Mel Kiper's Mock Draft 2.0 came out today. If you have an ESPN Insider account, you can view it here:
Kiper now projects Cam Newton (who he originally had the Redskins taking) as going #3 overall to the Buffalo Bills... Poor guy; he cheated his way through the NCAA to potentially get stuck in that cold, abandoned place. Though I would say Cam Newton and C.J. Spiller in the same backfield does sound delightful.
Kiper has the Redskins now taking Blaine Gabbert with the #10 overall. I must say that, although I want O-Line in the first round (hopefully with a trade-back to accumulate at least 1 more pick), I would be okay taking Gabbert if he fell to us because I think he has good upside with minimal risk (low risk is something that can't be said about Newton, Mallet, Locker, etc.). I would be okay investing in him as our future franchise QB as long as we didn't rush him into the starting line-up until we shored up the offensive line this off-season and next.
The surprising thing about this Mock Draft 2.0 (obviously subject to large amounts of error- but still an interesting topic to discuss), is that it has the Redskins taking Gabbert over several other players that I have heard people discuss that they wanted here at Hogs Haven. These include DE Robert Quinn (DE - #12 to Minnesota), Julio Jones (WR - #11 to Houston), and every O-Linemen in the entire draft (particularly OT's Tyron Smith - #18 to San Diego and Nate Solder - #19 to NYG, and Guard/Center Mike Pouncey - #25 to Seattle).
One other point of interest, is that this mock draft has both Ryan Mallett and Jake Locker falling into the 2nd round (potentially at least one of which could fall to our 2nd round pick)...
Feel free to discuss your feelings below about how you would feel if the draft actually went down as this mock draft projects. And also feel free to clown on Kiper as well.
