The one Quaterback nobodys talking about for the skins

There has been a lot of talk about who will be quaterbacking the redskins in 2012. Weve heard Peyton Manning (makes no sense). We have heard Matt Flynn and even Sam Bradford at one point before jeff fisher was hired. while I am in the trade up club I do understand that come draft day this might not be possible . So I deiceided to throw on emore name into the mix. Just for the sake of different conversation. my bold perdiction is that the 2012 starting quaterback for the Washington Redskins will be ........

Star-divide

Collin Kaepernick thats right i said it the first round pick soon to be bench warmer for the San Fransisco 49rs. I think out of all the current player options out there. Collin Kapernick would be the cheapest as far as contract and trade value go for the redskins to aquire. As a back up with no tape he cant be worth more than a 2 or 3d round pick . He is still young at 24 years old and still has the ideal size 6"5 233lbs that you look for in a qb. I personally think hes got a ton of upside and potential looking back at his college career.

Here is some backround on him from wiki

On November 26, Kaepernick led his team to a 34–31 overtime victory against the previously undefeated Boise State Broncos, snapping a 24 game win streak that had dated back to the 2008 Poinsettia Bowl. This game was played on Nevada's senior night, the final home game for Kaepernick and fellow notable senior running back Vai Taua. Nevada Head Coach Chris Ault would later call this game the "most important win in program history." During this game, Kaepernick surpassed 1,000 rushing yards for this season, becoming the first player in NCAA history to have over 2,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing for 3 consecutive seasons. Along with Taua's 131 yards rushing in the game, the duo became the NCAA's all time leaders in rushing yards by teammates (8,285) passing the legendary SMU "Pony Express" duo of Eric Dickerson and Craig James (8,193).[8]

On December 4 against Louisiana Tech University, Kaepernick joined Florida's Tim Tebow as the second quarterback in FBS history to throw for 20 touchdowns and run for 20 in the same season. Later that same evening, Auburn's Cam Newton joined Tebow and Kaepernick as the third. Kaepernick's three rushing touchdowns in that game also placed in him in a tie with former Nebraska QB and Heisman Trophy winner Eric Crouch for most rushing TD's in NCAA history by a quarterback with 59 in his career. Nevada claimed a share of the WAC title after defeating Louisiana Tech.

Kaepernick is the only quarterback in the history of Division I FBS college football to have passed for over 10,000 yards and rushed for over 4,000 yards in a collegiate career. Kaepernick is also the only Division 1 FBS QB to have passed for over 2,000 yards and rushed for over 1,000 yards in a single season three times in a career (consecutively).

I think I would actually prefer to grab him for a 2nd than take a chance on someone falling to us in the 2nd .

Relax Chris Russell, we're not going to get him.

Dear Passionate fan, I know you are passionate, but please reply with a logical answer or I will ignore you.

Devils Advocate

First, I believe he was drafted in the 2nd round.

Second, I don’t think Alex Smith has cleared all doubts about him being the longterm franchise QB in San Fran.

Third, how do we know what the coaches in San Fran think of Kaepernick? They might be very high on him as a developmental talent.

by StephanHart on Jan 23, 2012 11:12 AM EST reply actions

your right he was a 2nd round pick

Alex Smith will be resigned this off season and probally for more years than kirkpatrick has left.
last year he signed a 4 year contract for 5.2 million of wich 3.8 is guaranteed so he has 3 years and maybe 2-4 million left. I dont know what the coaches think . but i think for that price we shoud be calling San Fran to make an offer they can get a back-up anywhere

by taylor21 on Jan 23, 2012 11:21 AM EST up reply actions

He looked atrocious in the preseason.

i don’t think he threw a TD, and had something like 7 ints. Also, at a 2nd rounder, he’s a cheap option for SF to keep for next year, and someone who Harbaugh has had some time with, so there’s no reason for SF to give him up, especially cheaply.

I’d guess it’d take a first rounder PLUS to get him from SF. Not a great plan.

by timith on Jan 23, 2012 11:48 AM EST reply actions

based on those facts

there is no way they could expect to get a 1st round pick for him. While in all likelyhood they are’nt intersted in trading him. his value should’nt be that high . I should have added an option of drafting foles / tannehill and then aquiring Kapernick for some players

I kind of want TJ Yates

for a third rounder or less.

What is wrong with you.

He didn’t look good with a GREAT team around him. He never ‘won’ a game for the Texans, he just played ‘okay’.

by timith on Jan 23, 2012 11:49 AM EST up reply actions

he looked good for a rookie. poised.

worth a flyer IMO

nobody said "or higher". I said 3rd rounder or less

he’s a rookie QB who played with good poise and showed flashes.

that is pretty much textbook definition of flyer.

I don't wanna

Trade for him, but it is sickening to me that they got him with the pick that we gave them.
Again, I don’t think he’s worth giving up much for, maybe a combination of low picks, but I would rather have him than Grossman. Especially since it seems he picked up this vaunted “system” that everyone thinks makes Rex so valuable.
This is an example of why trading back is not always the best option. Yeah, Markus White showed promise in the preseason, but he is behind Rob Jackson, who is behind Rak. Meaning he’s not starting anytime soon. And Aldrick Robinson? Sorry, I’ve had enough of underperforming wide receivers. Especially small ones.

