Last night I dreamt who the Redskins picked at #10 and it was...
Julio Jones!!
Needless to say, I was disappointed with my dream and vowed never to sleep again. Don't get me wrong, Julio Jones is a great player and may be the best player on the board when we pick, but I want a player that is the best on the board AND fills a need. If we drafted Jones (which I have increasingly started to see a number of mocks project for us) it would be like Calvin Johnson's first few years on the Lions, an elite player that can only marginally help because the rest of the team is crap.
Sorry, I didn't want to start mindless draft chatter again but I couldn't help but wake up angry. Hopefully, I can now return back to my usual dreams of partying with Charlie Sheen.

I would stick with the Goddesses
Definitely a win-win there. W/Julio…..like you say, not so much.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
HH reports that Kiper has us taking Jones, too
All guesswork.
With a comment like this

I can see you don’t really follow this team
Are you not entertained?

You must
share a bed with Mel Kiper. As of March 9, 2011 Mel Kiper Has Julio Jones going to the Redskins…
Follow up posts with Mel Kiper this and Mel Kiper that…
I have no interest
in the dreams of somebody names “Floppy P”
One more thing..
Julio is no megatron. Meagtron is a top 5 WR and when you look at the top 5 WRs (Fitz, AJ, Marshall, DJax) what have they won? Nada, zip, zilch, zippy.
I consider myself a one man wolfpack..
This doesn't really have anything to do with the Redskins...
but DeSean Jackson a top 5 WR? I’m taking Roddy White, easy (I’d put him above Marshall, too). I’d put Jackson in the next tier with guys like Jennings, Austin, and Nicks.
I also don't love this kind of logic.
You could say the same thing about the best OTs in the league:
Thomas, Clady, Long — zip, zilch, zippy. Who was the last SB champ with an elite LT? Rams with Pace? Does that mean having a top LT is bad?
Love, like, hate it...I don't care.
Now name the top QBs in the league (Brady, Manning, Brees, Rodgers) and tell me what they have in common. You may not like DJax (I don’t) or Marshall but they’re better than White etc..
A WR is a luxury on a team with as many needs as we have. They are just too dependent on the other 10 players on O. That was my point.
I consider myself a one man wolfpack..
Whether you care or not, it still refutes the similar reasoning you used against WRs.
I’ll agree that having a good QB is very important to winning in today’s NFL. Teams competing for the SB generally have a good QB, and I think there’s definitely a connection. However, I wouldn’t really bet on any QB in this year’s draft to become a good QB. I just don’t love any of the prospects.
I wholeheartedly disagree on Roddy White vs. DeSean. 115 catches for 1389 yards and 10 TDs vs. 47 catches for 1056 yards and 6 TDs. White sees more double coverage. White is the more complete receiver, whereas Jackson is mainly just a deep threat (albeit a fantastic one).
I know I may be going against popular opinion here, but I don’t think WR is necessarily a “luxury.” I don’t think any position is a “luxury,” other than like a kicker or punter. All positions on offense are dependent on all the other positions. Yeah, we’ve got lots of holes. I’m just more concerned with filling the holes with the best players available, rather than filling the holes in some perceived “correct order” (there’s a good joke here somewhere).
Here is what I want if we stay at #10
OLB Robert Quinn.
Let me use this quote again by Bill Walsh:, "only pick a WR when all other positions have been solidified." This coming from a guy that drafted and coached the best WR of all-time.
WRs are too dependent on others, that’s why I named the top 5. And since you love Roddy White so much…What has he won?
I consider myself a one man wolfpack..
I would be happy with Quinn at #10.
Not sure if he’ll be there, but from what I’ve read and the limited video I’ve seen, he looks like a great prospect.
Bill Walsh certainly deserves a ton of respect, and he knows way more about football than I do. However, if Rice had come along five years earlier and Walsh passed on him for, say, a DE, it would’ve been a bad move (not that any WR in this draft is Rice’s equal). Wouldn’t you also agree that, however valuable you perceive WRs to be, they’re more valuable in today’s NFL than they were in Walsh’s? Also, do you have a link for that quote? I couldn’t find one, and it’d just be nice to see the context. And regardless of the context, I still place much more weight in picking the best players as opposed to picking the correct positions.
With that in mind, I really wouldn’t have a huge preference in picking between guys like Robert. Quinn and Julio Jones. I think they’re both worthy of the #10 pick. However, if Quinn happens to be off the board and we’re looking at Julio or, say, Aldon Smith, I’d rather grab Julio because I think he’s a better overall prospect.
Skins need to trade down for more picks.
Alec: Chris, did you really buy a $1400 toilet?
Chris: Yeah, it's great. It's Japanese and has those little warm water jets that clean the undercarriage.
Eric: Chris, it's a toilet, you shit in it.
