Updated List of Redskins 2011 Final Roster Cuts
Last year on the final cut deadline, Bruce Allen traded Justin Tryon to the Colts for a 7th round pick. I expect hope Bruce can wheel and deal for a pick this year too (Donte Stallworth perhaps?).
Last year the cuts included Ryan Torain, Logan Paulsen, and Will Montgomery, so let's not overreact when a guy doesn't make it.
We'll be updating the list as they come in but feel free to consider this an open thread:

I think he’ll be cut & brought back week 2 because anyone who’s on a roster starting week 1 get’s their salary guarrunteed. Think he’s still valuable on special teams.

Watching the game replay
On NFL Network. I have to admit, Stallworth is actually growing on me. Still think he’s cut though.
I liked the guy for awhile
had some horrible luck with the man slaughter charge and everything, came back and proved his heart was in the game by working his butt off. If we hadn’t traded for Gaffney I think he’d be on the team.

I always thought
He was a vast underachiever. Plenty of talent, but wouldn’t capitalize. He put up numbers here and theree, but you always knew he could do beet. Kinda like Michael Westbrook.
I agree for the first part of his career for sure
but starting with the patriots, he was used in screens a lot although it didn’t seem like his strong point. It continued on to baltimore and I was kind confused on why they continued to use him in that way. The guys still has good speed for his age and should be picked up by another team if/when he’s cut.

Up with the original post. It was there when i got here. You just skimmed it, cuz you wanted to be the news breaker. Not fooling us
Should
We need depth at corner and he seems more capable than some other guys from last year’s squad.
He never impressed me much
his reputation exceeded his talent. So much for Rob Ryan’s “three bullies.”
I liked him
At Oregon, but I haven’t really followed him much since then. Was more thinking he might be a useful body to throw on instead of someone like Worthington, but I’m no 34 expert
Bc he's a 7yr vet
He’s not subject to waivers. Would have to attempt to sign.

Ha ha
I doubt it. He was a late round pick. We say that all the time about our guys. Remember Derrius Thompson? Darnerian McCants?
He’ll, even if he did get snatched, who says he doesn’t elect to stay? He knows our system, and he knows some guys’ stay is tenuous.
He hasn't shown enough in the preseason
I doubt many teams are truly interested in him
by Nobetterthenbob on Sep 3, 2011 11:35 AM EDT up reply actions
His biggest assets
are his uncanny blocking ability (for a receiver) and the fact that he can play on just about every special teams unit. He’s almost like a WR with a linebacker’s body. I don’t know that he’s done enough offensively for another team to sign him to their 53 man roster.
Let me fix that for you
Cowboys will crumble
Giants will fall
All by the tiny hands of the great Niles Paul
The day that I was at training camp
there was this woman there who was screaming “NILES PAUL WIDE RECEIVER 84 NEBRASKA!” over and over. She really wanted him to sign her grocery list or something. She even started talking to the blogger guy about getting the PR people to get Paul to come over and talk to her. Then she admitted that she was a cowboy’s fan. It was very strange.
I would rather have niles then austin
just saying. And I’m a guy…and no I still wont have sex with you
You made me
Chuckle with that one.
I don’t begrudge you for liking Paul. I was the President and treasurer of the Marcus Mason fan club. But I still think he’s PS’d
You're not the one
who wrote a fanpost about the guy.
You might be hoarding it, but I’m the Paul Kool-Aid distributor.
Both Paul and Austil will make it.

I think Paul has a higher ceiling
but Austin looks ready to go this season. I think the real decision is between Austin and Stallworth, and I take Austin by a mile.
With Paul and Robinson, gone...
Does that mean Stallworth and BB make the team?
I think its silly that they gave that to
a premier free agent signing and a 4th round pick. I’d like to see Helu get it for obvious reasons, but I’d have to think that Wilson has first dibs at it.
Ok people
please don’t put names out there on original comments unless they are released. Could cause some people a heart attack.
I don't have available stress level
to deal with assumptions
That would be nice
but I’m trying to stay sober for the VT game.
Maurice Hurt cut
Perfect practice squad candidate. He’s not the best looking prospect, but he moves very well and plays with very good leverage. Wouldn’t surprise me if he develops into a better guard than Lichtensteiger.
Horton had such potential
I just wish he had lived up to his first season
I was hoping he could improve
his rookie year was impressive
Really just
The first half of it. Came back down to earth after the injury. Actually, I think he got complacent. Same with Blades.
Really only that one game with the two picks and fumble recovery
were that impressive. It was against the girls though, right?

