Louis? It’s a bit pricey for Seattle and so much more so for Jets or San Fran. Don’t forget, Julio Jones was a long distance move up.

Why would we trade players?
The only players we have with true trade value are on our defense. Now you’re gutting the best picks in two drafts AND the defense. Unacceptable.

Someone in the HH organization... please do something about the guy in the underwear on top of the bear rug!!!
I understand that you need to sell advertising… but some of us go into HH in our work place.
Not to mention… its not fun to blog about football, with a guy in his underwear, wearing a ski mask, stradling a bear!

At the most, this is what I would give up...
2012 – Give up a 1, 3, and 4
2013 – Give up a 2 and a 4
4 spots!?!? hmm...
I’d rather see some trickeration on the part of the Redskins brass. Maybe a draft and trade. Maybe even a 3 team trade kind of deal. When was the last time we saw that in the NFL? The hell with with two 1st rounders and two 2nds, ridiculous.
1st (6th overall), 3rd, 4th, none more………fine a 4th next year and that’s it.
your frist option is my top bid
2012 #1, #2, #4(from Min) & 2013 #1, #5(from NE) is the most I’d go with. We have lots of needs on this team, not just QB.
If we are going to bet the farm on a QB, then I’d rather take a shot at luck. Try to work out some 3 way trade which rams agree to move down to 6th, colts agree to take griffin and we get luck at 2
When I was a kid, my father told me, "Never hit anyone in anger, unless you're absolutely sure you can get away with it." -Russell Ziskey
This year's 1,3,5 and next year's 1,2,4
I changed my last name to Shanahan, and now I'm the new OL Coach.
Ransom
The Rams know they can get a king ransom for their pick. Along with picks I’m putting Royster in the mix as he has a similar running style to SJax which might be appealing to the Rams.
2012: 1st, 2nd, 4th
2013: 2nd, 3rd
and Evan Royster
Interesting
I hadn’t thought of including one of our young running backs, but it makes sense in that he is probably work more now than the pick we used on him. Add to that the notion that Hightower wants to return, and Shanny can probably find another 2nd or 3rd string RB later in the draft.
Any player can be a bust
I wouldn’t trade up to get him either. If he did fall to six, I would consider drafting him. I would also listen to trade offers from teams like Seattle and Miami. I really want some quality offensive linemen. The quarterback class next year is far superior and I can wait until next year to get a quarterback.
"The draft class next year..."
Every year the masses fall for this. Last year it was “next years class is going to have 3 or 4 elite levels in Luck, Barkley, and Jones”.
The truth is next year will be the same except we will have to move up further to draft an elite (hopefully), we will have suffered through another year of mediocre play at QB, and there will be a few more teams ‘desperate’ to get a new QB.
I would consider it but i personally wouldn't draft him
I don’t think his game will translate to the NFL at all. He is a great college QB and he should be looked at. I just think after that look most NFL GMs will see what i see.
...and when he is leading the Cleveland Browns...
from the doldrums to the playoffs and the Skins are out of the running by Thanksgiving like they are every season, I don’t want to read another post from you, ever.
The Knightwatchman
Be real
The Browns are much further away from being a playoff caliber team than a quarterback. Colt McCoy has no reliable running game and no one to throw to.
Which is my point for Cleveland to trade the #4 to you guys. Picks and players – we are a better bargain than St. Louis..
A bargain is something you don't need at a price you can't resist....

Fair enough
And when he is on IR or running for his little life behind a terrible line and throwing to terrible receivers who can’t get open i don’t want to “read another post from you, ever”.
how about we throw in a loss to the rams next year as a part of the deal?
under the table deal! and the rams dont take other offers that out bid us by a pick or 2
I would not give up any more than 2012 first and second and 2013 first
If no go, trade down and gun for Tannehill, Foles or Weeden.
everyone of the trade scenarios
can be outbid by the browns
and if flynn isnt good enough for us why would the browns think he is good enough for them ? or miami, or anyone else ?
so much for "all in " eh ?
also if we dont have a FA qb on the roster by the draft we are in huge trouble
if we sign a lower tier FA at qb then we will be selling out our draft for Luck or RG3
We will have a FA on the roster
His name is Rex Grossman

Rocky
I believe Rocky Macintosh (LB) is trade bait for the Rams also. Plus, others like Chris Cooley, Carriker, etc.
My hope is that with trading a few players – we won’t have to give up too many picks this year.
So is Carriker
I keep waiting for Hogshaven to put up a list of the players that are free agents next season. It would save one of these comments on every other post.
Plus, Carriker came from the Rams for a song
Don’t think they’re going to pay more to bring him back.

I would take 1, 2 and 3 this year and 1 and 2 next year
How’s that sound. If you guys like it, tell Snyder and I’ll let him keep his first born.

Dude, thats more than Atlanta paid to move up over what, 20 spots. Your kidding yourself if you think it will cost that much to move up 4 spots. As its been said on many sites, with the rookie wage scale, picks are more valuable now.

I will go on to say that I am in the minority on the DBN site.
I’d love to trade with you guys for the #6 spot and then trade with the Jags for the #7, you can have RGIII and jags can have Blackmon. We get players and picks that upgrade us all over and shave a year or two off of our complete rebuild.

47 Egg McMuffins is my answer!
I can’t imagine that not working!
Trade back
Trade back and get a quarterback later in round on. I think we have a really good chance to stack our roster this year with quality players. We can get more bang for our buck by trading back.
