With safety Brandon Meriweather going to the injured reserve the Redskins have signed 25 year old defensive back Jerome Murphy to take his roster spot. Murphy played his college ball at South Florida where he started 25 games for the Bulls and registered eight interceptions. Murphy was drafted in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Rams.
In 2010, Murphy appeared in 14 games for the Rams. He had an interception, 21 tackles, a fumble recovery, and a forced fumble his rookie campaign. Murphy was placed on IR in 2011 with an ankle injury. This year, Murphy was cut by the Rams during final roster cuts on September 1, but was signed immediately by the Saints. The Saints cut him on September 17 and he was once again not unemployed long as the Lions claimed him off of waivers. Murphy appeared in one game for Detroit this year.
Murphy is expected to join the rotation at cornerback. You can follow him on twitter @Aagent23. This means the Redskins will go into Dallas with four safeties: Madieu Williams, Jordan Pugh, Reed Doughty, and DeJon Gomes.
