"It’s not the worst case. I didn’t hurt my MCL or PCL. It’s a little setback, because I was kind of getting comfortable with what I was doing and seeing what the blocker’s seeing. It was kind of feeling like college again. I would see stuff, and would react. It’s just a freak accident, and I’ve got to come back -- and come back stronger."

I mentioned Shannon on Friday, I was really impressed with his defense.
I think he’s earned a spot on the practice squad at minimum. I’m sure the Bills may be a little upset they missed out on a guy right in their backyard.

So many players are showing great play

I have been impressed with Shannon, Thompson, Jones and Gomes (at safety and corner),
and it wouldn’t surprise me for one of Shannon, Thompson or Jones to make the roster over Buchanon! They all look like guys who could become good corners!
Personally
I’d rather have Shannon, Thompson, and Gomes over Horton, Moore, and whoever the bottom corner is on our roster right now (is it Westbrook?).
Shannon is 6' tall, but he has a 41 1/2 vertical jump. Few NFL DBs can jump like that. If he has the other CB skills he
could defense many WRs that are taller than he is. He should be at least a PS keeper.

I'm down with having only two QBs
so we can keep Banks
"If a man speaks and there is no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong???"
If Banks shows promise as a WR
which he has little time to do so if he doesn’t then that spot should be given to someone playing well and has greater potenial.

an elite return guy is worth a roster spot
if Banks shows he can be that good, he’s worth keeping.
This team is being rebuilt slowly & solidly, but needs big play makers wherever they can find them.

I don't think he's "elite" by any means. Austin has just a good of stats, he's just not flashy.

I think he could be.
But I don’t really know.
Like I said, “if”…

Austin's Stats
I assume your talking preseason, b/c Austin’s REAL stats are 1 career KR for 15 yards. That hardly compares to Banks’ career stats….

Preseason stats

Real stat is Terrence Austin never returned a single PR/KR for a TD in college in approx 600 attempts.
(He claims 3 got called back for holds, but still…thats a lot of bring backs)

If he did in high school does that count as a "real" stat?

He will fit right in with the Skins
and their penchant for getting called for a block int the back / holding at the worst possible time

I like Banks
But I only see him being worth while on punt returns and maybe some bad kicks on kick return he can take back but as a WR he hasn’t done much of anything. If they can somehow make him a spot cool but if they have other good players to take that spot then I don’t see him getting it.
yeah no.
The Eagles…the new Redskins.

give it some time. Their OLine is in shambles. Vick sees what…3 years max of that contract?

Agreed
I don’t see this big contract going well for the eagles. Sure does remind me of the old skins.
by The Red End on Aug 30, 2011 10:48 AM EDT up reply actions
Agreed +1
Philly has too much hype this year. They actually remind me of the 2000 Redskins… I predict an Implosion! 8-8 and a third place finish in the NFC East… You heard it here first!
Now pass me some more Kool-Aide.
except, you know, in talent.

"By far the worst performers on the (Redskins) are in the front office." – Sally Jenkins
What are you talking about? Madden Stats?
In 2000 the skins drafted S Mark Carrier, QB Jeff George, RB Adrian Murrell, AH Deion Sanders and DE Bruce Smith — They already had RB Stephen Davis and QB Brad Johnson (Superbowl winner).
One could draw many similarities between that team and today’s Eagles… Pointedly the run on Free Agents and the Hype before that season!
Besides, the point is: Individual Talent does not equal Wins. Anybody who’s watched the skins over the past ten years should know that!
You can’t compare Jeff George and Mike Vick
Asamougha and Deion Sanders at the age of 36 or whatever
Babin & Cullen Jenkins with Bruce Smith
it’s a poor comparison.

yes, those are better examples of how bad the comparison is
the Eagles signed good players in or near their prime.
Almost everyone the Skins signed in 2000 was washed up

Yes, 3-4 years is probably exactly how long that contract actually is for.
We all know these 6 year $100M deals are just fake numbers.

Just a feeling
That the Giants will be at the bottom of the NFC East this year. Everything I read about them is how they keep running into problems this year!
They've lost their top 4 corners
in the division with the best receivers in the league.
Doesn’t bode well for them.
Watching Ray Lewis get pancaked never gets old...
Especially when our second year tackle is doing the flattening! I’m downloading that to my phone right now.
The Eagles the new Redskins?
no matter how much rivalary exists between the two teams I could never admit to calling the Redskins the new Oakland raiders. This is just a stupid irrational statement that only a homer could convince himself otherwise.
You must not read my stuff too often…it was a mild comparison to the free-spending ways on big named free agents.

Some fans would say
that the Skins are/were the Oakland Raiders of the East…due to being dysfunctional (in certain matters)
he slept in late this morning...
b/c the video took up so much real estate i left him out. he’ll be back tomorrow.

Yahoo shows some love to the Skins....for once
I snagged Hightower last week in my 10 team league. I took him as my 3rd RB behind Michael Turner and Steven Jackson, but I plan on playing him in my flex spot every week. I also wont be surprised if I end up subbing Hightower in over either of those two backs by season’s end!
Hail to 'Em
On the other hand, they are tough on Torain
A wad of gum and duct tape holds that guy together.

I didn't realize that Miami is in such Dissarray at RB
Sounds like a team we could make a trade with, for Torain… if he has a good game vs. Tampa, I wonder if he can be traded for a decent draft choice.
Torain isn't worth more than a very late round pick
not with his injury history and lack of track record
"By far the worst performers on the (Redskins) are in the front office." – Sally Jenkins
He gained a lot of yards last year - ran wild several times
If he’s back and stays healthy he might shake the" injury prone" label. And one could argue that in the last few years he’s only had one injury – to the hand – not to the knee or something worrisome. But I’d guess you’re right – they wouldn’t get a very high pick for him.
Incidentally, somebody just cut Vernon Gholston. Would he help the Skins? I’m not sure what the announcers would do it we had a Golston and a Gholston on the team. Maybe call them K and V.
I wonder why Miami didn't look at Clinton Portis instead? Would seem obvious.
Apropos of nothing – From Redskins Nation – Larry Michaels mentioned that QB stats may not mean much, and gave as an example that Richard Bartels – he who battled Beck for #3 last year – is one of the few ahead of Beck and Rex in the QB stats. Nice to hear about an ex-Redskin doing well. Also makes one wonder how much of a competition it was, given Shanahan’s love affair with Beck.
By the way, about the QB competition. seems to me that Beck is likely to win it for psychological reasons: Beck would be shattered to lose it, whereas Rex would take it in stride. Also, Rex would be a good backup for Beck (been a backup, experienced and used to coming in as a backup), whereas Beck has played so little, and been so disappointed, that he’s not likely to be a very good backup Also, Beck is an unknown, so they should want to find out about him, which they can only do in a game, whereas they know about Rex, so they can just keep him on ice until Beck either does or doesn’t succeed.
You're right in that it's about psychology
but for different reasons. I think it’s pretty obvious Beck is the accepted leader of this team. The team plays more fired up with him. I mean, just look at the first possession: Grossman has to punt twice. Then Beck comes in, throws a perfect 33 yard pass, and HT makes a 37 yard dash to the end zone. That’s not a fluke. That’s the team rallying around their quarterback.
