Last night was probably as heated as we'll see this quarterback competition get in Washington. Sure Rex and Beck may get some playing time against the Buccaneers, but I would expect more of Kellen Clemens in others in the preseason finale. Both quarterbacks looked solid last night, but where do we stand now?
Rex Grossman: Grossman was Shanahan's starter right from the get go and took the lions share of playing time in the first half. It seemed to take him awhile to get in rhythm, but when he did he looked very solid. Grossman's performance culminated on a 24 yard strike to Santana Moss towards the end of the first half. I think is important to point out that Grossman gave Moss three legitimate scoring opportunities that drive. All's well that ends well and third time was the charm for the Rex-Tana connection.
Grossman finished the night going eight for fifteen for 112 yards, and a touchdown. For the preseason Rex is 34 for 53, with 407 yards and two touchdowns and an interception. He has a QB Rating of 92.3 and his completion percentage is currently over 64 percent.
John Beck: Beck's playing calling was noticeably different from Grossmans. He immediately came out with a vertical attack and hit Anthony Armstrong for a 33 yard pass and helped set up a Tim Hightower touchdown. Beck's second opportunity on the field wasn't as glamorous as he threw an interception to LaDarius Webb on a pass that was intended for Donte' Stallworth.
Beck looked decent the rest of the night, finishing six of ten, for 106 yards, a touchdown and an interception. For the preseason Beck is 20 for 27, has 248 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, is completing 74 percent of his passes, and has a QB rating of 99.