If we cut him
he’d surely get picked up. He played LT in the preseason and looked damn good doing it. Its hard to get tackle prospects through to the PS.
Glad to hear this
Smith was one of the rookies I really want to keep. Now all I need is Hank, Paul, Austin, and Worthington to make it and I’ll be happy

We have so many screen options
Moss and Austin are good screen receivers, and Cooley and Davis are also good with TE screens. I’d rather not have Banks taking more hits than absolutely necessary.
not sure about that. lbs running full speed
could hurt worse then getting hit by a linemen on a screen play. the main reason the new kick off rule was placed was because of all the players getting hurt on returns.
I cant wait for the eagles game
TE screens all day. And they can’t do anything to stop it with their no-safety, no-linebacker, over-aggressive defense. God i hate the eagles.

That's because he's already reached his potential
The idea is to have young guys who can step in when our old guys are gone, not to load up on old guys so we have another crisis like the one we’ve had the last 10 years.
See what you're saying, but it doesn't really apply here
Stallworth isn’t old, and they want to put the best receivers out there – guys that can get open and catch the ball. The future will take care of itself – there’s always going to be the draft, FA, trades. Moss, Gaffney, Armstrong, Stallworth, plus Austin and/or Hankerson – not bad – huge improvement over last year.
Stallworth made the tean acc to kelli johnson

Grantland joins the other national media
Their preview lumps teams into 4 categories: 1) Contenders, 2)Getting Better, 3) Getting Worse 4) No chance. Guess which one the Redskins are in.
http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/6918507/part-i
The Redskins are basically stuck in the same spot where the Orioles were at the beginning of the millennium. They have an owner who is comfortable spending and a fan base that expects to win, but they’re trapped in a division with other teams that are also comfortable doing that and smarter about where and how they spend their gold. The shorter schedule means that there’s more likely to be a random season in which the Redskins get lucky and make the playoffs, in much the same way that there are 16-game stretches where the Orioles have a better record than the Red Sox or Yankees, but they are eons behind the rest of the division and too proud to burn the whole thing down and start over again. Unless the Shanaclan can somehow recycle a franchise quarterback from the energy they used bad-mouthing McNabb on his way out, it’s going to be a long few years in Washington. At least the stadium has Ben’s Chili Bowl now.
Best-case scenario: Whoa, John Beck has secretly been a great NFL quarterback waiting for a chance these past few years! And who would have thought that Michael Vick, Eli Manning, and Tony Romo would have all been in that ATV right before it crashed?
Worst-case scenario: BE THE REDSKINS.

The rest of that article was actually pretty well written and in-depth.
But this paragraph “Of course, the Redskins then went and had a typical Daniel Snyder offseason. After clearing the decks by dumping their old, high-priced veterans and insulting them on the way out, they replaced them by overpaying new free agents. Instead of paying Albert Haynesworth, the Redskins now have the pleasure of giving former Giants tackle Barry Cofield and Cowboys backup end Stephen Bowen more money than they deserve. They devoted too much money to a defensive back, signing O.J. Atogwe away from the Rams as one of the few pre-lockout free agents to leave the market. They spent too much on one of their own, re-signing Santana Moss as he comes off a career year at 32. And then they finally traded Donovan McNabb and replaced him with god knows what.” was just silly. Spoke like somebody who didn’t really follow their offseason too closely.
This offseason is exactly opposite of what they have done in recent years. Article is trash but does a good job listing the most over-rated QBs in the league. Tony Romo was supposed to be the Messiah last year as the media all but handed the Lombardi trophy to the Cowboys at the start of the season. And we know how that turned out.

