Rebuilding the Hogs (Kinda)
I have seen a lot of good posts lately on trying to predict what the Skins will do in the upcoming draft. I decided instead of trying to predict the future I would just have a fun HYPOTHETICAL on what they could (but WONT) do in April. Im not advocating we should do this and its extremely early to slot draft prospects, so these players may fluctuate in terms of availability but lets assume things stay roughly the way they are now.
Suspend the disbelief and just bear with me for a minute.
Lets throw the ZBS out the window and ignore QB, were going to try and build the biggest power run line that we can in honor of the Hogs
Current Offensive Line:
-------LT----------------------------LG-----------------------C-----------------------RG--------------------------RT
Trent Williams-------Kory Lichtensteiger----------Monty-------------Chris Chester-----------Jammal Brown
----6'5 318---------------------6'3 295-----------------6'3 310-----------------6'3 305-------------------6'6 313
Our first move in the draft is to trade down in the First with a team between picks 16-23 for their 1st, 2nd, and something good in 2013 hopefully a 1st and change (2012/2013 5-7th round choice or two).
1st round pick- Peter Konz C Wisconsin 6'5 315
The best Center in the draft in my opinion, and decent value in the mid to mid late 1st
2nd round picks- Cordy Glenn G/OT Georgia 6'5 348 and Kelechi Osemele OT/G 6'6 347
Both are playing OT currently but could be moved inside in a power run scheme like we are using for this post
Late round rotational/depth choices
Phillip Blake C Baylor 6'3 320, Andrew Datko OT FSU 6'6 312 ( I think health issues will cause him to plummet)
Rokevious Watkins RT/G South Carolina 6'4 340, Chad Diehl, FB Clemson 6'2 265, Jeff Demps RB/KR Florida 5'7 185 (Darrell Greenesque 4.2 speed and gets Stabby off the team)
If these players fall to the late rounds of the draft or go undrafted I would give them a workout for our power run team. Demps gets 5 touches a game and returns kicks.
2012 Offensive Line
-------LT------------------------LG--------------------------C--------------------------RG--------------------------------RT
Trent Williams---------Cordy Glenn-------------Peter Konz----------Kelechi Osemele--------------Jammal Brown
----6'5 318------------------6'5 348--------------------6'5 315------------------6'6 347---------------------------6'6 313
Jammal Brown is the ugly part of this line but Willie Smith could beat him out for the start, but assuming he doesnt....
2013 NFL draft
Redskins select Marcus Lattimore and DJ Fluker OT Alabama 6'6 335 to play RT giving us a ground game that looks like
-------LT-------------------------LG----------------------C-----------------------RG----------------------------RT
Trent Williams----------Cordy Glenn---------Peter Konz--------Kelechi Osemele--------------DJ Fluker
-----6'5 318------------------6'5 348---------------6'5 315----------------6'6 347-----------------------6'6 335
---------------------RBs: Marcus Lattimore, Roy Helu, Evan Royster/Tim Hightower, Jeff Demps--------------------------- --------------------------------------------------FBs:Darrel Young, Chad Diehl------------------------------------------------------
I know that was long but had to get it off my mind let me know what you think in the comments

good idea, wrong type
I like the idea of rebuilding the o-line and using so many picks on that task. However, I think with Osemele and Glenn in particular, you’ve targeted the wrong type of linemen. While these prospects are no doubt maulers, I believe the key to the zone-blocking scheme is smaller, quicker linemen and that would be what Shanahan prefers.
I think Kevin Zeitler, Wisconsin and Lucas Nix, Pitt would be better fits for our scheme.
I like Konz out of Wisconsin, however, I believe we could use our 1st round pick on a player with more impact while still addressing our C position in later rounds. Ben Jones, Georgia and Brewster, Ohio St. are two prospects I like on day two. I would also look at Vlachos, Alabama if we could get him in the 7th although this would be more a depth pick than day 1 starter.
My bad
Now that makes sense. Completely skipped over that whole first part the first time i read it
I would love all those guys
alas, we don’t have the picks to get all of them and draft WR, QB, S, CB’s

i know it starts and ends in the trenches
but this is the deepest offensive line we have had in a while. i do think we need new interior lineman. but takle is pretty deep for us . i thought tyler polumbus and willie smith played well in place of trent and jamall. I am all for trading back if there is no qb or top wr on the board but as skins fans we also have to understand that not everyone you draft is gonna be a star.
Seriously?
I think this is the worst OL the Redskins have had in 30 years. Outside of Williams (who has his own set of problems), I dont think any of these guys would be starting on another team.

I should have said if Smokey goes back to his old ways the team now has players to fill in for him
Seantrel Henderson OT Miami 6’8 360 also should have made it into the post

worst in 30 years? really
the sack allowed is the lowest its been since 2008 my point was our tackles have played good against top pass rushers for the most part. i do think we need new guards and a better center
I wasnt writing this to call them out just to say lets draft a BIG ASS line for kicks
The Hogs were huge for their time, I think this “made up” line would huge for todays NFL

The Redskins OL did much better on sacks if you exclude the John Beck game with the Bills. Yet the QB
still took 104 hits. The Skins’ hits were only better than the Rams and Seahawks (108). (The Seahawks attempted to beef up their OL in 2011 while keeping a ZBS [it is also true that Alex Gibbs did not stay with the Seattle]).
In spite of what some fans think Montgomery ended up in the backfield to often and thus was the OL’s weak link. Whether or not the ZBS is retained, a stronger C is needed (not hypothetical). The pass protection blocking needs to improve. Unfortunately replacing 2 or 3 OL starters means continuity would need to get restored for run blocking or pass protection to improve.
