Fantasy Start 'Em/Sit 'Em: Week 1

It's back.... Last year we had a lot of fun helping each other out and giving advice on tough fantasy decisions on a weekly basis. I figured we should keep the thread going this year and hopefully everyone will win their league! Last year this was a target for some troll jack holes, so beware...

This week starts a little early with the Saints-Packers game tomorrow night, so don't forget to set your lineup.  I have my big draft w/ friends and family tonight but I do have some dilemmas in some other leagues:

In the HH league I have the awesome choice of either starting Chad Henne or Kerry Collins as my 2nd QB (Thanks Irene!). I'm leaning towards Henne but I wonder what everyone else thinks?

Another league I have to pick one of the following:

Kyle Orton vs Oakland
Eli Manning vs DC
Kevin Kolb vs. Carolina

* Yea right like I'd start Eli against the best team in the NFL

Please everyone feel free to post your fantasy questions for week one on this thread

I'd go with Collins...

then I’d drop Henne and pick up Vince Young. He’s a head case, but when Vick goes down, you’ll have a top 10 QB.

by ptowny on Sep 7, 2011 9:34 AM EDT reply actions

The other league, I'd go Kolb...

Carolina’s D still isn’t ready, and I think Cam is going to be a turnover machine the first couple of weeks.

by ptowny on Sep 7, 2011 9:35 AM EDT reply actions

I'm thinking Kolb too

Especially with AZ’s RB troubles, I expect a lot of dump passes to Stephens-Howling. Orton was just a fantasy monster for me last year (until he was benched) and Oakland’s secondary is pretty terrible.

I'd go with Collins and Orton

You know Collins will be going deep with that pretty long ball of his hitting Garcon for a couple of TD’s. Plus i heard he will be on the next just for men commercial Orton will make it rain on Oakland for 350+ yards…put it in the book!

by pwhit44 on Sep 7, 2011 9:50 AM EDT up reply actions

Orton lost Josh McDaniels...

and John Fox typically likes to be a run first team….of course, Moreno and McGahee are going to have to step it up a bit for that happen.

by ptowny on Sep 7, 2011 10:43 AM EDT up reply actions

I'd definitely go with Kolb and probably Collins.

Thanks to being in a 20 team league (bad enough to begin with) and missing my draft I ended up with Garrard and no other QBs on my roster in one last week, so whatever your QB situation it could always be worse!

Yea that's not ideal...

My question...

Matt Ryan or Big Ben for this week?

by millatyme on Sep 7, 2011 11:17 AM EDT reply actions

honestly thats why im debating it

Big Ben usually has a good history against Baltimore. But I’m not sure what to expect with the Falcons….Will they throw a lot with their new receiver? I’m edging Big Ben atm, but want more opinions :)

by millatyme on Sep 7, 2011 11:26 AM EDT up reply actions

Matt Ryan is playing AT Chicago. Big Ben against the Ravens.

Wait for the last minute and if the weather is nice in Chicago I MAY start Ryan.
Big Ben against the Ravens might force him to throw alot more.
Tough one but I will go with Big Ben no matter what.

by jmpalomo on Sep 7, 2011 1:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Def a tough one, I don't think BLTs defense is as good as advertised this year.

I’d give a slight nod to Big Ben, but it’s extremely close. At least its a better dilemma than Henner/Collins haha

Ryan

their defense is knocked over by a mild breeze, they’ll be behind and therefore passing a lot.

I have Addai and Ingram sitting on my bench on my HH league, they are two guys that are perplexing.

Right now I’m planning on starting Tolbert and Ryan Grant, but I’m not totally sold. I’m not big on Addai but their situation is so strange now.

O it's beyond terrible, Hurrican Irene was not a fan of fantasy football.

I got no QBs in the auto-draft and it’s a two QB league. I had to grossly overpay (Shonn Green) just to get a QB (Flacco). And the here is the rest of the gem of a team:

QB: Flacco, Collins, Henne
RB: Arian Foster, Ryan Grant, Mike Tolbert, Addai, Mark Ingram, Ronnie Brown, Daniel Thomas, Deji Karim (traded for Jennings before he went on IR, AWESOME)
WR: Nicks, S. Johnson, Collie
TE: Cook

My only goal is to beat Ken in the standings at this point, haha

I'm not sure about Tolbert

Matthews will get most of the carrys I would think (until he goes down injured again). I would probably go with Ingram as I don’t trust the Colts offense to do much of anything if Manning doesn’t play.

by PJ_21 on Sep 7, 2011 11:46 AM EDT up reply actions

Addai Starting WITHOUT Peyton Manning

I would go with Mark Ingram. Star potential from week 1.
Joseph Addai to play for the first time with 8 men in the box.
Stay away from anything Baltimore Colts (sorry Indianapolis Colts).

by jmpalomo on Sep 7, 2011 1:43 PM EDT up reply actions

It's not Addai or Ingram

Sorry. We'll Addai will be no good until Peyton comes back.

