Don't worry Christina- the National Anthem is ruined at Redskin's games all the time

So I know the Super Bowl is over and done with, and as Skins fans we’ve already moved on to the draft and free-agency (when we really come to play!)

But I’ve always had a huge beef with something that happens at Redskin’s games that I was reminded of last Sunday-

“…gave proof through the night that our flag was still there

Ooooooooo! say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave”

Now I know Christina Aguilera messed up our nation’s anthem and that it was a big deal. But it makes me more upset every time I hear the stupid O! chant (in support of the O’s) anywhere other than Camden Yards than it did when our, now a little heavier, genie in a bottle botched the words.

I’ve never screamed O! during the anthem. I hate it. I can’t stand it. I loathe it. And, believe it or not, it’s not just because I’m not an O’s fan. It’s because it’s made for the O’s. At their stadium. In Baltimore.

If I’m at Camden Yards, I’m all for it. But if I’m anywhere else (except maybe M&T Bank), it makes me want to slap a young child when I hear it.

Do I love it when the Caps fans scream “RED” in unison during “Rocket’s RED glare”? Yes. But is it all ruined when the O! chant is just as loud? Yes.

The Washington Redskins are not and should never be affiliated with the Baltimore Orioles. Ditto for the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals. And the Washington Nationals, at Nats park? Don’t even get me started.

I don’t want to take it away from O’s fans. In fact, I think it’s great. For them. In Baltimore. But can’t the Redskins have their own National Anthem fun?

Here’s what I propose:

“Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,

What so proudly we HAILED! at the twilight’s last gleaming?”

I know I can’t be the first person to think of this, but for whatever reason nothing’s been done. FedEx Field has never had much of a home game feel to it, and while a silly thing like this won’t change it, I think it could be a great part of the FedEx experience.

So Skins fan, I ask you- would you be up for this? And how can we get 95,000 of our closest friends to come onboard as well?

Hail to the Redskins. And what so proudly I’ve Hailed.
