My draft after the senior bowl

I am doing this without trade -ups or downs . In this scenario all attempts to trade up or down failed and the assumption is made that the 2 top qbs are gone .

1) Riley Rief . OT I know the chorus of , "you cant take an RT that high " will sound off, however that line of thinking applies to the Pre -wage scale days

2) Nick Foles QB big tall kid with footwork problems and some game knowledge issues. . He isnt a day one starter but with full OTA's , TC , and preseason he might be ready at mid season .

3) Juron Criner WR I think hankerson and this kid would be a great young tandem for us .

4) Brad Smelley , TE , A young Chris Cooley and the original one should be released in 2013 for cap reasons

4) Russel Wilson QB Short qb but he has intangeables . We need 2 qbs so take a flier here on this kid

5) Chris Rainey RB/WR KR /PR A quick , fast all purpose playmaker Good for about 10 touches a game

6) Tank Carder ILB , needs to bulk up but should be groomed to take LBF's place

7) Brewster C we need a center and perhaps this guy can be groomed for the job

Draft subject to change do to free agent pick ups and how these guys really grade out after all the sr bowl /combine stuff get calculated

nice mock

I would swap foles for weeden and russel wilson i would swap for kellen moore
I like the positions you identified as needs except i didnt see cb or more importantly saftey

by taylor21 on Jan 30, 2012 3:07 PM EST reply actions

we do need CB and safety

so you could go there . i just went offense heavy because that is where our real issues are .
free agency will change this mock over in a heartbeat as will the combine

by skinsdad62 on Jan 30, 2012 5:37 PM EST up reply actions

this is wilsons first year with over 60% comp

moore has never been below 64%

moore =this year comp %76.5> wilson 72.8

moore=142td-28pick> wilson 109td-30picks

wilson = best OL in college/ elite rb < moore less talent around him more consistent

by taylor21 on Jan 30, 2012 3:35 PM EST reply actions

I will say it again

Kellen Moore, long term, will be most productive QB after Luck and RGIII to come out of this draft. You can coach accuracy, you either have it or you don’t. See McNabb, Donovan

by Bryan Black on Jan 30, 2012 5:46 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

Guess you think the entire class will be a bust, then.

Moore has never consistently faced anything approaching difficult opposition on the field. Kinda helps your accuracy when whatever high school team Boise played every week had the football equivalent of nine year old girls in the backfield.

by tuckwell on Jan 30, 2012 6:40 PM EST up reply actions

No, I just think long term he will be the better QB

The class all won’t bust. Will he be the greatest of all time, no. It will depend on where he goes and what kind of opportunity is presented to him

by Bryan Black on Jan 30, 2012 9:16 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

What kind of opportunities are there

for a 5’ 10" 190lbs QB with a weak arm? I see Arena League written all over this kid.

Nice job

But I dont think Brewster is going to last till the 7th. I might be tempted to replace Smelley and Russell with a C and CB. Also, I think we have two 6 rd picks this year.

Brewster won't go past the fourth

I think Konz goes in the first, Brewster and Jones go in the third and Molk goes in the fourth

by Fred Dudley on Jan 30, 2012 7:40 PM EST up reply actions

Sounds in line

with my thinking. I also like that kid Vachos (sp?). I might be tempted to take Gerhart in the 6th if he is still around, and we did not adrress C earlier

Think we only have one 6th rd now.

The Skins traded Vonnie Holliday and a 6th round pick for Tim Hightower. Per Kent Somers of The Arizona Republic, it was actually a conditional 6th round pick that could have become a 5 based on playing time. With Hightower now on IR, it’s a 6. I’m not sure if the Skins traded this 6th round pick, or the one they acquired from the Vikings below, although it’s of little importance as both teams are going to be high in the draft order.

The other one we have is for McNabb

by ipitydafu on Jan 30, 2012 5:47 PM EST up reply actions

I like the Foles and Criner combo

and I agree that Hank and Criner would be a nice combo, but I truthfully hope this would be as a last resort.

I would prefer Hankerson and Toon

I think Nick Toon would be a great fit for us. He has the pedigree and he should know how to act, his father was, from what I hear, a pretty classy guy.

by Fred Dudley on Jan 30, 2012 7:42 PM EST up reply actions

I'm not a big Toon guy

I think he plays too soft. Doesn’t like to go over the middle, and doesn’t have true outside speed.

Yeah, Molk is very solid

a little on the light side which worries me, but I’d imagine we could add 15 lbs to him in the offseason. Michigan used that damn HIT program, which sucks for S&C.

Myers is south on 300 lbs, no?

I don't think we'll draft two quarterbacks this year

I think not so sexy comes back and starts next season unless we get Luck or RGIII.

by Fred Dudley on Jan 30, 2012 7:43 PM EST reply actions

A few changes

1) Riley Rief . OT I know the chorus of , "you cant take an RT that high " will sound off, however that line of thinking applies to the Pre -wage scale days

2) Nick Foles QB Tannehill, or Weeden – If we are going to take a project in the 2nd round (and hope to start him mid season), let’s get one that has mobility or shows the skill set. Did you see Foles in the Senior Bowl practices…sad

3) Juron Criner WR I think hankerson and this kid would be a great young tandem for us .

