Reports are bouncing around now that Romo went back out yesterday with not only a fractured rib(s?) but also a punctured lung. Now let me just say that I've been a lifelong skins fan and avowed dallas hater but wow. I've worked in emergency medicine for the last decade and playing pro football with that kind of injury is straight up nuts. A punctured lung, in addition to being very uncomfortable, can lead to costal nerve damage and bleeding in the pleural space and death. Assuming the best case of a simple pneumothorax, you or I would be out of breath and gasping for help quite quickly. As an uncorrected pneumothorax progress to a tension one, the subject is unable to take a full breath. Corrective intervention may include a needle thoracentesis and/or chest tube. If any of this sounds familiar, it's because it's similar to Brandon Banks during the offseason.
The above was my long-winded way of saying "goddamn, that's tough." I may despise the death star but I'll raise a drink and say "hell yea" to a guy that not only made it back into the game but pulled out a win. Takes some real guts. If I were the team physician, I wouldn't hesitate to downcheck him for MNF and there's no shame in not playing with that kind of injury. Nonetheless, if Romo makes the field next week, he'll have earned more than a little respect from me.
BTW, ill take Grossman's crappy starts over Romo's crappy finishes any week :)
