5 Washington Redskins Players Who Should Be Benched | Fanspeak Washington Redskins Blog
1. Brandon Banks: Not only is Banks a disaster waiting to happen every time he touches the ball, due to his fumbling issues (luckily none have been lost…yet), but his play-making ability has been grossly exaggerated. It turns out he's not that hard to defend on offense, and has in fact cost the Washington Redskins yardage on a number of occasions.
Captain Robert Griffin III: Rookie QB Receives Popular Vote From Teammates " CBS DC
Coach Mike Shanahan informed the media RGIII was one of three new captains voted in captaincy by the players. Also promoted to official roles of leadership were two veterans – defensive tackle Barry Cofield and defensive end Stephen Bowen.
Redskins Practice Update: Shanahan, RG3 " CBS DC
Pierre Garçon (toe) & Brandon Meriweather (knee) were limited in practice today. "He practiced, so that’s a good sign," Redskins Head Coach Mike Shanahan said on Garçon. "Hopefully there’s no setback and he keeps on progressing." Shanahan said Meriweather "he looked good today". Both players could play Sunday.
DeAngelo Hall: ‘We Need a Win Bad’ " CBS DC
"We got to get a win," cornerback DeAngelo Hall said. "We need a win bad." The Eagles are expected to be without Michael Vick (concussion), although head coach Andy Reid has not officially ruled him out. Just the same, the Redskins are preparing as though they’ll see rookie quarterback Nick Foles.
logan paulsen blazes his own trail to NFL starter | Damn it feels good to be a homer.
"It’s very difficult," Paulsen said. "The fact that your team is still going on without you when you were such a big part of it for such a long time – I was at UCLA four years, Fred’s been here for three years. It just seems like there’s a seamless transition without you there.
The Redskins Blog | Hall Credited With Blocked Field Goal
A review of the Nov. 4 Washington Redskins-Carolina Panthers game by the league and Elias Sports Bureau has parlayed into a blocked field goal for Washington Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall. The play was originally labeled simply as a missed field goal by Panthers kicker Justin Medlock. It came at the 4:27 mark of the fourth quarter of the 21-13 Redskins loss. On 4th and 8 from the Washington 32-yard line, Medlock attempted a 50-yard attempt, but it appeared to be well short.
Redskins Hall: Team in a good position, despite record | WashingtonExaminer.com
A few DeAngelo Hall highlights: On doing different things to try and confuse QB Nick Foles: "I hope so, that’s the plan. He hasn’t seen a lot of defenses in the NFL. It’ll be nice to get him out there and break him in a little bit. … He still has a lot of weapons. We have to play hard. We have to be physical. We have to get a win. We need a win bad."
How much difference will getting healthy make for Redskins?
It might not be yesterday’s dose of optimism, which many of you found outlandish, but it was fairly good news when safety Brandon Meriweather, tackle Jammal Brown and wide receivers Pierre Garcon and Santana Moss returned as practices resumed following the bye.
Redskins’ struggles haven’t swayed Andy Reid’s opinion of Mike Shanahan
"He’s a great coach. You’re talking about a Hall of Fame coach," Reid said in a conference call Wednesday. "A lot of things go into that, and I think he’s trying to rebuild that program, and that doesn’t happen overnight. But you’re talking about a Hall of Fame football coach."
Eagles offensive player to watch: RB LeSean McCoy
"He’s so shifty, and he can take a play that’s going all the way to the right, and bounce it all the way back to the left and get positive yards, and that’s what makes him so tough," Redskins outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan said of McCoy.
Redskins haven’t yet expressed interest in re-signing WR Anthony Armstrong
Wide receiver Anthony Armstrong passed through waivers unclaimed on Tuesday after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars, and now is a free agent. But Armstrong didn’t immediately generate any interest from his former team, the Washington Redskins, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.
Sundberg Feeling Confident, Ready For Action
After breaking his left arm in Week 2, this was the ideal situation for Sundberg to get back on the field this season. "I don’t think that’s going to be an issue," he said, flexing his forearm. "Looking forward, we’ve got seven games left, and I’m just excited to get back with the team and get back in the swing of things."
What a Pierre Garcon return might mean - NFC East Blog - ESPN
The problem, of course, is that even if Garcon plays it does not appear he'll be at full strength. The issue with his foot seems significant, and the main reason he hasn't had surgery to correct it appears to be that he opposes the idea of surgery completely. If this is the case, it's unlikely the injury will heal on its own in time for Garcon to play to his full capabilities this season. And if he plays Sunday or at all in the coming weeks, he may not be the player the Redskins brought him in to be.
Hope at the bottom of the NFC East division apparently goes beyond Washington. Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid didn’t mince words Wednesday in describing the outlook for his team, which is 3-6 and on a five-game losing streak. "That’s the way the National Football League is — you’re in it, and so you keep playing and you play hard and you keep working hard," Reid said during a teleconference. "That’s how you go about business."
Griffin declined to say where he spent the bye week, but said he elected to "get away from the familiar" rather than vacation in his home state of Texas. His intent: "Just clear my head, make sure I came back even hungrier." He added: "I thought I was hungry before the bye week. But you come back and realize how much more energy you have. . . . You know that everybody’s looking at me to be the guy to make everything work."
This week the Redskins are coming off the bye week and desperately need a win against the Eagles if they plan on staying anywhere near the contention.