Torain seems like a good pass catcher, but his blocking skills are somewhat questionable. Helu struggled a lot with blitz pickups during training camp according to different sources, so I guess Hightower is the only viable option. If TH is injured, we’ll have some trouble.

He’ll have to improve his pass blocking skills to be that guy.
by brazilianbeast on Sep 3, 2011 1:48 PM EDT up reply actions
yes, maybe he is better than Torain in that regard, but could still be a liability against starting defenses.
“The running backs, particularly the rookies, must show they can handle a blitz. Roy Helu struggled mightily in a blitz pickup drill Tuesday — he kept dropping his head — while fellow rookie Evan Royster did not. It’s simple: If they don’t pick up the blitz, it will be tough to play. Tim Hightower will start at running back and does well in this area…”

It's all about me
I am humbled to announce that I got DirecTV and NFL Sunday Ticket solely to watch the Redskins every week.
Of course.
No self-respecting Redskins fan (since 1954) is without.
Know what else I have?
Meaning.
Meaning has returned to my life.
Just make sure that
you don’t plan on getting rid of DirecTV in the next 2 years or you’ll have to pay an early termination fee.
Why would I cancel?
Not only Sunday Ticket, but I can go to any bar / restaurant in the country and know what channel number to tell the bartender.
If you ever move somewhere you can't install a dish
Just saying. In my experience they don’t communicate that they have a 2 year contract and that it renews every time you move or have anything new installed.
We already do live somewhere where we're not allowed to install a dish
But we petitioned the HOA Board and won.
Plus DTV has so many sports-friendly features. For the four majors you get a bunch of extra channels to watch various twosomes, clusters of holes (like Amen Corner), the practice range, aerials of each hole on the course, etc.
Definitely

TE Fred Davis? He can be awesome... if allowed to play. When Cooley was hurt... he stepped up.
If he’s allowed to be #1 TE… he’ll show again!
Sorry... I know I'll be bashed... but Niles Paul looked better than Hankerson in Pre-Season

If they cut him… big mistake!
Bashed for what?
Miles Paul didn’t do a damn thing ipreseason, but that doesn’t meqn he didn’t look better than Hank. Hank looked perrty bad. Dent matter thigh, shank has more upside. Paul will be PS’d until Stalledworth gets hurt

that’s bad thinking. Paul looked pretty damn good for the time that he got.
Look girl
Just cuz you like the way he looks, doesn’t mean we hafta keep him around.
Seriously though, i like Paul. He’s a strong receiver, and i think hell be good. But he didn’t do anything to rally distinguish himself. Im hoping he doesn’t get picked up fromm the PS, and we call him up when Stalledworth goes down
Look dude
Actually I don’t find him that attractive and he’s so young. Fred Davis on the other hand…yum.
I think he’s very strong but didn’t get enough opportunity to show enough this preseason. The receiver position is super stacked but I think he’d be major in the future and don’t want to lose him.
Ha ha

Look dude
Im starting to like you. You can definitely stick around here.
As for Davis, you can have him. No, please, take him. Maybe he’ll be mor useful to you.

