Ten observations: Redskins 29, Bucs 24 | John Keim | NFL | Washington Examiner
John Beck certainly did not win the starting job tonight. Beck’s interception in the end zone is one that will bother the coaches, unlike the one he threw vs. Baltimore. That one, in their minds, was much different; it was like a punt. But this one ruined a scoring drive.
Rick Snider: No joke: This battle is by no means over | Rick Snider | NFL | Washington Examiner
Rollouts have consistently been Beck's strength; for instance, he threw a nice 22-yarder to Logan Paulsen near halftime. But can he produce in the pocket? Overall, it was a nice effort when he dropped back, but it's not Beck's strength.

There are going to be some tough cuts coming down for the LB corps.
Other things:
- Jason Reid needs to stop smoking
- Kevin, I’ve posted about Hightower playing b-ball before like a month ago. I thought you read everything I post, haha. Played pick up with him a couple of times at Robins Center and Millhiser Gym.
- Albert Haynesworth is fat
- It’s going to be funny when Fat Al starts dating Flutie’s daughter and then they get married
- Ryan Torain looked like Tiller was running the ball

I was amazed by Torain's burst on one play where he got caught flat footed near the line of scrimmage
I though he’d go down for a loss, then BAM! He shot forward I think a nine yard gain.

Good for Haynesworth
If he marries Flutie’s daughter. She’s hot.
For real though, who is Haynesworth fooling saying he’d give up the money? No he wouldn’t. He is greedy and would have taken that 100 million all over again. The guy is a big baby who is pretending like the Redskins mistreated him even though they were willing to put him wherever he wanted in the 3-4. The dude pisses me off.
i know right
cant wait for the skins 2 destroy the patriots this year maybe haynesworth will lay down again HTTR

I would LOVE to play you ain Bball Parks!!
I can’t even imagine you on the same court as Hightower. Have you had ankle surgery since?

Although it's highly doubtful the Skins win the division
it’s nice to get some love from Lombardi.

yep
He’s only 1 of maybe 2 or 3 people I take seriously. Mayock being the other.

I really like Lombardi, one of the most unbias dudes out there.
His argument with Jamie Dukes about Vince Young was hilarious: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-total-access/09000d5d8210d76c/Does-Vince-Young-have-a-future-in-the-NFL

Lombardi - hard to bet against the Eagles, but neither the Giants nor Dallas seemed to have improved much
since last year, and the Skins have. I can see 3-3 or better in the division (from 2-4), and we have an easier schedule than the other division teams (our two extra games are against Carolina and Minnesota). And for wild card, both the North and South look more balanced than the East, making it harder for non-champs to get wins. But we still have to win the games.
In other news, the Cowpukes financial troubles have caused them to cut back costs on cheerleaders

I guess I’ll no longer be coming back to this thread today.

Genius of Bruce Allen might come to light today...
Matt Terl brought up a good point. The reason Sellers and Stallworth likely got so much time is for the opportunity to do some pre-cut trades.
"It's a dog eat dog world, and I'm wearing Milkbone underwear." - Norm Peterson
I can't imagine that happens
It would be amazing GMing if you can convince a team to take a 36 y/o FB/TE for a pick. Stallworth…Maybe. I highly doubt it though.
Not only Bruce, but if I heard it right, Shanahan talked openly of scouring the cut down lists
trying to improve the team. Presumably O-line (especially after last night) and DE. I hope Stallworth makes it – he’s a real pro. On DE, they would probably like to improve on Scott and Worthington.
Your boy Adam Froman (QB) was cut by the Falcons on 9/1. The possibilities of other young QBs being on the waiver
wire can occur by Saturday evening.

If this is the framework
I would…
- Cut Sellers
- Keep Torrain
- Keep Stalworth because the rules handcuff Banks. Stalworth has been a good go to guy in messy scenarios this preseason.
That being said… I do feel Banks has a chance to be a star returner for the next few years… but he is no Desean Jackson (a good returner who developed into a great receiver). I do like him, we just can’t keep him because of his downside. Competition sucks… and rules!
If you're keeping Stallworth then you're cutting Paul, no thanks

I am...
Referring to the ESPN980 Facebook post in which they say

I think it suggests they would keep Moss, Armstrong, Gaffney, Hankerson, Paul, Stalworth, Austin.
I am just working in the framework of the rumor.
Gotcha

That's the decision - Stallworth or Paul
But Paul can go PS.
Why won't he?
Lower round pick, hasn’t done much in pre-season.
àre you seriously going to say "Banks is handcuffed"
By the new rules after he took one to the house last night? What would he have to do, score a TD every time he touches the ball for people to think that the new rules might not be as much of a set back as we originally thought?
I know it is only a preseason game, but he gave us 7 points and we only won by 5…

There are new punt return rules?
By the new rules after he took one to the house last night?
It was a great return but if you look at the endzone view the hole was big enough to drive a mack truck thru. I don’t know if another KR on the squad would of shot thru the hole and score, but I think they would’ve had a very good chance.

exactly
not to take anything away from Banks, but everything lined up on that return, it was a low line drive punt, by a guy who is going to be bagging groceries come monday, and the blocking was perfect. Austin, Paul, Armstrong whomever was going to get a great return on that one. Maybe Banks had a higher percentage chance to convert that into a TD, but that is basically the only difference.

swing and a miss
Banks had 4 kick returns last night out of 6 possible. His total kick return average was just 23.5, but that is pretty misleading. He took kicks out of the end zone -1 yard, -3 yards, and -6 yards, for returns of 16, 25, 32 yards. But that means the Redskins starting field position was the 15 (they got the FM penalty) 22, and 26 yard lines. So Banks got a grand total of 63 yards on those kickoffs, but had he just knelt all 3 he would have gotten the Skins 60 yards. Banks’s net return average was 21 yards (his 4th return was for exactly 21 yards), which isn’t that great at all . And shows that the new kickoff rule does more than just equate to more touchbacks.

haha i just responded, way too much research for a response
Steveospeak - Content Manager of Fanspeak.com
Ok, so he gave us 6 and gave the kicker the opportunity to add 1 more
that better?
And Steveo, is a returner only graded on kick returns, or do punt returns count as well? Is a 34 yard return average decent? And it’s not that Banks will score a TD on every kick off, it is the possibility that it can happen (since we have seen it happen with the old rules). IF he makes the team then maybe he will go all season without running a kick return the distance because the new rules make it too difficult. I am not ready to bet on that yet.

K Williams
I was watching Williams at FB last night, and I’ll say this; I’ll be very surprised if he make this team. He looked horrible at FB, especially down at the goaline. He half-heartedly attempted a block against a safety shooting off the edge, and just kind of turned his body and absorbed the blow, allowing the safety to slip off, and get a piece of the RB. He just doesn’t look comfortable at FB.
Sellers, on the other hand, looks much better. Maybe his versatility will keep him on the roster.

I was thinking the same thing....
Sellers looked pretty good in the short yardage situations, that might be just enough to keep him around for one more year.
I agree somewhat
but Sellers missed his share of blocks also. I say they only keep him if there is a concern that Cooley misses a week or two. B/c I think Williams offers the versatility at RB, and pass blocking the Redskins lack. Sellers can’t pass block (which is concerning for a guy his size) and Hightower can’t be in there on every play.

I'm not sure
that KW is that good at blocking period……………….pass or run

I heard Cofield said when asked about his personal goals for the season:
“My goal at nose tackle is for London Fletcher to get 200 tackles.”
Awesome, just awesome…
Late addition...what a dick.

Briggs wants a trade
I’d love to have him next to Fletcher. Too bad we got nothing to give for him.
