Reed Doughty (Dooty)
For me, the one glaring negative from this game was #37 in burgundy and gold. He was exposed in every single facet of the game. Couldn't stop the run, was lost trying to cover the pass, it was really a pathetic display. He just lacks the necessary strength and speed to play close to the line of scrimmage.
To think about how much better this defense will be when Laron gets back on the field is scary. Dirty 30 might just take this D to an elite level.
Big time win and optimistic to get 37 off the field and 30 back on it.
PASS ME SOME MORE OF THAT KOOL-AID!!!

Doughty made some nice plays around the line of scrimmage

10 solo tackles....lead the team in that category
He is fine for a backup, but I wish he made a play on the deep pass to the TE down the middle. The pass hung up there for a while and it looked like he could have come back for it and knocked it down.
He was at fault on
Nicks’s 70 yard catch, Bradshaws TD, and the long pass to the TE over the middle. I’m sure there was more, but those are the big 3 I can remember.
These are 3 big time errors- led to ~100 yards and 2 TDs.
I have a soft spot in my heart for Reed
He filled in honorably the year we lost Sean.
10 solo tackles from a back up. Damn, no love.
Here try some of my Reed flavored Kool-Aid
he's a decent back up.
it is what it is

He is
Less than decent. He was pretty much responsible for every big play the Giants had yesterday. Not that that surprises me. That play against Andre Johnson last year should be on his Wiki page. It describes him perfectly. Tries his best, but just can’t get it done. Not that I blame Doughty. If you bring in a MinPin to be your guard dog, is it the MinPin’s fault when your TV gets snatched? No. He may be a good, loyal dog, but he’s the wrong dog for the job. Get a real damned Doberman, and be done with it .
you think he's a bad back up?
Ok man.

Lets be clear here
I am a huge fan of Dirty 30 but lets also remember that he too is a liability in coverage at times. I think both Doughty and Landry are more “in the box” type safeties and are lost in space. That is why we went and got OJ, to shore up the coverage. Landry and Doughty should be close the the line of scrimmage and not covering wide outs. Stick the TE in the middle of the field. If either of them are more than 25 yards from the line of scrimmage we are in trouble. Now, Landry “in the box” is far better than Doughty “in the box” but Doughty is a very capable backup….pretty sound tackling, good instincts and has good range. Every year Doughty struggles early on but gets better as the season goes on. Cut the guy some slack
How long
Do we “cut him slack”? He’s not exactly a young player anymore. He has blown way too many games for us over the years, it’s time to move on.
Doughty is better than Horton and has been since Horton's rookie season. With Haslett's scheme there is not as much
distinction between the FS and the SS as it is with many schemes. Gomes should get some playing time so that Doughty can get phased out. Landry may be a player of the past if he can’t stay healthy.