4) Brad Smelley , TE , Alex Hurst, OT/G, While I agree that we need to think about the long term viability of TE, I don’t think it is an immediate need (Paulson & Cooley/Davis) are more than able to get us through the next year – plus this a weak draft at TE. I think we should take a look at Keenan Robinson, OLB he produced the past 2 years and jumps out if watch games. He also has protypical size (6’2" 240) and speed (4.55) to excel at the next level (When Lomdon retires). He also comes from a program, Texas, that has recently produced defenders with great work ethics

4) Russel Wilson QB Brandon Washington , G, He has great athleticism and a high ceiling. I understand wanting to add another QB, but in the 4th round you still have the opportunity to uncover real depth and a contributor. Do we really want to spend this pick on a QB that even at his ceiling probably will never be elite.

5) Chris Rainey RB/WR KR /PR A quick, fast all purpose playmaker Good for about 10 touches a game – A very nice option. he should replace Banks and provide another change of pace if Hightower doesn’t recover. I would also consider, Neiko Thorpe, S, he has the height (6’3") and skill set (converted cb) to cover TE’s off the line and help our CB’s.

6) Tank Carder ILB , needs to bulk up but should be groomed to take LBF’s place

7) Brewster C I think this would be a phenominal pick…the catch is that Brewster is continually projected to go in the first 3-4 rounds. That said, if he falls, he is a no brainer. More than likely We should look at Chase Ford, TE, – He shows the speed (4.69) and size (6’6", 258) to play at the net level, but he would need a year to develop.

re: Foles

Don’t throw out years of tape on a guy because of one bad week. Or one good week, for that matter.

by tuckwell on Jan 30, 2012 10:53 PM EST up reply actions

I don't throw it out

He just looked as unpolished as I could have imagined…He he were a 3rd round pick it may not bother me as much, but I don’t see anything that makes him look like a better candidate than Tannehill or Weeden (who has 1st rd level tape).

by btwice on Jan 30, 2012 11:12 PM EST up reply actions

No way Tannehill has 1st round tape

if anything, he has 3rd round tape, but scouts say 2nd round due to upside.

6th round

6) Tank Carder ILB , needs to bulk up but should be groomed to take LBF’s place. He is projected to be gone before the 4th and is highly unlikely to sniff the 6th round. Additionally i address LB in the 4th round, so I think it makes sense here to look at Trumaine Johnson, CB, he has the potential and size(6’2", 205) to be a 1st tier CB but needs some coaching

by btwice on Jan 30, 2012 11:09 PM EST up reply actions

my beef withn weeden is

his age
i think keenan robinson would be a great pick
i dont have a beef with brandon washington either but i think we should pick 2 qbs
thorpe is another great option there
chase fored at te in the 7th after passing on smelley is also good
nice response to my draft

by skinsdad62 on Jan 31, 2012 3:39 PM EST up reply actions

skins dad

i like picks 1,2 and 3. first 4 i would get the best o- linemen on the board, second 4th ied get best d back,5. ied get another lineman either D or O we could use both. i might even wanna get a cb in the 3rd round if a good 1 is there instead of the wr. we have poor luck with wrs so i think we gotta try the FA pool for them since thats where our best wr in the last few years came from.

by munson21502 on Jan 31, 2012 11:01 PM EST up reply actions

2 qbs

i dont see a viable free agent qb so i say pick 2 if we dont no big deal
the rb is a playmaker in several phases of the game and we need offensive playmakers
the te is insurance against davis drug or signing related , again we can pass on that
now , what would you do differently ?
someone above posted what he would do and his ideas were good

by skinsdad62 on Jan 31, 2012 3:43 PM EST up reply actions

Juron Criner in the 3rd?

Or Juron Criner as our #3 target? I’m having a hard time believing that he will be there in the third round.

hankerson had a big senior bowl

so i am thinking another round of magic can happen

by skinsdad62 on Jan 31, 2012 3:44 PM EST up reply actions

I know some people are skyrocketing Criner up their draft boards

but I can’t see him going that high, unless he runs a ridiculous time at the combine (which he’s not expected to do)

Hankerson was considered a 4th round target before the SB, and he also had a pretty strong combine. Where as Criner was considered a late rounder, and some people thought he might go undrafted (which seems ridiculous)

Steve

Thoughts on Acho, Cole, and Bradham at ILB? Do you have a preference? I assume that these guys would between the 3rd and 5th rounds.

huge fan of Cole

I really like his potential: really good size, nice instincts, good speed (for the size). I think he’ll be a late 3rd rounder at worst.

As for Bradham and Acho I think they are very similar. I think Bradham will go slightly higher (late 4th range) but have a preference for Acho. It’s not a big difference between the two, but Acho I think has a bit better instincts.

would like to pick one of these guys up hopefully in the 4th

Agree I like Cole alot as well. Thanks! Acho seems to be the kind of guy who is always there to make the play