Where do they teach you to talk like this? In some Panama City "Sailor wanna hump-hump" bar, or is it getaway day and your last shot at his whiskey? Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

HH discussed Kaepernick at great length last year

and it is quite possible the Skins would have grabbed him in the second round (or maybe tried to get him in the third round) but SF took him first. After Newton, Locker, Ponder and Gabbert were taken, Dalton, Kaepernick and Mallett were next in line. If Colin was a good prospect last year, he still is – because (as far as I know) he has not done anything to lower his potential. So I’d tentatively rate him as worth a second round pick, roughly equal to Tannehill, Foles and Weeden, and a definite possibility if we miss out on Luck and RG3.

Kaepernick is not going anywhere

If and when Alex Smith bolts, he will step right into the starters job.

not what I would do...

if I am trading for a qb, this is not the guy (testing out my new tablet, thanks)

Question for you JGibbs

How do you scroll through the new comments on a tablet. On my desktop, I continually hit the Z button to scroll through the newest comments, and thats why I hesitate to use my tablet to view this site. Is there a way to scroll through the new comments seamlessly on a tablet?

I just took advantage of Blackberry sale of their Playbook tablet...

64gb for $299. It is just like my laptop. Each new post is highlighted and is updated as they are posted. I can scroll through posts normally, and when I tap “Reply”, my keyboard pops up and I start typing. I am loving this…

I never tap Z...

the posts are uploaded practically instantaneously

actually, it is because I have not tried it...

each day, something new develops. I become more aware of how to manuver around this site, and as I get more polished, I will continue to jump right into where I probably don’t belong

Not sure why he would be more

appealing than Foles or Tannehill. Also, why would SF give up on him unless they recieved an offer equal to greater than a 2nd round pick they sent n him last year.

This is not a bad suggestion...

Honestly, I’d rather have RG3, but I loved Kaepernick last season and thought the Skins should have taken a chance on him in 2011 Draft. Big, strong… It would be workable… but again, not my first choice.

Nice idea but

San Fran is not goin to let Kaepernick go. Cant you see their overall plan….they have leverage now.

by mr.snyderhireme on Jan 23, 2012 1:46 PM EST via mobile reply actions

not going to happen.

They still may choose to get rid of Smith this season.

by TheDeepBall on Jan 23, 2012 1:48 PM EST reply actions

Kaepernick?

Didn’t want him last year. Still don’t. I thought the quarterback nobody was talking about was going to be Josh Johnson. At least he is a free agent (no trading picks) and there is some game tape on him.

by JMC27 on Jan 23, 2012 2:20 PM EST reply actions

WTF

People in Redskin Nation really need to stop doing so much drugs. The reason the Redskins have been so bad for 20 years is taking other teams leftovers,Brunnell,Mcnabb,Johnson,Rex,Beck. Stop the madness and lets finally stop going after left overs and draft a franchise guy. For crying out loud I have heard some of the dumbest ideas ever the last few days.Free agency the draft cant get here fast enough.

by kevinjames73 on Jan 23, 2012 3:38 PM EST reply actions

you must have not read the post

I am not advicating this. personally I would like to trade up. I was just throwing this out as an alternitive to overpaying for peyton or flynn. also i dont think you can put him in the same catagory as those other guys who all have played before. If we miss on rg3 and someone in the first round takes tannehill and foles. what do we do with our 2nd round pick ? this was purley meant to be a change from the daily trade up/ stay pat/ trade back/ get another free agent talk. I do agree with not getting leftovers from other teams shanny has swung and missed with that bat 2 years in a row. but this guy at 24 with a 3 -year 4million dollar contract is worth a 2nd or 3d or preferably for some players. but this is just talk i dont think it will really happen

by taylor21 on Jan 23, 2012 4:05 PM EST reply actions

yeah i dont think San Fran is looking to trade him, unless they getting a 1st rd pick and i dont think Shanny will give that

But all in all he is too much of a unknown to trade for or for San fran to trade even though they seen him in practice

by Highspeed30 on Jan 23, 2012 4:08 PM EST reply actions

So your idea

Is to trade for a guy everyone said was a developmental guy last year who stank it up in pre season is the fix for the most important position on the field and the biggest need for the Redskins. Try and defend what you said any way you want but its stupid and would be a waste of a pick. There is a reason Dalton and Gabbert and Newton and Ponder all got starts while Kapernick sat on the bench and got beat ot by Alex Smith dont puss out an say its only talk. thats your idea so defend or why take up space on teh message board with this junk? Enough of it here already without crack pot thinking like this Why other teams fans think of us as jokes

by kevinjames73 on Jan 23, 2012 4:15 PM EST reply actions

calm down its not that serious

So whats your back up plan if we dont take a qb in round 1 and nobody falls in our lap in round two? Like I wrote this was just to change the conversation . If you dont like what I wrote thats fine. I want to trade up but thats been said. so whats wrong with throwing out another option that hasnt been mentioniond . If we miss out on the top 4 qb this year whats wrong with taking one of the top 5 qb from a year ago if the price is right? or even getting him in adition to foles or tannehill. we have 3 holes at qb right now like it or not one will be filled with another teams garbage .if we could get Kapernick for a player and a 3d or 4th pick whats so wrong with that?

by taylor21 on Jan 23, 2012 4:28 PM EST reply actions

Do you have

A little red word that says ‘reply’ on your screen?

