Redskins Sign Donovan Raiola

The Redskins have agreed to terms with 28 year old center/guard Donovan Raiola. The Redskins will be Raiola's tenth NFL team since 2006, he has also played for the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL.  Terms of the contract have yet to be released. Raiola is most likely a depth pick at the center position behind Montgomery and Chester. He played his college ball at Wisconsin and most recently played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  Don't let his career stats overwhelm you after the jump. His brother Dominic Raiola was the starting center for the Lions since, basically, 2001. I'm hoping maybe Donovan will morph into Dominic this training camp.  Anyways, this Donovan should be less of a headache.

Well, it's depth I guess...

Couldn’t they find a UDFA with more upside? Raiola better not be getting much Payola.

I think they had to reach 90 today, so that's probably the reason.

Donovan Raiola does vaguely resemble Kramer

Though I think that episode he was a seat filler for the Tonys

Well I hope my Olineman don't get any sacks

so that’s a good thing a guess…

Now that I think about it, should the Olineman Fat Al threw into Cutler also get credited with a sack?

haha I had to get to 150 words, so the stat sheet was all I could find on the guy

I think Lichtensteiger gets one too?

The picture in the article....

haha, not sure what to think about this picture. Either he is so athletic he is downfield ahead of the RB waiting to crush a safety or CB or he is running aimlessly downfield missing defenceman and getting int he way of the RB while someone pulls on the RB from behind.

Here we go: Best caption for the picture in the article….?

Thats what I thought too.

It looks like he is about to nail his own running back.

I’m hoping maybe Donovan will morph into Dominic this training camp.

Lions fans would laugfh at that statement.

And the Nighthawks’ OL was terrible last year.

Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!

I still think if they had a choice between the two they would go with Dominic.

Giants already cut him?

Great idea, good lookout.

Even when he gets parked on ps, it’s a solid acquisition. He offers the kind of versatility to stick around here for years. Giants are more one dimensional with their linemen, looking for penetrators and pressure. Skins would move him around, ask him to eat space. Better prospect then several they’ve signed. Give him a year, and he could challenge next summer.

Amazingly a picture of this guy does exist.

That must mean he is really really good.

I had a personal countdown on how long this would take to pop up.

He’s terrible in coverage, our backup safeties are fine.

Taylor Mays and Laron Landry would be the worst Safety combo in the history of football.

they would be a dream safety combo for the eagles

I shudder to think about Mays and Landry in the box hunting people down, with asante, asomugha, and rodgers-cromartie playing man.

WAIT!!! Taylor Mays is the 2nd coming of Sean Taylor!

This is all I heard before the 2010 draft. This world would be a better place if all of those dummies would not procreate.

personally

I think we should trade Landry for Taylor Mays. Mays is extremely athletic, and younger. Obviously makes him better for us.

With the 3 safety formations that the Redskins run, the real question is...

Would Taylor Mays be an upgrade over Doughty, Horton, and Kareem? Haven’t seen Mays play much, but his upside and athleticism would seem to be head and shoulders above those guys. I don’t think he would have a problem jumping with Andre Johnson the way Doughty go out jumped like a white guy in the NBA.

With the Raiders, Sttelrs, Lions, and Cowboys so far over the Salary Cap...

I’m wondering who might be cut to get under the cap that we might be interested in. As of now, I think the ’Skins are still 11 million under the cap.

Chris Russell

is tweeting that Markus White is making plays again today…must be why Chris Wilson is still unemployed. Too bad cause I like Wilson but I have a feeling White is a player.

by el freako on Aug 4, 2011 5:53 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

Could it be that 8 (or 9) rookies make the team? Inconzzzibable!

OLB Kerrigan, DE Jenkins, WR Hankerson, RB Helu for sure…

and… S Gomes, NT Nield, OG Hurt, WR/KR Paul… possibly

and now… OLB White?

by 1x1an on Aug 4, 2011 6:08 PM EDT up reply actions

About the only rookie

who I’ve heard nothing about is the DB from Boise St. Thompson I believe…Aldrick Robinson probably won’t cut the mustard at WR but he would have made the PS last season.

Sorry off topic!

Hey guys… maybe somebody can help me out. I was trying to download some America’s Game episodes from Itunes but suddenly found that NFL network has been taken down from the ITUNES store…. can anyone else confirm this too? (live in Europe but US store)

O Line

I can’t believe with all the problems we have had with our O line for what feels like forever, they have not done more to fix it. This guy Raiola seems like a camp body.

Raiola

is the left shoulder pad you can barely see in the upper left corner. He was the Bears center at the time.