Getting told to take off weight and then put it on is a bad bad sign in my opinion. I’m not saying he wasn’t a good guy or didn’t try but that speaks to the fact that the coaches didn’t like something they were seeing at all. I doubt we try to get him back.
Where have been?
He got told to tke off weight to mov to OLB from DE. Then he got told to put on weight to move to DT from oLB. Then he got traded
Well if they truly didn't like what they were seeing
They would’ve just out right cut him/traded him in the beginning. Instead, they tried to find a way to keep him around and told him to lose/gain weight to move him to different positions.
Hey
That’s what i said. Where the eff have you been?? I been trying o find SOMEONE to agree wit me on here
I've been lurking around in the backgrounds secretly stalking everyone
And honestly, at first I had NO clue what you were saying in any of your comments so I wasn’t sure if I was agreeing with you or not.
Only because the previous regime has used a fairly high draft pick on him. If they hadn’t traded him this year I bet he would have been cut. You have to give it a year to try and get value from someone that a 2010 3rd rounder got used on even if it was the previous regime.
Not necessarily
Just like you said, it was the previous regime that used a fairly high draft pick on him. Shanahan didn’t have any ties to Jarmon once he came in. If Shanahan truly saw absolutely nothing from Jarmon he probably would have cut him in the beginning if he didn’t see any potential whatsoever and if he couldn’t get any trade value for him.
Shanny wanted to evaluate the roster the first year. He wasn’t going to cut a guy who cost a 2010 3rd rounder until he was sure there was no value. He still got rid of him plenty fast to come to the conclusion he didn’t think much of him for the Skins future.
I can agree with this
But essentially what I was arguing at first was the fact that Shanahan asking him to lose/gain weight wasn’t necessarily an indication that he didn’t like Jarmon as a player or didn’t think that he could be useful in some form.
I guess
They must not like Lorenzo Alexander either.
Jarmon was caught in a numbers game. He was hurt his rookie year, and hadn’t developed yet, and then they switched his position. To me, the fact thay they kept moving him around is because they WANTED to keep him, much like LoRax, and Sellers. Jerkins made him expendable. And Kerrigan
To me the fact that they kept moving him around was just trying to get some value from a guy that cost a 2010 3rd round pick. They then placed the highest priority on replacing that guy despite the recent high draft pick cost.
It wasn’t a numbers game on Jarmon. Shanny didn’t want him and has acted that way. Alexander hadn’t recently cost the Skins a high draft pick and worked his ass off special teams. There is a big difference.
It wasn't Zorn
He was a defensive end. Shanny wanted him to move to OLB, so he told him to drop some weight. Then, at the end of the year, he put him badk at DE, so this year they told him to add more weight.
Jarmon was a steal in the third round. Many people projected him as a first rpunder
Exactly right.
jarmon will be a good NFL player some day. I’m a big kentucky fan, and he wrecked shit in the SEC. He’s just been moved around far too much and hasn’t had a chance to get comfortable. Give him a year of continuity in the practice squad, and you’ll see how good he can be. Sign him up.
I'd certainly consider bringing Jeremy back
considering the loss of Jenkins. Unless they got another, better, DE. I’d like to see Philip Daniels come back, too. It’s possible that they didn’t get him already because they want to see who gets cut.
Just goes to prove that Vinny was HORRIBLE
..not that we needed any more proof. Have we rid ourselves of Vinny draft picks yet?

if the redskins were interested in his services, they would probably have to give him a raise, seeing as that is why he is requesting a trade, which is beyond greedy since he jut had his reworked a few years ago. Update on Austin
granthpaulsen Grant Paulsen
For those asking, WR Terrence Austin participated in today’s #Redskins practice and is still on the team.
He and others could be in limbo - since not cut yet - for a few hours
And still on the team pending trades. I.e., if they can trade somebody, Austin sticks, if not, he goes. A waiting game, playing it right down to the last second. Could be why the cuts are so slow in being finalized.
im trying to find out
sounds like a trade is coming, dont know who yet. Possibly a WR or Hicks…
Rotoworld says Hicks is reportedly being shopped
Probably back to Minnesota but I can only see us getting a 5th or 6th. Still not bad. Invest in the future

Interesting. They were switching to the 4-3 but asked him to play DT… more suited for end in that system. Doubt we pick him back up but seems like we got the good end on that trade. Time will tell.

I think he still has a place somewhere in this league but I’m pretty satisfied with our D-Line depth even without Jenkins

I give the #Redskins credit for releasing HIcks. did not play well. Thought they might keep just to have vet depth. still need backup G
Yeah
I mean we don’t have that much depth to be releasing a guy that started last year. I didn’t think he played that bad, but maybe I missed something
That's true.
but I think they’re looking for someone who can play now. Hurt isn’t ready, but later in the season hopefully he can fill in if needed
I like lamp, but I love sports.
I seem to remember
When they brought in Locklear didn’t they say something about he can play guard in an emergency? I could be wrong.

Did anyone else see
someone get around Locklear for a sack during the Ravens game? I think Locklear barely made it out of his stance before the defender was in the backfield.