Ryan Grant has James Starks breathing down his neck, BUT he is the Starter right now so I would have him start.
You gotta start Mark Ingram.

by jmpalomo on Sep 7, 2011 1:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Yea that's how I feel about Tolbert.

Starting Ingram Week 1 just scares me b/c I haven’t seen how he operates. So it’s pick two I guess: Tolbert, Grant, Ingram?

At this point in the year I think it’s safer to go with the vets.

Grant and Starks are splitting carries

Ingram should get 15+ touches and is the goal line back. He scored 3 times with first team O in preseason.

How about sitting Laron!?

Dammit, this is more than a little disappointing. Maybe Reed will be better with O.J. back there. Hope so.

I'd go with Britt

Might play Bradshaw and hope if jinxes him!

by PJ_21 on Sep 7, 2011 2:09 PM EDT up reply actions

hey asshole

I’m starting Bradshaw this week. I need him to do well in a losing effort.

by TheDeepBall on Sep 7, 2011 2:20 PM EDT up reply actions

well obviously that would be nice

but ill settle for 0 points from him if it means we get a W.

by PJ_21 on Sep 7, 2011 2:24 PM EDT up reply actions

lol

if I get 0 points from him (meaning he doesn’t even get any touches, since it’s .25 per carry and 1 ppr) I will throw a brick through my wall.

Is it too much to ask for a 20/85/1 stat line from him?

by TheDeepBall on Sep 7, 2011 2:37 PM EDT up reply actions

It is if that TD is the winning one!

but id be happy if he put up some good numbers and still lost.

by PJ_21 on Sep 7, 2011 2:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Collins has the weapons, and Henne is playing San Diego

I would give the nod to Henne because of Collins being broken in, and though Wade Phillips is going to blitz the hell outta him, it is still Houston’s secondary. Even with Jonathan Joseph.
I say Collins.

Even with Eli on the board, I’d take Kolb with his NFC West competition.

by Dammit Cerrato... on Sep 7, 2011 2:00 PM EDT reply actions

Think Arian Foster will play?

I hope he can make it through the whole game. I took him 2nd overall before his hammy injury, stupid early drafts.

by kindr on Sep 7, 2011 2:00 PM EDT reply actions

I can't ask questions this week...

The drop off from my starters to bench guys in both of my leagues is embarrassing. I pray no one gets hurt…
10 person+ leagues just whore you in the later rounds.

by Dammit Cerrato... on Sep 7, 2011 2:05 PM EDT reply actions

Fuck second QBs.

I’m starting 4 RBs in the HH league (Thanks for picking QBs in the first 2 rounds by the way guys, you practically handed me the best PPR RBs in the league).

in your other league, start Kyle Orton vs. Oakland, they gave up the 4th most points to QBs last season and now they’ve lost Nnamdi.

lol you guys are so boned

I should get about 100 points a game from my 4 RBs alone, based on 2010 averages (1500 total yards/season, 4 catches/game, 15 carries/game, 8.25 TDs/season)

Plus my TE caught 71 passes last season and my WRs (Moss and Marshall) are both 90/1000/6 receivers.

Is it too soon to declare victory?

Fantasy Points Lock of the Week: Houston against Peyton Less Colts

A much improved Wade Phillips led Defense against a sorry quarterback team with a 90 year old running back.
They have Wide Receivers but no one to throw them the ball.
Lock it in!
The Colts are a 8.5 points underdog to a team that finished last in their division.
That’s all you need to know about the Colts Offense Peyton Less.

by jmpalomo on Sep 7, 2011 3:34 PM EDT reply actions

My starters are mccoy and bradshaw at RB...

Andre and stevie johnson and vincent jackson at WR… (Its an 8 team league)

I have a R/W/T flex spot to fill. my bench is tolbert, benson, and beanie, but i also have maclin and manningham (prob wont play them since I’m already starting their teams rb’s).

Who should I start in the flex spot?

by brobot on Sep 7, 2011 3:40 PM EDT reply actions

Go with a Running Back. Benson or Beannie Wells.

Wells at Home against Carolina sounds pretty good to me.

by jmpalomo on Sep 7, 2011 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Had Beanie in there, but just wanted another opinion.

He will likely have a couple of chances to get into the end zone at home vs the Panthers.

Thanks for the tip.

Mason

not sure how Burress will do in his first action in 2 (or is it 3?) years, might want to hold off until you see how they use him.

