Fanview: Who gets drafted #10 poll continued…
Hello All,
I am a Vikings fan... I'm not coming here to berate or demean any Redskin's, team, players or fans.
I am simply here to try an experiment...
I have worked my way through the first 9 teams on SB*Nation, now I am to pick #10 the Washington Redskins. I am curious to see from a fan's point of view, how accurate we can be at predicting what our teams might do in the draft.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, in order, I started with the Panthers fans. Their decision was:
With the #1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select Nick Fairley. 33 / 91 Total Votes
Official Results are here: http://www.catscratchreader.com/2011/1/12/1931287/fanview-who-gets-drafted-1
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next, I was onto the Bronco's... Their decision was:
With the #2 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Denver Bronco's select Da'Quan Bowers. 109 / 247 Votes
Official Results are here: http://www.milehighreport.com/2011/1/18/1942097/fanview-who-gets-drafted-2-poll-continued

Next, I was onto Buffalo. Their decision was:
With the #3 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select Patrick Peterson. 315/867 Votes
Official Results are here: http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2011/1/20/1946453/fanview-who-gets-drafted-3-poll-continued
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next I was onto Cincinnatti, their decision was:
With the #4 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Cincinatti Bengals select A.J. Green. 120/228 Votes
Official Results are here: http://www.cincyjungle.com/2011/1/25/1955518/original-fanview-who-gets-drafted-4-poll-continued
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next, I was onto Arizona, their decision was:
With the #5 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Arizona Cardinals select Von Miller. 41/129 Votes
Official Results are here: http://www.revengeofthebirds.com/2011/1/27/1959613/fanview-who-gets-drafted-5-poll-continued
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next, I was onto Cleveland, their decision was:
With the #6 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select Robert Quinn. 37/140 Votes
Official Results are here: http://www.dawgsbynature.com/2011/2/1/1968292/fanview-who-gets-drafted-6-poll-continued
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next, I was onto San Francisco, their decision was:
With the #7 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select Prince Amukamara. 254/426 Votes
Official Results are here: http://www.ninersnation.com/2011/2/4/1974671/fanview-who-gets-drafted-7-poll-continued
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next, I was onto Tennessee, their decision was:
With the #8 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans select M. Dareus. 109/250 Votes
Official Results are here: http://www.musiccitymiracles.com/2011/2/8/1982369/fanview-who-gets-drafted-8-poll-continued
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next, I was onto Dallas, their decision was:
With the #9 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys have decided to Trade Down – 201/443 Votes. Since they could not find a suitable trade partner, they have seleted Ty. Smith 95/443 Votes
Official Results are here: http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2011/2/14/1993760/fanview-who-gets-drafted-9-poll-continued
The Cowboys put in a lot of effort to trade down.
They made unsuccessful efforts to trade with:
#12 Minnesota
#14 St. Louis
#15 Miami
#16 Jacksonville
#17 New England (from Oakland)
#18 San Diego
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will be giving Redskin's fans several days to hash out what you think your team will do / should do with the 10th pick of the draft.
Next, I will move on to the Texan's site and let them know what you, as the fans have decided. I will take your pick off the board, then let them hash it out for the #11 pick of the draft... then continue on in 2011 draft order:
-
Carolina (2-14)Nick Fairley Denver (4-12)Da'Quan Bowers-
Buffalo (4-12)Patrick Peterson -
Cincinnati (4-12)A.J. Green -
Arizona (5-11)Von Miller -
Cleveland (5-11)Robert Quinn -
San Francisco (6-10)Prince Amukamara -
Tennessee (6-10)M. Dareus -
Dallas (6-10)Tyron Smith -
Washington (6-10)????????????????? - Houston (6-10)
- Minnesota (6-10)
- Detroit (6-10)
- St. Louis (7-9)
- Miami (7-9)
- Jacksonville (8-8)
- N. England (14-2) from Oak.
- San Diego (9-7)
- NY Giants (10-6)
- Tampa Bay (10-6)
- Kansas City (10-6)
- Indianapolis (10-6)
- Philadelphia (10-6)
- New Orleans (11-5)
- Seattle (7-9)
- Baltimore (12-4)
- Atlanta (13-3)
- New England (14-2)
- Chicago (11-5)
- NY Jets (11-5)
- Pittsburgh (12-4)
- Green Bay (10-6)
So, I have cruised a few posts here at Hogs Haven, and come up with some prospects that fans have been talking about (and a few prospects I added myself):
B. Gabbert - QB
C. Newton - QB
R. Mallett - QB
J. Locker - QB
J. Jones - WR
M. Ingram - RB
N. Solder - OT
B. Harris - CB
J. Smith - CB
A. Ayers - OLB
C. Jordan - DE/DT
R. Kerrigan - DE
A. Clayborne - DE
and leaving a choice for "*Other" and "**Trade Down". (SPECIFY WHO, THOSE WHO AGREE REPLY WITH +1)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*FOR OTHER - PLEASE SPECIFY IN A POST THE PERSON YOU WOULD SELECT INSTEAD (AND FOR THOSE WHO AGREE, POST +1, SO I CAN ADD THE TOTALS AT THE END)
** Trade Down: If the fan's are to select "Trade Down", it will be dually noted... I will move on noting, "Redskins have chosen to trade down, but their selection will be the next highest amount of votes... unless:
(The process for trading down... I will give you the Trade Down (only) option IF...a representative from the "Hog's Haven" site can get a SOLID agreement with a team (SBNation Blog) to trade the pick to. You would need to Poll a site, give them the offer, and win over their picks. I WILL NOT accept this offer if the margin of the poll is less than 15 votes. This process would need to be complete prior to the end of this Fanview poll closing.)
The whole process of trading down would be really difficult to move around, so if this is what the fans choose, the fans will need somebody to step in to make the pick. (I would need you guys to step up, and work this out on your own. I would post the results.)
Thank you for participating, and good luck!