Would be a great pickup b/c of Shanny
but he’s injured and injury prone

The list up top
Says Reggie Jones got cut twice. Talk about having a bad day. When the 2nd call came in, he probably answered it quick, thnkin they were gonna say “turn around”. They said “Nope, yer still cut”
Lonely already eventhough you just got back?
How was shopping?
Probably wheeling and dealing as we speak...
Looking at the waiver wire.
Or two?
who’s gonna want our WRs when there looks like there’s plenty available out there? you’re right though our positions of need definitely are G and DE, also ILB kinda
I like lamp, but I love sports.
Stallworth
Will be enticing to someone. Especially the way he played in preseason. Hell, at this point, he may be better than Chad Johnson. At least he’s playing better.n
I think Stallworth and AA are the most likely to be traded
but I just don’t think it will happen
I like lamp, but I love sports.
I like Devlin, too
But I haven’t heard anything positive about him since like October.
I like lamp, but I love sports.
Ok, just throwing this out ther
So don’t jump in my beans, but anyone think there’s a CHANCE we trade Hank?
Hear me out – we already have two projects, who are light years ahead of hm, in Austin and Paul. Stall worth is essentially the 4th rceiver we thought Hank would be. AND, if I’m not mistaken, i THINKhe was the last receiver they announced was staying. Maybe they were exploring a trade?
You can stop right there.
Anything we get from him will be less than the 3rd we spent and doesn’t even approach how much he could (and will) be worth down the road. He is the most gifted WR (raw talent wise) out of anyone we have. HE IS SHANNYS NEXT BRANDON MARSHALL!
I like lamp, but I love sports.
I think there's an absolute change Hank is traded
I don’t put anything past Bruce Allen at this point and if something is there to be had I think they’ll go for it
well, you're both wrong.
but I like your spunk.
don’t take that in the wrong way, in either context
I like lamp, but I love sports.
Well frankly we don't know who is right or wrong
at this point now do we? But thanks for your appreciation.
Yup, ALL of this is speculation.
But, barring a miracle trade, Hank’s not going anywhere. I do agree with you on pretty much anyone being expendable for the right price. Bruce will take advantage of the right opportunities.
I like lamp, but I love sports.
The Bryant cut
Surprised me the most. I liked Neild out of the draft, but I always figured him for a PS’er. Cofield HAS to stay healthy
More long-term upside to Nield
And I don’t think he’d make it to the PS.
Yeah, I thought he'd be on the PS too.
But Bryant is way older and Neild has more upside. Also seems to really have adapted to the culture of this team. Did you see him congratulate Markus White after the fumble recovery?
I like lamp, but I love sports.
Yeah, lost my buzz
Who the F>€K gets drunk, AND SOBER, before dark?
Anyway, ion trying to get back to the happy place.
Not so fast
Still misspelled Neild, but vast improvement. that grocery store trip must have sobered him up. Cheese is a tough thing to shop for
I like lamp, but I love sports.
4 more
Running backs Evan Royster and Shaun Draughn, WR Isaac Anderson and TE Derek Schouman have been released.
I'm pretty sure it's ok to curse.
Because if not, I’ve broken a shit ton of rules today.

No waaaaay
He’s undervalued as it is. No way we get what he’s worth.
I like lamp, but I love sports.
Donnie Avery
was waived by the Rams. Kind of surprised at that. Didn’t he have a really good season last year or the year before?
He was their (proven) version of Malcolm
Injury prone. This is why I don’t think anyone will trade for a WR. They can be found everywhere
I like lamp, but I love sports.
Ok, it's gettin
Way too SLOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW on here. I’ma find somethin else to do for a little while.
ccuts are done
Aren’t they? Skins cut nine yesterday and 18 today….so aren’t they done?
theres no such thing as stupid questions...only stupid people
by hailyeah on Sep 3, 2011 8:20 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
9 yesterday? You mean they're at 53 now?
Did somebody post all 27 cuts?
Is the cut deadline 6 PM PDT or EDT?
If EDT, why isn’t there a final list yet?
We have to do something about the CB position
If one of the 4 CBs we have goes down before Buchannon gets back we are royally screwed. I don’t see one of our back up safeties stepping up in 4 WR sets.
Nvm
i just noticed the 5th one on there. Disregard the previous statement.

