This may seem radical, but I can see into a crystal ball into next offseason. The sports media is beginning to talk about Sean Payton and how he will be a free agent coach after the season and his connections to Dallas. If Garrett doesn’t turn things around in big D, you know Jerry Jones will go after Payton hard. If Shanahan doesn’t turn things around with us, where does that leave Snyder’s thinking with Payton available? I can totally see Snyder having delusions of grandeur with the prospect of having Payton coach RG3. We all know he’d at least entertain the thought. Think how interesting the offseason will be and how the sports media would salivate over the idea of Snyder and Jones battling it out over Payton. We just had an off season of intrigue following the pursuit of another guy named Peyton. Imagine even more Andy Reid can’t turn things around . That could possibly be three teams in the same division looking for a new coach. If Synder sits by and keeps Shanahan for another season, then one of those two teams in our own division will be rebuilding with a great coach. The worst case scenario is we have another bad year and passed up on a chance to get a great coach in which one of our division rivals lands him and they are a year ahead of us in a total rebuild. The best thing is even if we don’t land Payton and Shanahan is gone, we still have a leg up on those two teams by the fact we already have a young franchise quarterback for another coach to build around. I would be sick if we missed out on a great opportunity and watched one of our division rivals become a better team quicker than us. Not that any of this will happen, because most likely Payton will want to return to New Orleans because he is close with those players and will still have something to prove with that team. However, with Jones and Snyder, we have learned anything is possible. Stay tuned fellow Skins fans!
