Jason La Canforna was the Redskins trading up to draft Robert Griffin III in his latest mock draft. We select 2 overall, while the Rams take Richardson at 6.

Please?

RG3 or bust

Get the deal done. I think the Skins packaged deal should go something like this:

2012 (1st RD, 6 overall), 3RD RD, 4TH RD, and Evan Royster (good backup to SJAX)
2013 3RD RD

Ok

A) That won’t be enough draft picks to outbid other teams. Going to take more.
2) Even in that instance, you’re sacrificing a rookie who WILL be a starter, two players who have a chance, and a quality backup. If that weren’t enough, you’re sending one of the young talents on this team away.
D) All that for a guy who has no line to protect him and precious few weapons on offense (one of which you just got rid of), and you expect him to learn what, exactly? How to run for his life, develop bad mechanics and ruin his career? David Carr says hello.

I’m sorry for the confrontational tone here, but I’ve become absolutely convinced that trading up is the Vinny thing to do, it’s the WRONG move, and will cripple this franchise for years. I don’t care if RG3 goes on to become the best QB in the history of the league somewhere else, he won’t do it in DC if we do things this way.

What?!?!

‘I don’t care if RG3 goes on to become the best QB in the history of the league somewhere else, he won’t do it in DC if we do things this way.’

That might be the dumbest thing I have EVER heard anybody write on the Internet, EVER!! We all had to read it and now are each a little less intelligent for even trying to process it…

You’d rather suffer through another season like this one rather than trade up, so we don’t lose a couple of picks that the Shanny’s will waste on a back-up center and a few special teams guys?!?!

I’ll take RG3… an almost sure hit on the field and a for sure face and identity for the franchise… The Redskins have play makers or they would not have beaten the NFC Super Bowl representative twide this year. What they don’t have (and haven’t for a long time) is a leader and a ’face" to identify this team.

Everyone made a big deal when Jerry Richardson suggested Newton not get pierced and tatooed last pre-season, and that was WAY before anyone ever saw Cam on the field. It was because he (Richardson) knew the value of a “face” for his team.

The Redskins badly need an “identifier” with the public, with the media, and the fans.

Don’t be fooled – P.R. is as much a part of a team as the product they put on the grid iron. RG3 would be a HECK of a figurehead – and most likely one who will perform on the field!!

Those draft picks would net us more than a back up center and a special teams player...

The old days brought us little value with draft picks. The new way gets us players like Kerrigan, Hankerson and Helu, who could be key performers for years and were brought in with a 1st, 3rd and 4th round pick. Thats a little better than a back up center and special teams guys, as you put it. Also next years 3rd round could be a top quality lineman or linebacker, never have too many of those guys. Id rather grab one of the guys coming out next year.

Desperate for a qb

I like the confrontational tone and you make valid points I however would like to make an arguement with your thoughts above (marked my points with the same naming convention as yours)….

A) You’re probably right we might have to give up more to move up…but sometimes you have to give up something to get something in return. If it was free to move up everybody would be doing it.
2) Royster was only a 6th RD pick for us and Shanny can turn any back into a quality back in our system and we have Helu who is the more complete and explosive back. Plus Shanny can always trade down other picks remaining to get some picks back similar to what he did last year. I believe we traded back 4 times last year.
D) RG3 has a unique skill set and believe he’ll put a lot of pressure on the defense with the fear he can and will beat with his arm and his legs. A dimension the Skins have never had. With that skill set our QB is no longer a sitting duck in the pocket which should make a line better. Royster is replaceable and the reason I included him was he fits the Rams/Fischer playing style.

If we don’t address the QB position we’re going to continue this talk year after year how are we going to get a QB for the future. We’re within a ear shot of landing a stud QB prospect but would you rather roll the dice on journeymen QB’s or second RD quarterbacks who will all take time to develop or have holes in there game?

Yes, I would rather.

Trading up is going to gut our drafts for two years. One player isn’t worth that with the shape we’re in.

dont think it will gut our drafts

we can offer 2 picks in the top 38 in this draft. and throw in a 2nd or 3rd round pick next year. i think this year wilbe one of our best chances to trade up.

The shape we are in? Really?

Qualify that please. Tell me how 3 (4 max) picks are gutting the next two years of drafts? You would rather roll the dice on a journeyman QB? Have you not watched the team over the past 20 years? We have been the definition of journeyman/mediocre/horrible QB’s. Not every top 10 QB is Heath Schuler.

WE NEED A QB

So what do we do wait til we pick at 15 and trade up toget a decent QB and then give a crap load of picks away to get our QB . Iagree with Deuce2one on this one , we are this close to being a great team and RG3 will be our franchise QB for a long time and yes he is that dam good . He is worth his weight in gold , id rather give up a few extra drafts now than give a boat load later . Also 2nd round picks in QB fail more times than they are good . In the last 20 years we have had over 23 QBs lets get our QB now and stop this QB merry go round for once , see this is why our team SUCKS its because every time we turn aroundwe have a different QB playing . So why not stop this QB merry go round and pick a guy and stick with him . When you draft a defensive guy you select the best guy you can right ? SO WHY NOT select a good QB in the same mind set huh ?n my opinion RG3 is way better than ANDREW LUCK BY FAR and if you think im wrong look at the stats and compare . See also luck had a better team than RG3 did and his stats are way better so go figure that one out.

Raising Their Game

I admit I am nowhere near as informed or as knowledgeable as ya’ll, so I will just ask a few questions. If we make a deal to trade up to get a guy “like” RGIII, admiting we lose a decent player or two out of our ever increasing corral of young talent or draft positions, is it possible that a man with the skills RGIII has, can raise the level of play of all those around him? If there is discontent or a lazy player-on the offense at least, is it possible that he makes such an impact that it becomes contagious and the whole offense jumps on board and takes pride in being on the field, believing in their hearts they may finally climb up to at least a winning season in 2012? Is there another quarterback on a similar team who you think has done that in recent years? My memory just isn’t good enough to recall these days. I know last year over and over we all witnessed receivers getting open deep only to have the ball woefully underthrown. That has to wear on players minds. Thanks Fellow Fans!

Risk Vs. Reward

In business and life, you must take risks to reap rewards. I am not going to sit around another year and watch a mediocre QB lead my beloved Redskins. This is the year we need to take a calculated risk and go after a once-in-a-lifetime talent. Not only does RGIII have a ‘next generation’ skillset, he will revive the fanbase. No one will be able to tell me you would rather have a DB or Reiff instead of RGIII. I’m not buying that and neither should anyone else. We were a QB away from going at least 8-8 last year. With the ‘holes’ in our roster, we beat the NFL champions twice last year. Could you imagine the signal caller in this town is a legitimate threat and not a joke? Someone who can run and throw the ball? If we pass a franchise QB by this year, you can kiss the Shanaplan goodbye mark my words. (and no Tannehill is NOT a Franchise QB)

Secondly, look at the late draft picks that produced big time for us last year. Although I’m not a huge Shanahan supporter, he knows how to get value out of the late round draft picks. Helu, Royster, Neild, Hurt….enough said. We can sure up the BIGGEST need on this team for 10+ years and still have the ammo to get quality picks in the later rounds. We still have a second round pick that hasn’t played from last year.

Lastly, lets not forget about the man with the deep pockets in the ivory tower. Free Agency is going to be the perfect opportunity to sure up holes on our offensive line and receiving corps. Now all we need is a franchise QB to push us over the top. RGIII or Bust…
