Why is Shanahan obsessed with the WR position?
Terrence Austin, Mike Furrey, Maurice Price, Taurus Johnson, Joey Galloway, Ray Small, Brandon Banks, Marques Hagans, Bobby Wade, Roydell Williams, Anthony Armstrong, Niles Paul, Leonard Hankerson, Aldrick Robinson, Donte Stallworth, and now our latest addition Jabar Gaffney.Yes, that is 16 wideouts brought in through the draft, trade, or free agency in a little over one year. I don't know what is worst....drafting 3 pass catchers in the 2nd round or possibly bringing in 20+ WRs in a 2 year span.
Chasing WRs would leave you in the gutter....look at the Lions. If anything the WR position should be the last position you should try to address. Maybe he want elite WRs so our rookie QB in 2012 can get off to a easy start, but what he fail to realize is we are stacking up at the wrong offensive position. Our rookie QB will NEED protection more than a elite WR bunch. Not only that but did he forget we have the worst defense in the league. Try stacking up on some cornerbacks or if we are going to suck this year then let it be with a young QB....run a QB carousel throughout the season or something.
I just know about this Shanahan guy. He said he is going to build this team the right way, but keep targeting a glamor position and then traded valuable draft picks for McNabb. Since Shanahan arrival we have been linked to Vincent Jackson, Santonio Holmes, Sidney Rice, Braylon Edwards, etc.. When Danny and Vinny was running the show we were always linked to the big name guy. Now with Shanahan be prepared to be linked to every big name WR that is on the market which basically makes him Matt Millen 2.0.

Linked!=Truth
We’ve been “linked” to every player out there, it seems, in the last few months (and even in the last few hours).
Not all of those are real. Me, I’m vaguely ok with one of the two new WR, though I would have preferred to spend that time/energy getting something from Denver for AH than JJ, for example (Orton for AH?)
Yeah, we don’t need any more WRs… at the moment, we don’t have enough QBs to through that many balls for them to practice. But Stallworth may be nothing more than a rent-a-player for the preseason to get the D players a target to go against.
Not sure why we trade JJ for Gafney, though… I’d rather have gotten a #4 (having given up a #3…..) that we can use for OUR choice of players next year.
No Danny, Nooooooo - Tom Landry, 1982., and Washington Redskins fans, 1999-
He's making the same mistake he made last year
giving practice and game time to old men like Joey Galloway, rather than seeing what a young guy can do
it’s bad for the future of the franchise

We have 90 roster spots to fill.....
what do you want them to do? I would have liked to see more UDFA’s but what can you do!
Yet another offseason......another few months for the Skins to "shine".
We'll see who ends up getting the reps as the pre season goes on
last year Joey Galloway was wasting everyone’s time. Hopefully Shanahan doesn’t do the same thing this year.

Competition
We need it at every position and given the roster last year at the WR position, I don’t think that it is a bad move to bring in some talent and have them compete/coach. I like the direction we are going in our rebuilding project, but I would like to see some OL additions as well as QB and CB competition. We have to rebuild the entire team, this will take some time. Be patient, we cannot turn this train wreck around in just one/two years.