Flex start question

Reggie wayne vs Houston or Cedric Benson vs browns

also different league

Rashad Mendenhall vs b-more or Hightower vs a beat up Giants def

by skinsfan28 on Sep 8, 2011 10:30 AM EDT reply actions

yeah i was leaning towards hightower, benson had a great game against the browns last year

but i guess wayne will be the reliable target for collins and will probably break 100 in the 4th quarter during garbage time…

by skinsfan28 on Sep 8, 2011 11:01 AM EDT up reply actions

browns have been stout against the run as of late

and they should be able to stack the box against the bengals

by skinsfan28 on Sep 8, 2011 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions

I was leaning that way too especially cause we do weekly pay outs for the highest point scoring team

I got stafford and Calvin J. which could make or break me in terms of the weekly winner

by skinsfan28 on Sep 8, 2011 11:05 AM EDT up reply actions

check out my starters, it's a 10 team league

QB – Stafford - Back up Schaub
RB1 – Rice
RB2 – Best
WR1 – Nicks
WR2 – M. Williams TB
WR3 – Calvin Johnson
FLEX – R. Wayne/Benson
TE – Owen Daniels
DEF – Det/Wash
IDP – P. Willis

I think i’m poised for a championship run especially when peyton gets back.

I literally think I drafted with some 6th graders

these were the guys around for me to take:
QB – Philip Rivers
RB – Arian Foster
RB – Tim Hightower – taking a flier, I know
WR – Roddy White
WR – Miles Austin
TE – Jason Witten
RB/WR – Marques Colston

Foster, Rivers, and White were my first three picks. I was shocked and I think I myself am poised for a championship.

by Dammit Cerrato... on Sep 8, 2011 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Other team:

QB – Aaron Rodgers
RB – Michael Turner
RB – Ahmad Bradshaw
WR – Mike Wallace
WR – Mike Williams (TB)
TE – Jason Witten
RB/WR – Tim Hightower

In a MTD league

I have Peterson, Austin, Colston, Wayne, Witten, Bradford, and took a couple fliers on Helu and Starks. That’s in a 16-team league. If Bradford can learn how to throw it in the end zone, I think I’ll do all right.

Started Starks over Helu last night.

That Starks move paid off

I think Bradford’s going to develop into a solid fantasy guy. Maybe not like a Rodgers or Rivers or Brees, but like Matt Ryan quality.

I’m getting scurred about Foster and Miles Austin..

by Dammit Cerrato... on Sep 9, 2011 12:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Same here.

Although the Foster League is my secondary one. The MTD team is the serious one, and after Colston’s average performance and Wayne losing his QB, I needed Austin to come up big. The receivers and TEs (+Peterson) are the strength of my team.

Bradford has Josh McDaniels now

and is a better QB than Kyle Orton ever was, with about equal receivers as in Denver I think. He’s going to have a monster season. Think 3800 yards and 25 TDs.

by TheDeepBall on Sep 9, 2011 2:28 PM EDT up reply actions

I'd be fine with that.

Collins or McCown at QB?

possibly the worst QB pair ever assembled in FF!

by PJ_21 on Sep 8, 2011 11:58 AM EDT reply actions

If that's your 2 QB's then I hope you have Foster, Turner and Charles as your running backs

That is about the worst choices you can have.
I don’t know how you can pick the guy that just came out of retirement.
Take McCown

by jmpalomo on Sep 9, 2011 2:53 PM EDT up reply actions

lol

he has foster but not Turner or Charles. I’m the only guy who’s really stacked at RB.

by TheDeepBall on Sep 9, 2011 3:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Ehem... I went RB focused too...
I’m the only guy who’s really stacked at RB.

I have Ray Rice, Maurice Jones Drew, and Felix Jones in the starting lineup… I’d take that over your Jamaal Charles, LeSean McCoy, Ahmad Bradshaw, and Knowshon Moreno ANYDAY…

by preppiejack on Sep 9, 2011 3:36 PM EDT up reply actions

hahahaha

Charles McCoy and Bradshaw trump RR MJD & Felix hands down. Moreno may be good too if Fox decides to use him as the primary

by skinsfan28 on Sep 9, 2011 3:58 PM EDT up reply actions

I'll admit Rice may do better than Charles

but only by a bit, and that’s if they don’t give more touches to Charles this season like they’re saying they will.

Prep, you’ll be lucky if MJD and Felix score as much as McCoy alone :P

by TheDeepBall on Sep 9, 2011 4:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Bradshaw is trash this year.

The Giants offense will sputter. McCoy will lose touches to all the other playmakers on offense (Vick, Jackson and RB’s Ronnie Brown and Jerome Harrison). MJD will get the ball a ton more since Garrard is gone since the new kid is still learning. Book it.

Rice > Charles (slightly)
MJD = McCoy
Felix >>> Bradshaw
