Redskins Have Serious Interest in Sidney Rice
With the lockout over and rumors really starting to heat up, nearly all the speculation around Redskins Park today has circulated around the wide receiver position. Many thought the Redskins would target a veteran wide receiver one way or another, but it is becoming increasingly clear that WR will most likely be priority number one for the Skins once deals can be made.
Adding fuel to the fire NFL Draft Monster (@NFLDraftMonster) has confirmation with numerous sources that the Redskins have legitimate interest in Vikings receiver Sidney Rice. Rice, who will turn 25 before the start of the season, has been plagued by injuries throughout his career and only started 5 games last year. His best year came in 2009 when he went for over 1,300 yards and 8 TDs, helping the Vikings to the NFC Championship game.
This is the second instance of the Redskins interest peaking at the WR position, earlier today the club was linked to Santonio Holmes being their top target.

Remember, in the next 24-48 hours there will be plenty of these rumors
Not all of them will be true.

I just talked with the guys from Draft Monster, it is a VERY legit source.
Still could be smoke though.

I'm not believing a single one of these rumors...
Until there is a signed contract.
A Redskin Potato
I'd be cool with this
I think we should sign one decent WR besides moss… and if we don’t resign moss, we really need a mid to top tier FA signing for the position.
we really need a mid to top tier FA signing for the position.
No, we don’t. We need to develop youth as part of a 2-3 year plan.
A 27 year old for premium money doesn’t help that plan.
At all.

True, I got his age mixed up with Holmes
I still don’t think an expensive FA in his prime is a good use of resources for this team.
We have a long term plan in place.

And
the Redskins options to get him the ball are John Beck and Rex Grossman?
facepalm
If I were a Wide Receiver, I would make sure my agent calls the Redskins, gets their best offer, and then I go back to my original team and say “Hey look at what Dan Snyder is willing to pay me! Now let’s make a deal!”
Because in a Quarterback driven league, the Redskins best bet is Rex Grossman or John Beck…really?

Just what I was going to type
This week is like a house of mirrors… fun, but confusing until you get out the other side.
Not an agent but a Skins insider that leaked this

We're hearing Rice, we're hearing Holmes
I won’t bank on a guy until he’s holding up jersey next to Shanny. Until then, I’m not going to dwell on a guy that we’re “after”.
I’d prefer Holmes to Rice though.

Seems as if the Holmes bidding war gets a little too crazy we're going after Rice.
This makes sense, provided we go after Orton as well. I see no point in signing a big name WR (as Smutsboy said) if we can’t even get them the ball. Doing any/all of this ventures away from the master plan that all of us here want to see the front office follow. Torn between kool-aid & common sense at this point. Besides it would make us more formidable on Madden. That has to play a big part in the decision making process, right?

We'll be linked to every big name FA in the next 48 hrs.
No need to get all crazy..

Wow
Didn’t see KELLY GREGG getting Cut -
I WOULD look into him even if he is 34 – I like him better with Bryant as a combo rather than paying 10/15 Mil per year for someone else
The thing is, we are probably "interested" in 10 or more receivers - there is probably a priority list
with names, how much we want them, an amount we would be willing to pay, etc. They may literally call the agents of 5 or 6 guys almost immediately. So all the rumors could be true in a sense, but we’ll only try for 3 or 4, and only get one or two. Same for other positions – check them out, see what they’re asking. Some will be asking too much, so won’t get taken early, so in most cases we should be cool, not just throw money at them. In effect, don’t believe any of the rumors.
I think we're gonna see a lot of "Old Face, New Place" coming this season.
It will be crazy.

I hope this is just a smoke screen
I voiced in the other thread i would not mind signing Holmes. However i think signing Rice would be a huge mistake. The dude was terrible his first two seasons and then had one good year when Favre came back. He has been riddled with injuries and would be a very risky investment. Signing Rice sounds like a typical snyder signing of the past, it has bust written all over it.
Re-sign Santana
Priority #1 RE-Sign Santana Moss
If they can sign Sidney Rice(at a very reasonable price) and he can stay healthy; I could envision an above par receiving crew. Move Santana to the slot, let Rice, AA and Hankerson and Jerry Rice(Vinny’s back) battle out “#1 and #2”. Seriously add another FA WR for competion(not Jerry). I don’t see Malcolm Kelly as anything more than a warm seat on the bench for one of the other players. Keep Cooley, he’s Captain Chaos afterall. Then just focus on the O and D lines via young talented reasonably priced FA’s and UDFA’s.
Forget all the big names, i.e. the Jet’s receivers Holmes…..Namadi Ossabuco(however u spell it). Sign him and may as well bring back Deion we can have the most expensive two cover corners ever!!! Wouldn’t that rock Danny??!!!?
I really hope Bruce Allen is in charge I think he can turn this laughing stock of a franchise around by making smart, sound decisions.
Let Albert’s fat ass sit all season long we won’t get jack shit for his lazy greedy golddigging sorry piece of monkey shit anyways. I’d personally like to see McNabb have a full season under Shanny Sr. w/out interference but that isn’t going to happen. So no idea what can be done with him.
So that will leave NT, CB, ILB to work with what we have. Spend the cap money we have to on O-line this year(get it solidified for the next 3-5 years). Save what’s left for the furture; work in our young players and see what inside talent we have. Find out who our real Redskins are.
As much as i would love to watch that fat pos
sit the bench, can we really afford the cap space his fat ass would eat up?

We've got like 60M in space right now...
And Haynesworth isn’t really that big a cap hit right now (he already got one of his HUGE bonuses in spring 2010, right?). So he’s not really that expensive. We’re actually going to have to make a pretty good effort to meet the salary minimum.
Rice
I for one would be for Sidney Rice as a 25 year-old who’s proven he can put up top tier WR stats.
He definitly a guy who could be part of the re-build
Moss, unfortunately, isn’t
I got Tiger Blood running through my veins!
yeah he can with...
one of the greatest qbs in the history of the nfl.
All signs point to WR being our #1 FA priority
All those who have said WR isn’t that important, obviously have been in blinders the past 10 years
I got Tiger Blood running through my veins!
WR isn't as important as OL
and it’s especially not urgent for a team with serious problems at OL and QB.
Don’t build straw men.