Not saying we should, but...
Both Will Allen and Lito Shephard were released. They too old/washed up to take a look at?
Trade potential
Only one see 8 WRs as trade pool? I’d like to see. Ome depth at the OG position added.
Thanks for the Post article - sums things up
Seems like a lot of WRs and LBs. I wonder if they aren’t planning some trades, and can’t risk cutting certain guys (like Paul and White) because they will lose them, so they are in effect stashing them in the 53. It’s crazy that they don’t have a backup guard, and have only 4 DEs. They are lucky that for now Buchanan and Moore don’t count against them, but they will in 4 and 6 weeks.
The Official Cut List
WR Isaac Anderson
LB Horatio Blades
NT Anthony Bryant
T Selvish Capers
QB Kellen Clemens
TE Tony Curtis
RB Shaun Draughn
LB Thaddeus Gibson
QB Matt Gutierrez
G/T Artis Hicks
S Chris Horton
G Maurice Hurt
LB Edgar Jones
CB Reggie Jones
T Clint Oldenburg
C Donovan Raiola
WR Aldrick Robinson
RB Evan Royster
S Anderson Russell
TE Derek Schouman
S Davonte Shannon
DE Jeff Stehle
DE Doug Worthington
RB Keiland Williams
Royster
I hope the team can use the “concussion” from the last game to keep him on the squad. He has value and given Torain’s (aka glassman) ability to stay on the field depth is needed at RB. I like the fact Royster can catch passes out of the backfield and has shown he is durable in college. A nice fit for a third guy at RB, don’t see Torain filling this spot. Given his past, he will be out for the season after about the fourth week.
I would be
On the phone with Brandon Merriweather right away, and cut Moore loose as soon as he comes back.
No!
Unless the team thinks Laron will no longer be an effective player. We signed a safety in the offseason and we have Landry. We have other positions (OL) that need an upgrade and more depth. Unless the front offic thinks Laron won’t get on the field this year, no need for another starting safety.
?
That is the million dollar question. He was a beast last year and can do a lot in Haslett’s scheme. Is this a chronic injury or something that can be overcome? I don’t know that is what trainers and specialists are paid for. If the front office has any inkling it could be chronic, then they need to look for a legit replacement. We have depth at safety, but only Laron and Atogwe are true starters.
Exactly
We shall see, b/c Landry will be ‘very rusty’ whenever he returns to play, and right now he’s not in ‘game-ready shape’. Granted he works out and he’s physical presence, however if he on the sideline for ‘x’ amount of time, the FO need to start looking around.
I’m not trying to jump the gun, but this is business…
Landry - they say the achilles is OK, and now it's just a hamstring
From what Shanahan said, those can take varying time to heal, but aren’t chronic or career-threatening.
Achilles
I hope this is the case! When you see achilles issues it raises red flags! A guy like Laron needs his “wheels.” No disrepect meant, but I can’t take losing another safety. We should still have “21” out there beasting on guys like D-Jack. I really hope Laron can stay healthy.
they should pick up the saftey the pats just cut and move landry to linebacker
. we need more speed that can cover the rbs and TE or spy vick
Yes, they are really thin in both lines - no backup guard at all, and only two backup DEs (Golston and Scott).
They are getting Moore and Buchanan’s spots free now, and two will have to be cut when (and if) they come back. I still don’t see cutting Bryant for Neild, given the shortage at DE (Cofield has offered to play some DE, but isn’t likely to since it’s only he and Neild at NT).
The dude has literally missed 9 games
in his 5 season career. That’s 11% and 9% of that came on one injury. I know who you’re referring to, and he’s missed 75% of his career due to more than a few injuries. do you understand that concept yet? That 11% doesn’t equal 75%? Typically you have to be injured at least 40 or 50 percent of the time to be deemed a “glass man.”
First of all
I don’t really think we’d be able to land Meriweather. We’re not gonna pay him what other teams will, and he would want to be named the starter, full time.
Now, that said, you’ve kind of touched on the touchy subject that plays into my reasoning. We DO need insurance for Landry. He’s coming off a big injury, hasn’t hit the field since midway through LAST YEAR, and his contract is up. Now, I have a NICE, throwback Landry jersey. By no means do I want to lose him. But be a little openminded about it. Did anyone expect him to be out this long, possibly even missing the opener? What if it drags on past that? Or, what if he rushes back, only to hurt himself again? I know it’s “just a hamstring” now, but that’s probably a compensation injury. What if he’s not fully healthy this season? Then we have to decide how much we want to pay him, and is he gonna think it’s enough? Do you pay him as one of the top safeties (which he’ll probably want) when he’s never even made a Pro Bowl? I wouldn’t. But then you run the risk of losing him.
Meriweather, on the other hand, is the same age, HAS been to multiple Pro Bowls, and kno what it’s like to win. He’ll of an insurance policy.
Should we look at Avery from Stl?
Would fill a similar role as Stallworth but faster and younger. Thoughts?
HTTR!

