I'm Starting with the Man in the Middle

I haven't seen this mentioned in a while, so I think it's important to discuss. The one guy that touches the ball on every single offensive play. The guy who has the closest relationship with the quarterback. The man who has two hands firmly positioned between his buttocks and danger zone.

Casey Rabach.

We all have cute nicknames for him. Casey Way-bach, Casey Roll-bach, Casey Flat on his-bach, Casey Will the Ravens take him-bach? The list goes on.

What to do about this perpetual proprietor of backfield blunders?

I think most of us can agree that his time is up, but he just keeps coming back.

I offer a suggestion.

Last season we saw a group of linemen enter the game due to injuries. An offensive line game of musical chairs. However, much to my surprise, this group performed admirably. Yes, I know it was against the Titans who don't have the world's greatest defensive line, but a strong performance is a strong performance.

The quarterback had time to stand in the pocket and survey the field. It was a miracle. How serendipitous.

I would like to see this in 2011. Will Montgomery at center. He's younger, stronger and a natural center. I think Stephon Heyer should move to right guard. The move to guard worked for Leonard Davis, why not Heyer?

I think Heyer's weakness is in blocking the quicker defensive ends, his massive size would be much better suited on the inside, where he doesn't have as much space to cover.

Maybe I'm just throwing ideas at the wall to see what sticks, but hey, it's worth a shot.
