Cowboys OLine Goes from Bad to Worse with Dockery Out

Here is the updated news from Cowboys practice today:

  • Romo's puncture has been described as "small" and multiple sources have indicated it could clear up in a couple of days. [ESPN] (I'm not buying that)
  • Derrick Dockery has a sprained MCL and did not practice [Calvin Watkins]
  • Terrance Newman, Costa, Dez Bryant, Scandrick (ankle out 2 more weeks), and Miles Austin did not practice. Miles Austin is expected to miss at least 2 weeks.

With Dockery out, that means the guy he replaced, Bill Nagy, the Cowboys last pick in the 2011 draft, is back in at Guard. Via Rotoworld:

A seventh-round rookie, Nagy drew the start in Week 1 against the Jets and graded out as ProFootballFocus' worst run-blocking guard. (Nagy suffered a neck injury, which is why he was out last week).

Please let Romo play

But it really shouldn’t matter who’s behind that line.

Our defense has heard the dinner bell.

Time to feast!

Bowen's child coming home on Friday
Stephen Bowen is excited to play his old team Monday night, but he’s more excited about Friday, when his infant son will be released from the hospital. Bowen’s wife gave birth to extremely premature twins in June. One of the babies died, but the other — Stephen III, who weighed two pounds at birth — is up to 6 pounds, 5 ounces and apparently ready to go home. Brings real tears to my eyes just typing it. All the best to the Bowens, seriously.

I hope all the injuries on the cowboys side

doesnt lead to a let down in preparation and focus in this game. We cannot afford to think for one second that this game had shifted in our favor due to dallass’s recent string of injuries. I want this team pumped up and super prepared to play like were playing them at full strength! regardless of who’s out there the Skins in my opinion need to approach this game as it were a playoff game….win or go home. No mistakes, no mental lapses, no let downs resulting in blown coverage. Everyone needs to have their A game to provide the mental edge we need to continue to have success on Monday night. I hope ShannyX2 and the veteran leaders are getting everyone prepared to the fullest extent and I’m sure they are all well aware of what is on the line with this game on Monday night. On that note, a BIG HIP HIP HORRAAAY for the first skin to knock Romo’s rib out his side! HailSkins on MNF!

Would this result
the first skin to knock Romo’s rib out his side

in a naked woman forming on the field?

Actually, I expect the opposite. All of these injuries are like blood in the water for our defense.

Not against the Cowboys.

I would be more concerned about the Rams the following week. Much like the Ravens crushing the Steelers then letting down against the Titans. A division opponent will get our best effort then we tend to let down against the next team up.

Priorities

I never want us to let up against anyone, but I’ll take a division win over a win against the Rams…..especially a road win over Dallas

The Giants

Injury situation was probably worse, and that didn’t affect our preparation.

by CJHutch on Sep 22, 2011 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Amen. Dallas is still about a six point favorite and those gamblers know what they

are doing. They need the game more than we do. Romo is probably exaggerating the injury a bit – I have no doubt he will play and be good. The Skins cannot afford a letdown.
Speaking of hype, I read how Laron is all ready to go. That’s fine, but I hope he isn’t too excited. I will never forget the game against the Eagles, everybody was revved up, and the very first play Laron got beat for a long touchdown by Desean Jackson – totally took the air out of the Skins. Laron was always lousy at coverage, and probably still is. His value is close to the line. Anytime he has to cover somebody deep, we’re in trouble.

I'm looking for

a break out game for Orakpo this year. I’m sure he’ll give Doug Free hell, especially because they cannot afford to double team him w/ Kerrigan on the other side. With Austin out, Dez injured and Landry back… we SHOULD win. (emphasis on should… any given Sunday, boys!)

DEFENSE

I hope our defense goes to work. Would love a dominating defensive performance with a shutdown of the run and sacks all day en route to a shutout.

by StephanHart on Sep 22, 2011 3:18 PM EDT up reply actions

The football gods

are with the Skins. Romo might not even play. It will be the Skins starting defense against the Boys 2nd string offense. The 1st thing the D should do is take a personal foul spearing Bryant in thigh and make him play like that the rest of the game. Take the 15 yards. Then the front 7 should take turns glaring at Dallas’ QB, point at him and then slide a finger across their throats.

