For all those screaming for the release of Billy Cundiff and the re-acquisition of Graham Gano (Chris Russell I'm looking at you) let's just take a quick look at the stats. Since, I've given up on a Redskins kicker knocking in a 50+ yarder, I'm only looking at 50> yard kicks.
Cundiff:
0 - 19 || 20-29 || 30-39 || 40-49 ||
3/3 || 41/41 || 37/47 || 34/49 ||
Total: 115/140 = 82.1%
Gano
0 - 19 || 20-29 || 30-39 || 40-49 ||
1/1 || 22/25 || 9/16 || 19/25 ||
Total= 51/67 = 76.1%. stats according to pro-football-reference.com
Gano does have a better track record from 40+, but overall Billy is a surer bet for the three points. For the record, a few of Gano's kicks were blocked, but some of those were also partly his fault.
Overall, I see no need for change. There's a good chance we just saw the worst game of Billy C's career, and unless a much better kicker becomes available in FA, I'd stick with him for now.