This is a fantastic Idea, great job

Other
Trade down is the first option, if not Aldon Smith, OLB/DE Missouri Skins need another pass rusher and can get a DE later
Steveospeak- content manager of http://www.fanspeak.com
I'm leaning towards Ayers but havn't voted yet, that said i'd like to know why you think Smith is a better prospect
feel free to reference previous posts, I would like to trade down in this scenario but as carver said thats a throw away, but our defense would be looking pretty if we got another OLB at #10 and a NT in the second.
I like both guys but for me Smith is higher
Ayers I know is getting some hype but I think he is more a late teens early 20’s type of guy. Part of the reason I think he gets credited with going higher is he profiles very well as a 4-3 linebacker.
For me Smith is neck and neck with Quinn for 2nd best rush linebacker prospect behind Miller. I want to see how he does at the combine to make sure he can standup. But I love his size and speed. He has great explosion and a nice burst as well. If he shows any semblance of being able to cover you take him. He is better and more disruptive than Ayers in my book.

I think Aldon would be a nice fit as a 3-4 OLB and hearing that his athleticism is comparable to Jason Pierre-Paul just makes me think of the possibilities it will create for the defense.
by Nobetterthenbob on Feb 18, 2011 6:05 PM EST up reply actions
Agree
I believe trading down is the best option as it gives them more picks to address numerous needs for this team. I rather go after NT in Phil Taylor out of Baylor. NT is the most key component to the 3-4 as that position failed the most as the Skins were hoping that Haynesworth would have filled that position but we all know how that turned out.
by Kevin O'Connor on Feb 23, 2011 7:28 AM EST up reply actions
Guys,
you realize that “trading down” is going to be a throwaway vote, right? Unless you can convince another site to trade up within the next couple of days, then whoever gets the 2nd highest number of votes is our pick, which means your trade down vote didn’t really matter at all.
we need our best debater to engage them
I’d nominate you but you seem to rub people the wrong way lol
SpottieOttieDopaliscious
...
I’m sure he does Carver, but I’m sure he would like for you to keep what goes on at home between the two of you…

