I have already perused PFF, and I can tell you...
the highest rated OG was Evan Mathis, Philadelphia, 6-5 305lbs., rated over 34, but age 30.
Carl Nicks rated over 28 and Chris Myers rated over 29.
Sadly, Grubbs rated just over 7.
Nicks and Myers are the clear choice…
remember part of Grubbs' low rating is due to him missing 6 games this year (which can help lower his contract demands)
Nicks is def. better, but Grubbs is not a bad fall back choice at all.

not at all...
some may say he would be a better fit with the ZBS, since he doesn’t carry as much weight. And, he would be an upgrade at LG, while Licht can be brought back as depth.
The best fits for ZBS maybe college OTs from schools that run that system more than power blocking. The
Raven mix both approach with ZBS more on outside stretches.

Evan Mathis has had good PFF ratings for several seasons. I did not include him or Chris Myers for age reasons.
IMO it would be good to get three OL from this list to build depth for when injuries occur. They do not need to be the best OL available. Rookies can be drafted that are not as expensive, but it often takes several seasons for them to be effective. Teams have already invested in these players from 3 to 5 seasons. They have shown that they will not be busts.

God No
I hopw we never see him again in a Redskin uniform. He was a revolving door for opposing team’s defenses.

The Redskins can upgrade their starters and back ups in free agency. About one OL per draft would give
a constant upgrade or maintenance. The replacement of a center in the draft in 2012 would complement the free agency upgrades.
There seems to be some consensus that some OL such as Jammal Brown, Erik Cook, and Sean Locklear should be replaced.
Kory Lichtensteiger showed improvement in 2011 before his injury but the concern is whether he will regain his form. Will Montgomery and Tyler Polumbus are backup players that could be replaced.
Both Maurice Hurt and Willie Smith showed promise for rookies but should start up 2012 as backups. Nevin McCaskill has not ever seen the field for the Redskins – hence unknown.
Trent Williams and Chris Chester are solid players. TW has not played to his draft position.
Through the draft
I would like to see us sign at least one free agent offensive lineman; either Myers, Grubbs or Nicks, possibly two if we can afford it and then draft one or two to start. Grubbs on the left, either DeCastro or Nicks on the right, Myers at center or a draft pick (Molk, Brewster, Johnson or Konz).
Chilo Rachal
I know he was picked from USC somewhere between the 2nd and 4th round. Any idea how well he would fit into our system? We could probably get him at a fairly cheap price.
Rachal had been the starter for the 49ers for several years, but only started 3 games in 2011 and played in
all 16 regular season games. Of RGs in 2009 Rachal rated #17. Chilo Rachal (49ers) (09,15 starts), 2008 draft 9th OL selected, 2009 Adj OVR 101. The depth chart shows Rachal as the only right guard – http://www.nfl.com/teams/sanfrancisco49ers/depthchart?team=SF. Adam Snyder has also played RG and RT, but allowed too many sacks at RT.
Talent Evaluation Factors for Offensive Linemen (OL)? – http://home.comcast.net/~fwroy/version%202%20NFL%20OL%20talent.html
What about Jared Gaither...
at LT, moving TW to RT?
No one seemed to want to touch him after Bmore let him go, there were concerns about his health, Chargers only sign him due to an injury, and he played pretty well. What about a new left side, with Gaither / Nicks?
Free agent OL and zone blocking experience
NFL teams using zone blocking schemes
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zone_blocking
Some teams base their entire offense on it, including the NFL’s Washington Redskins, Indianapolis Colts, Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans, Seattle Seahawks, and Green Bay Packers (New York Jets). All of the following players
are unrestricted free agents in the 2012 season from ZBS teams. The older ZBS centers with the best ratings would be good for a few seasons. Both guards and centers are positions of need for starters and depth in the OL. Their ZBS experience would be a benefit if replacing less experienced players on the 2011 roster or rookies. Using free agents would also permit the drafting of more skilled position players.
First Name Last Name Pos. Years ’11 Tm Rating Snaps Wgt Age

Geoff Hangartner G 7 CAR 102 1072 301 29
Scott Wells C 8 GB 136 1055 300 31

Jeremy Zuttah G 4 TB 98 820 300 27
Will Montgomery C 6 WAS 87 1103 310 28
A few of these players did not have that much activity in 2011 as reflected by the number of snaps. Montgomery had a lower rating than most of the C/Gs.
The ratings are the PFF overall ratings 2x plus 100.
Kevin’s post 1/12/11 – http://www.hogshaven.com/2011/1/12/1930446/detailed-look-at-2011-ufa-zone-blocking-offensive-linemen. “Mike Pollak – 25 years old – 2nd round pick. He has played Right Guard, but he was a First-Team All-Pac 10 Center at Arizona State.” Pollak has played guard and center for the Colts. The Colts are one of the NFL’s ZBS teams.
