One of the Biggest Redskins Fans I have ever known will be watching from above...

My pops passed away in Jan, so this will be the 1st season without my hero and best Skins buddy. We are from the DC area, but I now live in Houston. Hasn't been easy growing up a Skins fan in TX, but me and pops have gave all Cowgirl fans hell as well. He would call after every Skins game, whether good or bad results, I know he will be watching our Skins today,( and the Jets, he liked it more when Dallas lost than the Skins win, haha) I will be wearing his #55 jersey from the 70's in his memory. He was a great father and awesome Skins buddy. I thought you guys might like to hear a little Skins story from here in TX....GO SKINS......

Pops

we got to go to one Skins game together,  we saw the Skins beat up the hometown Texans a few years ago....

Great Post

My dad passed away in May, and he was the main reason I became a Skins fan, so I’m right there with you. Will miss talking with him after a win or loss.

Nicely done....

My pops passed away quite a few years ago now and he is definitely the reason I am such a passionate fan today.. We watched every game together (or if we were out on the sailboat, we listened to the call on WMAL, I believe it was Sonny and Sam even way back then). Even after all these years I feel rooting for the Skins is something that brings us closer together…..that’s not quite worded correctly, but I am sure you get the idea.
One a side note, my grandparents were also bis Skins fans (and I am in my 40’s). I can still remember my grandmother, who was the ultimate prim and proper “lady” shouting what has come to be her football catchphrase in my mind, “Stomp on their toes and gouge out their eyes!!!!”……on one occasion she even let slip a “goddammit” at the end and the entire room went into shock, I didn’t even think she knew those kinds of words.

Nice....

I am sure he is loved the game but am sure he loved your sentiments more….as a father…it means a lot to know your kids care about you as much as you care about them.

RIP Pops

Thanks for the note, and you know what…now that I think about it, I think I know who dropped that ball into Kerrigan’s arms.

It's all good man,

he got to watch the game with Sean Taylor and Sammy Baugh.

In good company...

There must be a stadium up there in the sky where all Skins fans meet up and watch the game together…. I’m sure he was there…. and must have been grinning from ear to ear with the way the Cowgirls choked as well…

Thanks again guys

I can still remember watching all of the Redskins SuperBowls with my pops, even when the Raiders beat us, my little brother ,4 yrs old at the time, just happen to become a Raider fan that day, and a sibling rivalry was born….. thanks for sharing your stories as well, the Skins run pretty deep in my family here in Texas, as well as back home in Woodbridge. HTTR!!!

Very Nice

Rest in Peace Pop! I know that he would be proud not only of the Redskins and they direction that they are taking, but also proud that his son would make such a nice gesture in honor of his memory. You may have lost a loved one, but here at Redskins nation, you both have gained a family!!

Like this idea...

…It’s Dallas week — Got any stories of what your Dad used to do leading up to the Skins-Cowboy games JNZO? Did he have any cowgirl fan friends he would call right after the Skins beat them down?

by California Granata on Sep 20, 2011 5:38 PM EDT up reply actions

I like it.....

I was just thinking that I was glad that it has been hanging around this long. I have really enjoyed the responses.
I would like to take it a step further if possible.
I would like to propose that we make JNZO’s pop the face for all the pops that passed down the great Redskins tradition down to the next generation. There are more than few here that have shared that relationship with their fathers (or Mothers, grandfolk, uncles and aunts) and that is something very few fanbases have or understand, and it is why so many of us are so dedicated.

With permission, of course, I would like to use that sweet 70’s pic in the 55 jersey as my profile pic from now until the Dallas game, and encourage anyone that wishes to honor our Redskin forefathers.
HTTR.
