Week Six Injury Update: Taking Care of Business

Has RGIII learned his lesson? And more injury updates ahead of the Vikings game.

It appears that DC's favorite transplant is on the mend following a concussion he sustained last weekend. Much to the relief of everyone—and I mean everyone: family, friends, fans, coaches, and teammates (with the possible exception of Kirk Cousins)—RGIII acknowledged that he needs to prioritize long-term health for the sake of the franchise. He spoke about balancing "the playmaker that I am and living to play another down." We can't know this for sure, but I hope hearing Mike Vick comparisons from every analyst with a mic will be the wake-up call Griffin needs.

On offense:

QB Robert Griffin III—After the "shaken up" debacle last Sunday, the rookie returned to practice Wednesday and devoted part of the session to working on sliding and running out of bounds, eliciting cheers from watching teammates. He showed no lingering concussion effects after the physical exertion, which is a great sign. He's been practicing and undergoing daily assessments of his condition since. Griffin joked that the only side-effect of the injury has been "irritation" at repetitive questions about how he's feeling. Mike Shanahan said he expects the QB will play on Sunday after practicing fully on Friday, but Griffin could still sit if symptoms arise in the interim. Official game status: Questionable.

RB Evan Royster—The back practiced fully this week, indicating that his patellar tendon sprain is on the mend. Official game status: Probable.

WR Pierre Garcon—Though #88 has played in the previous two contests, Kyle Shanahan told reporters Thursday that the foot injury continues to affect Garcon. "You can see him on the practice field and stuff and in the games that it hurts him to run. He has a lingering foot problem and it does hurt him. He's been able to play through it here the past couple weeks and it helps us having him out there, but no, I don't think he's 100 percent." Friday, Mike Shanahan added "It's lingering for sure. It was enough to where he didn't take a lot of reps today... It's a pain issue but it's sore enough to where he can't push off all the time." Despite not appearing on the official injury report, Garcon should be considered questionable.

If he does miss the game with the same turf-toe-like sprain, you have to ask whether the team brought him back too soon. And if all the "pain tolerance" talk is productive. Tell me what you think in the comments.

On defense:

DT Barry Cofield—Treated Friday for an unspecified shoulder injury, but is not listed on the official injury report. I'd say he'll play.

DE Doug Worthington—Worthington missed practice this week with an undisclosed calf injury. Official game status: Out.

CB Cedric Griffin—A hamstring strain has sidelined Griffin since the Bengals game, which understandably puts a damper on his excitement to face his former team, the Vikings. Official game status: Questionable.

CB DeAngelo Hall—Along with Cofield, Hall required treatment for an unspecified knee injury on Friday. He, too, did not appear on the official injury report. He'll be dressed come Sunday.

S Brandon Meriweather—Still not practicing. Meriweather is expected to miss an additional four weeks. Official game status: Out.

As usual, tell me if I missed anyone.
