Mike Adams in the Supplemental Draft ??
Mike Adams, the LT for the Ohio State Buckeyes is rumored to be considering entering the Supplemental Draft
Mike Adams & the other four players who were ruled ineligible by the NCAA for the first five games of the 2011 collegiate football season are possibly considering entering the supplemental draft this summer (it is part of the old CBA & therefore is not affected by the lockout tho it has not been scheduled yet). With Jim Tressels resignation over the weekend & OSU's football program in shambles it is very possible that some or all of the five players who are suspended by the NCAA might enter the Supplemental Draft.
Mike Adams is an elite talent at OT, he is rated #2 on NFLDraftscout, the 5th best OT by Mel Kiper & #46 on Dan Kadar (MTD) Big Board. If he stays, he is projected to go in the late 1st, early 2nd range by most scouts. He was All Big Ten 1st Team in 2010 (coach's) & All Big Ten 1st Team (media). He is a very good fit in a ZBS & extremely athletic at 6-8, 305 lb.s. Adams is still very raw & would need time & work to become a starter. He has a fair amount of baggage as well, he was not only involved in the tattoo incident but also was arrested for drug paraphernalia (a pipe, & the charges were later dropped because Jim Tressel called them up & told them too of a lack of evidence) & he was suspended for two games in 09 for undisclosed reasons. He has also had some injury issues, he needed shoulder surgery before his freshman season, he played four games that year & then had to deal with a foot injury. He also missed three games last year with a shoulder injury which required surgery at the end of the season.
The supplemental draft works like a silent auction with a draft order much like the regular drafts. If he goes in the supplemental draft, I would like for us to try & get him for a third but no higher. He has the talent & the tools to be a very good OT in the NFL but he also has injury & maturity issues that could severely affect him as a player.
The other players from OSU that might also be considering the supplemental draft are
Terrell Pryor - QB (no comment) if interested, post bio below
Dan Herron - RB - A very good RB who fits Shannys system very well. I think we have enough young, raw RBs on our roster already
DeVier Posey -WR - At 6-2, 210 lb.s 4.5 40 (est.) he would be another very good young WR prospect. He projected to go in the 2nd & is the #6 WR for 2012 by NFLDraftscout maybe Oaklands 4th??
Soloman Thomas - DE/OLB - A backup DE for OSU who is very talented & could be a steal in these circumstances. A 6th or a 7th ??

I like Adams
And if Pryor was will to move to WR I’d definitely consider him as well.
I think the better question is though what pick would we go with? I think your idea of a 3rd is good. This is definitely a very good OT prospect who might be jumping the gun going in this year, but he’d add some much needed help and youth.
Five game suspension in 2011-2012?
But worse may be on the way. Speculation is OSU may get hit with a similar fate Maryland did after Bob Wade. If that’s the case them you might see a lot of Buckeyes bail. Wouldn’t waste the pick on Pryor. Adams is the only player we’re in need of….more offensive line help.
Yeah that ride to class that MD gave Rudy Archer was well worth the death penalty.
Tressell would be labeled a saint if he was giving students rides to class. Instead his guys are given cars to drive around in…

I just dont see shanny pulling the trigger
He is not a lunch pail, go to work everyday and do what the coach tells you guy. Adams seems sort of reckless and a locker room problem.
Adams is probably the 2nd or 3rd best OT out of next year's crop.
I’d put in a low ball offer (3rd or 4th) and just see what you get.

My thoughts, too.
A fourth rounder would be ok; you normally get players in the supplemental at one-two rounds lower than projected. With his issues, I could see a slide of a round.
No Danny, Nooooooo - Tom Landry, 1982., and Washington Redskins fans, 1999-
I agree (though he is prob. more like the 4th or 5th best once juniors declare)
He’s a fringe 1st round talent, and if he has a season like he did last year then he should be a top 25 pick. I’d easily put in a 3rd rounder even if there is a pretty high chance that it will be an early 3rd round pick. Adams would be great value there and he’d give us a nice cheap, young option for RT. There is a chance he could go in the top 2 rounds of a supplemental draft or earlier in the 3rd (it’s based on this year’s draft order and the Cards, Browns, and Bills could all snatch him up before the Skins do), but I wouldn’t overreach and use a 2nd.