Didn't Avery
knee get destroyed with the rams last year? I don’t think the skins want to take that much of a risk with him.
Sellers is on the squad?
I wish the youth movement would’ve went in effect in the TE/FB region…but hey, it is what it is….
Comparison
What are you basing your comparison on? The end of last year or the start of training camp. The loss of Jenkins hurt really bad, but this years squad is much deeper on the D-Line. We cut dead weight and added some legit guys via free agency. I don’t see anyway that you could claim our D-Line this year is worse than last years.

One Guy
Doesn’t make a D-Line and I think Nield has a lot of upside in the system Haslett runs. I still think our D-line this year is the biggest upgrade over last years team. I know we made a lot of changes, but the guys up front last year just didn’t get it done.
I still think we could have used bryant more than one more mediocre WR
With bryant, they could afford to add cofield to the DE rotation. And bryant played pretty well last year when he was in.
Fat Al
He took the bonus claiming he was going to play
Camp
I meant camp this year. I just thought it was blatantly obvious our D-line is much better this year. I know we have a NT this year, although some claimed he couldn’t play NT in a 3-4.
yea, I wasnt comparin to last season
just thought bryant could help out with depth in case of injury. but instead we decided to keep a lot of wr’s.
but i’m totally on board the shannyplan. like i’ve said in the past, i’m no coach
HTTR!
D-line - the starters are fine, but not much depth
I wonder if they are at all thinking of taking Jarmon back.
Agree
Decent player in a 4-3, likely a quality back-up. Just like Blades and McIntosh, that is why I can’t believe they brought Rocky back. I hope it was to keep him from going to a divison rival. Riley should be starting after Rocky gets burned on the first series of the year against the Giants. We can keep Rock on the bench in case of injury. We only gave him a one year deal, thankfully!
True
We do have depth at linebacker and I still think this years squad has more depth on the D-line. Also, we can use different formations other than base on D. I am more concerned about the O-Line and the secondary. If Landry stays healthy, my concerns about the secondary will subside.
im worrid about QB
this team looks to be a just miss playoff team.. and will end up with a bad pick in the draft. so its gonna cost us alot of picks to trade up in the draft or get a good FA QB next year. we are pretty much stuck at 8-8,9-7,10-6 :(
In about 4 yrs
b/c the Bengals have the 1st rights over him (due to his abrupt retirement, while under contract)
He hasn't actually filed for retirement yet
His contract is still valid for this season as of now

Palmer can report to the facilities today.....
to try to force his hand. He is on a retired/failed to report list. If he reports….he makes it so the Bengals HAVE to decide whether to pay his 10+million/year salary and put him somewhere….or they could decide to finally cut him and move on. It would be a major power move by Palmer…but people close to him are saying it’s not going to happen. They could also be covering for him so the team is caught off guard if he does show!

Practice Squad questions for ThrowItDown
Read thru your post of the PS CBA agreement but now have some more questions:
1. If we have a man on the PS and another team wants him, do we have any priority?
2. I’m sure this is immoral (and is done), but can a PS player’s agent get into this and say “we want more money to join you” and then whipsaw bids with other teams?
3. Similar to Number 2, but slightly different, can a PS player turn down another team’s offer and say “I don’t want to go there, I want to stay right where I am”?
