Washington Redskins Staff to coach in the Senior Bowl

According to @SeniorBowl The Redskins coaching staff will be coaching the South team in the up coming senior bowl while the Vikings staff will take on the North squad.

Should be a good chance for Shanahan and co to get an up close look at some interesting senior prospects.

The game is Saturday the 28th of January with practices starting during the week beforehand.

Update:

Nice little tweet here from @SeniorBowl:

selected a league-leading 6 Senior Bowlers off of last year's roster, inculding 1st rounder

This is great for us...

Shanahan seems to be a good judge on whether a player can be coached up or not…much better than a pro day

And the Shanny plan of drafting “team captains” looks to continue…

by FlaGators on Jan 7, 2012 4:54 PM EST reply actions

I love it.

All of the Senior Bowl players we drafted are ballers.

I’m ready for round two.

I see it as more cushion for the pushin'

things seem to be working out

I think we can look forward to another excellent draft.

I wish I could get over there

for the Senior Bowl or the Combine….

Isn’t the Senior Bowl usually on TV?

by UkRedskin on Jan 7, 2012 6:22 PM EST up reply actions

The practices and the game is on NFL Network

The actual combine doesn’t seem that fun to me, but just the extracurricular that go with it (which JimmyK couldn’t hand). Also I don’t think I would ever want to go to the draft either.

He might not now that Shanny has been a coached.

Either that or he’ll have to exclusively cover the North team

Shanahan will be coaching Nick Foles.

Foles will be a lock to go in the 1st round after a strong week. He’s been training with Ken O’Brien and Athlete’s First, the best of the best, to tighten up inconsistant footwork, and add some zip to his medium and deep throws. Put it in the bank, Foles will be a Redskin. Buy your new #8 jersey, not Rex’s either.

Foles has a hitch in his delivery, which is somewhat worrisome to me

When I first watched highlights of Foles that stuck out like a sore thumb.

You can’t fix that. You can make it look better while throwing in shorts, but people always go back to their natural throw during a game.

If we don’t trade up for Griffin, make a move for Tannehill.

I see it as more cushion for the pushin'

The funny thing is that you and I are talking about two seperate things.

I see what you are qualifying as a “long” delivery and pulling the ball down to far, but I don’t see it as that big of an issue. He still excels at getting the ball out quickly and was asked to do so often at Arizona. You also said you liked Mallett last year and Foles’ delivery isn’t nearly exaggerated as Mallett’s last year (not even close), so why would you like Mallett and then call out Foles? (just curious)

What I see is a hitch at the top, almost like Rivers but without the goofy footwork. It’s very hard to see (I don’t know how I noticed it, it may just be in my head), I discussed it with UK when he was evaluating Foles and he saw the same thing after awhile, it’s most noticeable on view from the endzone.

I just watched the tape of Foles vs. AZ State (http://draftbreakdown.com/nick-foles-vs-arizona-state-2011) and I really don’t see it as that big of an issue and he is still an intriguing prospect. He may actually be a better fit for our offense than Tannehill, but I’ll leave that up to Shanny as he will get an up close look at both of these guys.

I like Mallett because he put up consistent numbers in the SEC.

Has a pretty deep ball and had good size.

I’m afraid Foles is asking for somebody like Justin Tuck to rip the ball out.

I just think Tannehill has a tighter delivery (not to mention he can be asses and elbows if need be.)

But I’m stoked that Shanny has the chance to get an up close look at these guys.

I see it as more cushion for the pushin'

Who are the QBs so far? And aren't they likely going to take the "Top 6" regardless of "North/South"?

I know Kellen Moore and Russell Wilson are going.

I just don’t get why they haven’t announcing headlining prospect Chris Summers yet?

I believe Moore might be the only one confirmed to accept

but Wilson, Tannehill and Foles are all confirmed to get invites. My guess would be Cousins for the North and Weeden for the South, but you have Keenum and Lindley as South options as well. I haven’t heard who is going to the Shrine game, and Keenum would be an obvious choice for the Texas vs Nation bowl.

yeah i'm just going by the official SB roster

I expect Foles and Tannehill will accept as well pretty soon.

Foles is 6'5 and has a good deep ball also.
I’m afraid Foles is asking for somebody like Justin Tuck to rip the ball out

Just for the sake of discussion, by this assessment wouldn’t Mallet be more susceptible to this? Also Foles is 20 times more mobile than Mallett. I agree with the long delivery as you’ll see below, but he seems to only go to it on deep passes (watch the tape with all the throws, not just highlights and I think you’ll see). I just don’t think it’s fair to criticize Foles for it but say you liked Mallett as a prospect. If your mind is made up on Foles delivery then something similar should’ve happened with Mallett last year. They have similar backgrounds also (minus the crack and disgusting coed stories), Foles transferred from Michigan State.

I'll watch some more film on him.

If he can play he can play. He might be a good fit for us.

I see it as more cushion for the pushin'

by iH8dallas on Jan 8, 2012 11:42 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

i think the other thing to remember is Mallet was surrounded by talent

where Foles is not. Hell even Joe Flacco at Delaware had more talent than Foles does.

I’ll watch some more film on him.

Can we please stop calling it film? We’re watching YouTube highlights not official coaches game film. Let’s not try and sound more important than we are, here.

Nit picky, I know, but it bugs me when people do that

by mbedner on Jan 8, 2012 12:24 PM EST up reply actions

Depends on what you're watching...

Some people do just watch youtube highlight reels that are like a minute long, but a lot of use sites like www.draftbreakdown.com where you see every snap for a particular player. I’m not just watching the good, but the whole game rather. So can we call that film? Or do we need a telestator?

Those are television angles

Not game film angles. There is a distinction. Thus, you must not be allowed to call it film.

by mbedner on Jan 8, 2012 1:36 PM EST up reply actions

Technically nobody uses film anymore.

Can I call it watching digital?

I see it as more cushion for the pushin'

by iH8dallas on Jan 8, 2012 4:41 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

this is great

the coaches will have a really close look at some of the QBs!

I’m still intrigued by Foles because I think a lot of times QBs from schools loaded with talent have their flaws hidden while guys who come from less talented programs struggle but are actually better prospects.