Something useful

Well, I could’ve asked what a QUATERback was, but I figured he would’ve caught it by then

Seriously though, I’m not trying to be a dick, it just makes it harder to follow the thread when you see a standalone statement that was meant to be a reply.

As for the topic itself, I just had no interest in commenting, because I don’t think there’s any chance of it happening. I do, however, like to read what others on here have to say, whether I agree with it or not.

So now

its gone from a 2nd or 3rd to 3rd or 4th. And what type of player would a team use a 2nd round pick on then trade for a 3rd or 4th after 1 year say? It good to look at other options but this one is one of the dumbest I have heard so far. You just liked Kapernick last year and refuse to give it up. And thats the way to build a Champion. lets go out and ill the team with the 5th best player at each position when they came out of the draft. Who needs the beast players.

by kevinjames73 on Jan 23, 2012 5:28 PM EST reply actions

i want rg3

I don’t care about kapernick but who wants to read another why we need rg3 post. This was purely for conversation I don’t want this to happen but I am thinking about all our options in case one scenario doesn’t work out . You still have yet to answer my question -if rg3 is gone and foles and tannehill go before we pick in the 2nd then what? We still need more than 1 quaterback

by taylor21 on Jan 23, 2012 6:40 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Anything else?

Are you gonna take anyone else off the board? You said you are looking in case one scenario doesnt work out When you mean if 3 or 4 scenarios dont work out. And if that happens you dont take someone just to take a QB. If we did that we would have Ponder at QB right now If you #1 or #2 scenario at QB are gone then you move on and take best player available.

by kevinjames73 on Jan 23, 2012 6:49 PM EST reply actions

Sorry

Meant Gabbert not Ponder Just got done reading the other retards thread saying we should try and get Ponder.

by kevinjames73 on Jan 23, 2012 6:50 PM EST up reply actions

we need a quaterback

Can we at least agree on that? Not just one guy either we need a few guys to come to camp and compete give me another option for our qb situation that’s not the same thing we read everyday on this site its easy to critisize but tell me something new I haven’t read I admit I didn’t like the ponder post as I viewed that as much more unlikely than this one but at least it was something different I agree with not getting a vet to be a savior but give me something new that I don’t read every other day on HH

by taylor21 on Jan 23, 2012 7:06 PM EST via mobile reply actions

If the right guy isnt there

You dont get someone just for the sake of getting someone. And really your thread is no better than the Ponder one. Both idiotic with absolutely no chance of happening. And not even on that I wold expect Shanny or anyone on his staff to even consider. Yes I am say neither is something Shanny will even think about Period. Give it up. You dont take a QB just because you need one. Thats how you end up with jemarcus Russell. If a good one isnt there dont waste the time and a pick on him.

by kevinjames73 on Jan 23, 2012 7:27 PM EST reply actions

your opinion is yours

If you don’t like what I wrote that’s fine you are trying to make it. Seem like I am arguing to get any quaterback just to get one that’s not what I am saying at all I’m sorry if I offended you by writing something other than the same story you read everyday its just a thought . You have still yet to give me a option for qb other than the ones stated daily on ths site that’s all I was attempting to do even if its unrealistic. I don’t want this to happen I WANT RG3 but who doesnt

by taylor21 on Jan 23, 2012 8:07 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Jeff Bernard

in regards to that last question.

by The Flyest Irishman on Jan 24, 2012 3:46 AM EST up reply actions

I have given you options.

I am just not going to give you some crock pot option that will never ever ever happen. I have said draft RG3 or best player available. How is that not an option? However I am done with you. Yo are not willing to listen to reason and just expect people to waste their time coming up with “option”. How bout this. Shanny drafted Cutler. Maybe he will trade for him. Good enough for you? Hey Hasselbeck played OK and Locker is ready. How bout there? Need more dumb ideas?

by kevinjames73 on Jan 23, 2012 8:18 PM EST reply actions

Kevinjames - you bring a kind of nastiness to HH

that has not been seen for awhile. It is not necessary or particularly welcome.

by Donnio1234 on Jan 23, 2012 11:30 PM EST reply actions

If you are going to do that you might as well sign...

Dennis Dixon, the Pittsburgh Steeler. I would sign him in a second. When he has played he has been good but, the downside is that this is his 2nd consecutive year ending on IR. But Steelers see something in him to keep bringing him back even with the injury woes. Pretty decent passer in the pocket and has some wheels. He put Nike U on the map when he was at Oregon to bad again with the injuries that he couldnt finish out his senior year because he was a strong heisman candidate.

by xxrdotxx on Jan 24, 2012 11:06 PM EST reply actions

Outside the box

I’m glad someone is thinking outside the box. It would also come at a cheap price, but don’t think Shanahan will trade for him considering he could’ve attempted to draft him last year.
