Can Grossman be a 16 week starter for this team?

A lot of people expect to see Beck at some point this season, but coming from Houston, we know Kyle loves Rex and his knowledge of the playbook. Can Rex be that next stop-gap guy that Jake Plummer was at one time for Shanahan? We all know he's had injury issues in the past as well.
Is it possible that Grossman pulls a 2006 and starts all 16 regular season games for us? Rex_grossman_matrix_medium

If our running game is working....

Rex will be a fine starter all year long.

yes he could if......

i would love to see him lose a lil weight and be able to scramble more. that weight slows down your quickness. and also make better decisions with handling the ball. if he can do that, then he should be ok.

He was never a mobile QB

heavy or thin

IF Rex is a season long starter

get ready for a 4-12 season.

For the life of me I can’t understand why the staff would not give Beck a shot early. They know what they have with Rex, and every team in the NFL knows how to scheme against him. Beck is still an unknown in the NFL. He is much more mobile, and has a lot stronger arm. It would make some sense to at least give him a shot eaerly, and if he stinks, you at least know what you have coming in off the bench.

If we end up winning more than 6 games this year with Rex as our starter, it will only be because the defense kept us close, and either we had a return for a score, or an INT/fumble recovery for a score.

Rex IS NOT going to put this team on his shoulders, and win close games for us. PERIOD

What makes me sick

is that this offense is going to be so boring to watch with Rex at QB. He is so limited in what he can do. I don’t expect to see as many play action roll-outs, long bombs, or deep crosses. I expect we’ll see a lot of short to intermediate timing routes, a lot of comebacks, and pleanty of INT’s.

I see no up-side what-so-ever. He can’t run. He throws a poor deep ball. He is a turnover machine.

It’s just sad, really sad.

Guys

I’m really sorry for posting such negative comments about Grossman, and the future of the 2011 Redskins.

I have never(in all my nearly 30 years of being a fan), had such low expectations for our team. I can tell you this; for me, it all starts and ends with the QB position, and I am NOT a Rex Grossman fan AT ALL. Every season, I brag to my friend that the Skins will be good. I predict playoffs, and envision us coming back to relevence again, only to be dejected after we go on our usual 2-6 stretch at some point in the season, that essentially knocks us out of hope for the playoffs.

Well this year, I have come back down to reality. I have very limited expectations for this team, and it all centers around the QB play. I would have been more excited if Beck would have at least been given a chance, but since Grossman has been named starter, my attitude has drastically changed(for the worst mind you). I just see no hope with him back there, and even if he has a 3-game run, in which he looks like Joe Montana, we all know he’s coming back to earth sooner than later, and is going to look like the same ole’ Rex again.

Sorry for the negativity. It’s been a tough two years for me, having to watch us trade for the QB I hated most in the NFL, then watching us name the second QB I hate the most our season starter.

I apologize for the rant. I just needed to get this off my chest, and explain why I have been such a pessimist this offseason.

My football prayers are for the football gods to deliver us a savior at QB in 2012. God knows we need it!

Here's a hanky

I’ll provide the reasons for your angst.
Since Grossman came into the league in 2003 he’s had 40 TD, 40 INT’s and 24 fumbles. He played in 3 games his first season, 8 games his last in Chicago and none for the Texans, then 3 here last year. As we all know he had 4 INT’s and 4 fumbles in 3 games and went 1-2. If you project last years stats over a full 16 game season that would be 21 INT’s and 21 fumbles….not what will win you a majority of games. Turnovers do not usually turn out well. And for those who will retort that he had 8 touchdowns in those 3 games and that projects to 42 over 16 games I’d have to say that’s totally unrealistic since his best year was 23 TD’s (2006) and he’s only thrown 40 in 9 years. So maybe Beck the unknown will be a better option. We’ll see. Like Tiller…I ain’t holding my breath but I hope for the best.

Sexy grossy

Grossman has what it takes to steer this team.Combine that with RB hightower, torain, helu, and you have one heck of a attack, dont forget moss and coley, can break it anytime,GO SKINS!!!

2010 week 17 gives some reason for optimism with Rex. "The last time Tuck and the Giants faced Washington,

Grossman completed 26 of 44 passes for 336 yards, two touchdowns and an interception and was sacked twice." If the Skins can play as well on offense as their last game of the 2010 season, the Teams’ defense can go a long way to shutdown the Giants’ offense. KOOLAID!

Loved Kyle's comment...
Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, obviously, said QB Rex Grossman can change his habit of making big turnovers at bad times. Shanahan knows what Grossman’s rap was in the past: "There was a time when he kept both teams in the game."