WARNING!!:
This is harder than it looks.
Please visit the link to the Cowboys official results… Check out their discussion.
Go for it if you would like… but don’t say I didn’t warn you!
who does Miami want to trade up for?
they turned our (Cowboys) deal down which was more than fair if they wanted Cam Newton but apparently they don`t…not if they have to trade up for anyway.
i really DOUBT
That both von miller and robert quinn will go before our pick so i see us picking whichever one slips to us

People better start ordering their #2 Cam Newton Jerseys

For you guys who voted for Cam Jordan
whould your thought process change if the staff insisted on keeping Haynesworth(which is still a very realistic possibility)?
Are you not entertained?
No because that's not happening. For more information See: Waitress Grope and Assault.
which is still a very realistic possibility

If we somehow kept Haynesworth and he played defensive end…
Then yes, I would think we need either a cornerback, outside linebacker, or wide receiver (not necessarily in that order) with that first pic.

No because we need someone opposite him
Carriker is at best league average, and without a stud NT, your ends have to be as good as possible. After end, I’d still take an OLB, or OT (its early for him but Carimi is a stud).
Steveospeak- content manager of http://www.fanspeak.com
This is a great idea and post.
I voted for trade down, and would still try to convince Min or Mia to make a deal.
If I had to make a choice right now, pre-combine, I would go with Cameron Jordan in this scenario.
Be curious to see how this fan draft plays out a week or two after the combine. Quite different, I would think.
I love the hypocrisy of this poll (not the author or the poll itself, but the results)
Most people picked Julio Jones when they could have chosen a more important position and yet people go out of their way and say that we should draft a QB or a Defensive Player.
Dear Passionate fan, I know you are passionate, but please reply with a logical answer or I will ignore you.
Agreed.