The only guy

I care about is Bryant. I think he’s the vest receiver in the division WHEN HE’S HEALTHY. (which is rare)

by CJHutch on Sep 22, 2011 4:24 PM EDT reply actions

I think he's still all potential at this point.

Orakpo time!

Monday night, at Dallas, this has to be his break out game. Breaking Tony Romo in half HULK HOGAN style would make him a house hold name.

Hard to say if Dockery being out makes the OL worse.

Probably a push in my opinion.

I don’t want to jinx anything, but if you look at the landscape of the NFC East after just two weeks there is reason to really be excited.

Romo’s rib injury isn’t an issue for week 3 of the season….it’ll be cleared up by about week 9….of the offseason. He’s going to be hurt all year and if he gets through every game it’ll be on shots and pills. The Cowboys also did nothing to address their o-line and 2.7ypc by their starting RB is beyond mediocre. Their secondary is probably the weakest position on the team with their starters and both corners have been either beaten up or out. The strength of the team is their defensive line and even with that going for them they had to beat a team lead by the amazing Alex Smith with extra time. I’m not saying that they won’t get better, but with leg issues for both starting WR’s after week 2 it isn’t looking promising for a post season run.

The Eagles made a big splash in the off season by signing a lot of talent, but they were all on the defensive side of the ball which is being run by an offensive line coach. Their best WR is 120 lbs and wants a new contract. Their 2nd best WR is coming off a mysterious illness. Their $100MIL QB is already injured…by the way he has a history of being injured. Oh yeah, the guys they have up front protecting him; they were hashed out like 10 minutes before opening kickoff of the season. And it gets better; they have a rookie LB’er calling the defensive plays on the field….you know the plays that the old o-line coach is sending in. I’m not exactly scared of them and if they can’t manage to keep Vick healthy somehow they get really unscary.

But the biggest challenge for us the last few seasons have been the G-men. Well they’ve got like 9 players on IR after 2 weeks. Lost a huge weapon in Steve Smith in FA, and they addressed that by completely overhauling their o-line by releasing proven players. The best and deepest defensive line in the division has been picked over in free agency and two of their best players up there are either injured or coming off injury in Tuck and Osi. We’re already a game up on them.

We’re not the ‘85 Bears or anything ourselves, but we have a QB that isn’t throwing every other pass into the dirt, an offensive line that’s actually a step forward and not two steps back, a completely revamped d-line, solid veterans at LB, a talented secondary (who sometimes takes too many chances) and if memory serves correctly (because it’s been so long since I’ve seen one)…what looks like the semblance of a running game at times. Plus we’ve got guys that can catch a ball out there even if they don’t have nicknames like Megatron or something equally as awesome.

But the biggest thing that strikes me here is that there just isn’t any drama or distraction on this team. I don’t miss the hourly NFL Network update on Fat Albert’s latest lap time or how he says he doesn’t want to play in the 3-4 but he will take the money. No passive aggressive comments from the QB….nothing. Just football.

Knock on wood fellas, we may fall short somewhere along the line, but we’re first in the division and everyone else looks like they’re going to be calling up players from the practice squad by week 4 just to fill a roster.

All well and good but...

Our secondary is down to the scrubs coming in as well. Hall is the only starter still standing. You’re looking at Barnes starting opposite and Westbrook playing nickel.
On the rest of it apparently McNoodle is still killing worms and Fat Al is still resting on New England’s turf, running out of gas every other play, and calling in sick. Wonder how long The Master Coach is going to put up with that? Probably about as long as Shanahan did short of cutting his lard ass.

I want a blow out

Not only do I want a win against Dallas..but I want a blow out…bigger than the 14 points over the Giants.. A blow out or shut out will be the only way we get any respect anyway..I hear nothing but excuses about our first two wins..and with Dallas injuries…a simple win will just allow them to continue the down talk about us.. Come on..we beat the Giants because of injuries ( no one speaks about how we held the offense in check ) ..we barely beat the cards ( no one speaks how we kept fighting till we won..or how besides the one blown play..shut down one of the top wr) ..so with the injuries…can I please have a 20+ point win….but honestly I’d be happy with 3 pt win!!
