Something a bit different

G'day All

As most of you know I am a huge fan of the Redskins who happens to have no affiliation, not only to the DC area but even the United States.  Born in England but raised in Australia it means I not only love the 'Skins but also follow a variety of other sports, hence this rather strange for a Skins site post.

I think if we are being honest, with Beck/Clemens/Grossman our QB options this is going to be a tough season, I have already said my main hope for the season is that we get a dozen starts into 10 -12 under 25 year old players and start developing the future, but I come here today to give you the opportunity to follow a winner.

As I have adopted the Redskins, an unfamiliar team, from an unfamiliar city in an unfamiliar sport for the last 20 years, I offer you the Hawthorn Hawks of the Australian Football League.  The final are fast approaching in the AFL (that weird sport with the 4 sticks at either end of an oval) and the mighty Hawks sit in the 3rd spot on the ladder.  On ESPN3.com and even ESPN2 TV you can follow some regular season games (4 rounds left) and then the Finals.  The Hawks play an exciting style, are young and in Lance Franklin and Cyril Rioli have two of the most exciting players in any sport in the world on their team.  Feel free to join your fellow Skins fan and like me adopt a team from the other side of the Pacific (only I crossed West to Follow the Skins you can cross East to follow the Hawks)

If you have an open mind and are willing to go beyond your normal comfort zones, I guarantee you that you will have 6 or 7 weeks of great sport fan fun as the Hawks launch their assault for a Grand Final appearance (Superbowl) and hopefully a championship.

If you are not interested I totally understand, but with so much pain on the horizon this year, I thought I would give you an opportunity to follow a team that in its own sports is young, tough and exciting, something we hope the Skins will be in 2 to 3 years, but are unlikely to be this year, so I offer you this opportunity while we wait.

GOOGLE  AFL US TV GUIDE for viewing details if you are interested, I think if you are prepared to give it a try you will be entertained.

Now lets hope I am wrong about the Skins, lets hope Beck is the great undiscovered QB treasure and that we make an assauly on the playoffs in 2011-12, who knows if you give the Hawks a chance, you may have double celebration this year  HTTR