I stayed consistent....I went Newton
However….I would like to attempt to execute a trade I suggested before.
Haynesworth and our #10
FOR
STL #14 and their Round 3 pick
Anyone up for offering that to them?
According to the value chart they would owe us more.
Unless we included Haynesworth.
I consider myself a one man wolfpack..
My list would be...
1. Julio
2. Solder
3. Cameron Jordan
…in a pretty close race. And I do breathe through my mouth a lot; I have bad sinuses.
I'm just not a big fan of Newton as an NFL prospect.
It’s not even because of his alleged “character” issues (although I will be interested to see his Wonderlic score and hear how he did in interviews). Buying a stolen laptop and cheating on tests is wrong, but it’s a far cry from sexual assault or decking a guy after driving like an idiot.
I’m concerned with his accuracy. He’s shown the ability to make some fantastic throws, but his accuracy at Auburn was inconsistent at best. This goes for all types of throws, including the deep ball, which seems to float on him fairly often.
I’m concerned with his fundamentals. His footwork is funky and he makes a lot of off-balance throws. I realize that his freakish ability allows him to get away with this more than most other players, but it’s still something that can lead to bad throws that NFL DBs will take advantage of.
I’m very concerned with his ability to read a defense. His Auburn offense was ridiculously simple, with maybe one or two progressions per play. This absolutely will not fly in the NFL. I’m not saying he can’t learn to be a better field general, but at this point we’ve really got no evidence to say whether he is or isn’t capable of making complex reads against a defense.
I’m not gonna deny his strengths. He’s an elite runner with a great arm (and, unlike many past “physical freak”-type projects, his throwing motion is pretty solid). He seems to be a good teammate, a great clutch player, and he was a winner at the college level. I can see the argument for drafting him based on his upside, but, IMO, there are enough nagging weaknesses in his resume that lead me to believe he won’t succeed as an NFL QB.
I agree, also defenses will have had a year to adjust in the off season.
I would like to have seen him have another year in school, to see how he handles the success and opposition adjustments. I don’t blame him for coming out, it’s in his best interests, but another year of tape would have me feeling a whole lot more comfortable spending a high pick on him.
I go Cam Newton too
Shanahan is a QB guru. Pairing that with Newton’s freakness would be dangerous (in a good way for us).
But with no QBs taken yet, I think there's a good chance Locker will still be there in the 2nd.
Julio and Locker would make me really happy too.
I can't believe that Jones is getting so many votes
Our receivers this year could have been Andre and Calvin Johnson and our only two more wins would be against the Texans and Lions because those players wouldn’t kill us this season. Look how many big receivers were on BAD teams this year…the only reason you draft Jones in my book is if you are trying to tank for next season to draft Luck. People might not like that sentiment, but it is true. Elite receivers don’t mean much without a QB, running game, offensive line and defense.
Steveospeak- content manager of http://www.fanspeak.com
besides AJ Green is this year's CJ and AJ.
drafting Julio would be an epic fail.
I consider myself a one man wolfpack..
agree...though the point remains the same if Green fell to us
Steveospeak- content manager of http://www.fanspeak.com
Have you seen JJ play?
He is a rare talent. Bigger and just as fast as Green. Some say their 1 and 1a. I still believe Green is the better of the two, but just by a hair.
I’ve seen Jones play since he was in high school. The kid is going to be a great pro.
Are you not entertained?
Julio is stronger withe the ball in his hands and blocking
Who ends up better will depend on who’s wants to put in the time.
Have I seen him play? of course.
Green has better hands, better route runner and is an elite prospect. He’s a top 3 prospect in this draft while Jones is outside of the top 10. Green is Larry Fitz with speed.
I consider myself a one man wolfpack..
top QB still available at 10
I would prefer to trade down with a team that is in the market for a QB and stand pat with McNabb this year. Given that the Cowboys just tried and failed in the same position, and that A.J. Green and the elite defenders are off the table, this is a reasonable time for us to make that QB of the future pick.
I’m most comfortable with Gabbert.
to be clear, I would target Seattle for the trade-down.
otherwise, the obvious partners are Miami, Minnesota, and Jacksonville. It sounds like we won’t be able to get it done with any of them, though.

I think you should start including Aldo Smith in your poll, also you only have 1 OT on the list with Solder and it`s debatable if he`s the top 1 available, Costanza, Carimi, Sherrod. Pouncey might be worthy of consideration as well.
If we draft another OT with our 1st round pick in 2011