You're absolutely right, I was discounting juniors. My bad.

well from the 2009 terelle pryor highlight (the best way to check oline)
he didnt play much @ LT but rather #64 Blackman, Ivan. i would say 4th for any of those prospects. the skins dont need a RB, nor WR. OT take time to develop so drafting him and letting him sit and learn wouldnt be a bad idea. but i wouldnt spend more than a fourth on anyone in the supplemental draft.
and in 2010 he still had not broken into a starting role
on the ohio state football website it says he would share time @ left and right. he seems good but not particularly athletic.
He really broke out this past year and should the elite tackle abilities that had been touted for him
his projection is based on having another good year (in obviously limited time) but I do believe in it. Had he come out this year he was probably a 2nd or 3rd rounder. I could see him fitting in at RT though for the Skins.

He was the starting LT in both 09 & 10
He was All Big Ten 1st Team on both the Coaches & Media poll for 2010 & is extremely athletic. His talent & ability are not as much in question as is his maturity & injury issues
It's those concerns
That makes me say we should pass on him.
Don't know that he fits Shanny's new draft profile
For a guy with character concerns and injury concerns in the supplemental draft, I’d be kind of upset if we ponied up anything better than a 4th.
agreed
not much to add…
but i do think he’ll go well before our 4th. If we got lucky and landed him for a mid round pick i wouldn’t be pissed
The Beat Box aka skins secondary.
I don't know
I think the Nats obviously made an effort to look for guys without major injuries and character concerns and seniors, but that could also be somewhat because of the lockout, and not being able to have the OTA’s and minicamps a typical rookie class would get. Now obviously Adams will miss out on those things as well, but any supplemental pick would miss those.
I just think using a 3rd on Adams would be like giving us an extra late 1st rounder. Not to mention we will have him this year, which will be more value than any other 3rd rounder next year will deliver. If they are smart and land him, they bring him along slowly, but hopefully have him starting by midseason, and then have him the longterm answer going forward.

I agree (except for the Nats part)
It is possible that OTAs & spring training could take place after a new CBA is reached & if there were a supplemental draft, any players taken might possibly be included. A couple of the other OSU players are also quality high round picks that might be available at bargain basement prices. Posey is a very talented WR that could easily develop into a #2 down the road. Thomas is a very talented DE who could transition to the role of OLBer. I don’t know why any of the five would return to college next year, a five game suspension plus the unknown sanctions that the NCAA will probably be handing down to the program plus the loss of Tressel & his staff. I think it will be a long year for OSU fans & players.
if you could put a 6th in for Posey maybe I'd do it, but after drafting 3 WR's this year it would be a hard sell to use anything higher

I'm so confused now, are we talking about Buster Posey or Devery (or whatever his name is)

Devier Posey
I thought you were pretty high on him before he decided to not enter the draft this year, seems like I remember you & Tiller getting into it (hard to imagine, I know) about him.
Yea it was early December and I was saying to grab him as a large possesion WR in the 2nd or 3rd, here was my plan:
Why go after an interior lineman first?
1st Round: Sherrod (Miss State) or Carimi (WIS): You have bookend tackles for the next decade then
2nd Round: Wisniewski (PSU), O’Dowd (USC), or Hudson (FSU)
Now your o-line is greatly improved and is a young unit that can grow together. Then potentially try to use the Raiders 2012 pick to trade up and grab a WR like Posey, Hankerson, or Titus Young. Depending on what happens in FA maybe even grab one of the many CBs in this draft or take a stab at Devlin or Stanzi if their still floating around.
This path improves our team to a greater degree rather then going Julio Jones and then best available lineman.
Tiller was saying he didn’t think Posey was any good b/c he saw him at a camp one time or something. I think it’s b/c Posey has publicly stated he doesn’t like capris.

Offer the extra 4th we got from Oakland (Jason Campbell deal)...
