Due to injury, suspension and lack of talent from our safeties this year. I've looked at some guys in list class and I pick four safeties from each class that i think we should look at.
Rambo really can do it all. He is a tough run defender and an instinctive coverage safety who has a real presence in all levels of the field. The Bulldogs line Rambo up all over the field. He flies around the field and finds ways to be around the ball. Rambo has a big impact in the run and pass game due to his instincts. He has good hands to make tough catches and also does a nice job of slapping passes away when he can't make an interception.Sometimes Rambo can overpursue and be too aggressive. That leads to him getting caught out of position or taking a bad angle. Once he expands his football knowledge and gains experience, he should get better in this regard.
Elam is a natural in the deep part of the field in pass coverage. He is smart and judges the ball well. Elam shows good speed to cover a lot of ground and is able to pick up speed receivers running deep downfield. In zone coverage, he has a quick first step and doesn't get caught out of position. Elam is an intelligent player who should only get better with experience. He is also a hard hitter who punishes receivers when given the opportunity. Elam is very instinctive. He uses those instincts to fly around the field and be around the football, even when plays don't go his direction. Elam is disruptive and has a real presence in the back end of the field. Elam has the size and physicality to play strong safety duties, but he is also fast and athletic enough to cover the deep part of the field as a free safety. Elam has fabulous coverage skills to play man-to-man with tight ends; more so than other early-round safety prospects.
Lester is a good overall free safety who defends the deep part of the field well. He has more ballhawking skills than most safety prospects and will have three years of starting experience entering the NFL. Lester has good instincts and does a good job of reading a quarterback's eyes. He covers a lot of ground in the deep part of field. He has nice closing speed and rarely is caught out of position. Lester is a technically sound tackler in the ground game. He is also versatile because of his size. He is big enough to be an in-the-box run defender with the speed to cover the deep part of the field in pass coverage. Lester projects to being a good man-cover safety on tight ends and receivers.
The thing that stands out the most about Vaccaro is his instincts. He does a good job of staying around the ball in the passing attack and ground game. Vaccaro has good range, too, and covers a lot of ground; posessing the quickness to cover the deep part of the field. He has good size to defend the run and is a nice form tackler. Vaccaro should look to improve his ball skills and takeaways as a senior. If he can produce a nice total of interceptions and forced fumbles, that will really help his draft stock. Vaccaro looks like a strong safety type for the NFL. He also could be a core contributor to special teams units.