Possibly
but I think if we trade back, it may be for Locker, or maybe even a guy like Watt or Phil Taylor
Are you not entertained?
I'd much rather have Ponder than Locker
Watt and Taylor would be excellent picks if we trade back (and Watt could move up into the top 10)
Steveospeak- content manager of http://www.fanspeak.com
by Steve Shoup on Feb 20, 2011 12:25 PM EST up reply actions
Just curious why do you like Locker over Ponder?
Locker’s in accuracies scare the hell out of me. I like Ponder’s brains and overall ability, but I question if he will be anything more than a good starter.
Steveospeak- content manager of http://www.fanspeak.com
I believe Ponder has less upside
while Locker has a celing even Manute Bol couldn’t touch.
Locker was surrounded with below average athletes, while Ponder had some of the most gifted skill players in the country to work with.
I’m a fan of the guy who does more with less, and I believe Locker has done just that.
Are you not entertained?
Locker's dedication to the game and the work involved with being an NFL QB
Are what really set him apart for me.
Right now it is tied at 74/74
between Newton & Jones. Altho Newton is my 1st pick, Jones would also be fine, pleasantly surprised at Hogs Haven readers
I'm not.
Julio would be a draft fail. I’d be ok with Newton if Shanahan determined that he’s our guy but a WR is too dependent on the other 10 positions and would be a luxury pick at this point.
I consider myself a one man wolfpack..
I agree in a way
but for different reasons. I think this draft has many very good WRs so I would go WR later. If the plan is that it’s going to take a couple of seasons to be competitive again then adding pieces for a run beginning in 2013 might make sense
FWIW I'd take Newton in a heartbeat before Jones.
He has more upside.
Dear Passionate fan, I know you are passionate, but please reply with a logical answer or I will ignore you.
by TerpsAllTheWay on Feb 20, 2011 6:50 PM EST up reply actions
I'm not speaking for Terps here, but...
If QB is the pick at 10 then Newton is the pick based off of potential. I can think of ten players I’d take before Jones @ 10.
I consider myself a one man wolfpack..
Jones is damn good and we need WR's desperately
He is a game-changer. If Newton, Dareus, both the CB’s, and Quinn are gone, Julio is my pick.
Are you not entertained?
Obviously, without stating the obvious
Fairley & Green are also off the board, then Julio Jones would also be my choice. Any top ten pick should be a player that we could legitimately expect to be a Pro-bowler within a couple of seasons at whatever position we pick. I understand the argument that we need immediate help at certain positions but I think we need to take the long range view. This will not be a one year fix, being a contender in 2013 & beyond is better than “not sucking as much” in 2012. Think of it as pieces to a puzzle, some pieces are gold, others silver, copper, tin & so on. Whether a WR is a critical need right now or not, the 10th pick in any draft needs to be GOLD, not a position that we REALLY need right now but get an inferior talent at because that is all that is available in this draft (guard for example) or a second tier defensive lineman. That 1st pick should be an elite player at whatever position we draft, not the best player on the board for our biggest need
You must rank Julio pretty high then..
I’d put him somewhere between 15-20 overall. Like I said, there are 8-10 players that could ne available at !0 that I would take ahead of him.
I consider myself a one man wolfpack..
My Big Board would be something like this
1 Cam Newton
2 A.J. Green
3 Patrick Peterson
4 Nick Fairley
5 Marcel Dareus
6 Robert Quinn
7 Prince Amukamara
8 Julio Jones
I am thinking this is a two year or more rebuild, add the most talent possible with the 1st pick, Julio Jones would be my final name if I were to list the players in this draft that I feel are “elite” players
You and I share a very similar thought process ENs
Mine would almost mirror yours, although I ha PP at #2, and Dareus above Fairley. Bowers is #3 on my list.
Are you not entertained?
I thought about Bowers after I posted that
& I agree he should be on any list that is about the “elite” players in this draft. I just don’t think he is a good fit in a 3-4 where as Fairley could play DE even tho it’s not his best position
It's not so much as I believe Newton should be the pick
Contextually it just makes sense if the armchair GMs want Jones, I’d rather go with Newton. My #1 Pick would probably Cameron Jordan.

I re-watch film on these QB's over and over
and i’m not ready to rule out Locker. The damn kid has so much potential. He is an exceptionally gifted athlete.
God, if we could trade back, and get him in the later part of the first, I’d be a happy man.
FWIW, I do not like Gabbert at all. The more I see of him, the more I don’t like him. I hope a team falls in love with him, and takes him in the top ten, this leaving us Newton, of a team willing to trade us for the right to draft Cam.

As a Vikings fan, I wanted to say that Locker is at the top of my personal list… A lot of Vikings fans disagree, but I see what you see.
I don’t see us taking him in the 1st round unless he utterly impresses at the combine. The only thing I can hope, is that he falls to us in the 2nd round. I think we might take a chance at him there.
How many lead changes?
What is that, the 3rd or 4th lead change?
Started out as Other/Trade Down…then I thought C.Jordan & B.Gabbert were close for a minute… then J.Jones took a huge jump, and now C. Newton is up by ONE….
You guys better not leave me hanging on a tie :) I haven’t figured out a tie breaker… maybe a coin flip? Best 2 out of 3?

Yeah, I have no doubts the Jets would love to make that trade

“(On tape) I’ve never seen him play the game to a sub-4.4 speed, nor do I see incredible burst & acceleration”
