I mentioned

It's a keloid

the way it was explained to me is that it’s basically the skin overgrowing from a wound.

Most likely Davis got it from getting his ears pierced. My friend had one too and she got it removed with laser surgery

Archie's comments...

solidfy what I was saying yesterday. I am beginning to believe that the 1st pick is going to be available. What are they going to ask for is in debate, but if any teams interested get whiff that Indy is looking to trade out, that will keep the price down. It is my contention that a player like Trent Richardson would help them more, now and in the future, where they would consider trading down a few spots and picking up a couple of other picks and give up the opportunity to get Luck. Depending on how much it would cost, we should consider it very seriously.

by jgibbsfan1 on Dec 7, 2011 10:22 AM EST reply actions

I understand the 'want' but really it is a 'fool's gold' errand

Archie is right Luck doesn’t need to sit and develop like most quarterbacks, so if Peyton is healthy it is a bit of a waste when a starting caliber QB is such a commodity (much less a star or elite one, as they both could be). But seriously even if the Colts are open to trading back, it will take a groundbreaking deal to get it done.

In the past the price of the top overall pick would have been prohibitive for the Colts and they’d basically have to make a decision by draft day. But now the Colts can draft Luck and wait for the offer they desire. It might not be on draft day, or even in the months after. It could even drag into the season, but someone will get desperate and pay the price (ex. Raiders with trading for Palmer). Now obviously the Colts would prefer to have a deal worked out by draft day so they can add players for next season, but it would be in their best interest to wait until someone is desperate rather than take less than what they think he is worth.

Bare minimum it takes our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounders this year and next.

perhaps...

or they can make a reasonable deal, select Richardson, like I have suggested, or the CB from LSU, see immediate benefits, along with any other picks they pick up. Which, by the way, may include a QB to develop, someone like Keesum or Moore.

by jgibbsfan1 on Dec 7, 2011 11:59 AM EST up reply actions

1. they don't need Richardson

and 2. while they could use any number of players, they aren’t going to give up the most hyped prospect for pennies on the dollar. Some people might get pissed off, but Polian would be wiser to take him and trade him later like I said when some team is willing to meet the asking price. It might hurt them for 2012, but better than taking less than he is worth.

Steveospeak - Content Manager of Fanspeak.com

by Steve Shoup on Dec 7, 2011 1:45 PM EST up reply actions

let me put it this way

let’s assume that Davis didn’t have this suspension hanging around his head and he still had 3 years of cheap team control to his name. Now based on his contract, production and age, he should be dealt for at least a mid-first round pick. But it is draft day and the Redskins need to get an extra 3rd rounder so they can fill their OT need so they decide that instead of getting full or near full value for Davis they give him up for a mid-3rd rounder. Now it fills a more important need and the Redskins still have Cooley so they don’t lose much in the TE department, but they didn’t come close to full value. What would the fan reaction been?

Steveospeak - Content Manager of Fanspeak.com

by Steve Shoup on Dec 7, 2011 1:54 PM EST up reply actions

I think you answered your own question...
Now it fills a more important need and the Redskins still have Cooley so they don’t lose much in the TE department

I believe ALL fans, at this stage of the teams development, would give up TE depth for an improved OL.

I think where you and I differ is the established value. You have been adamant about the costs, which you are entitled to, yet it is an opinion that I don’t agree with. Value is established by supply and demand. A team can ask for whatever, yet that doesn’t mean they are going to get it. Or, if you are Cleveland, and you have someone willing (keep in mind Atlanta had to move up dramatically, unlike what we would have to do), the price could be high. I am not unreasonable. If they want too much, let’s select Barkley. But if we have an opportunity to get Luck, I would not complain, either.

by jgibbsfan1 on Dec 7, 2011 3:52 PM EST up reply actions

they most definitely need Richardson...

1. I am shocked you said that. The Colts haven’t had a true RB since Edgerin James. I know you are of the opinion that a great RB helps a great QB immensely. It opens up the passing game, the play-action passes, time of possession, etc.

2. Hype has nothing to do with what will be best for the team, determined by their FO. Granted, they should attempt to get as much as they possibly can, but the building of the team as they move forward will be based on the many options available to them, least of which is hype.

by jgibbsfan1 on Dec 7, 2011 3:57 PM EST up reply actions

Could the use Richardson? Sure

But their running back situation is even better than ours ( due to depth), and is far down on their list of needs.

Archie is Peyton's dad not the Colts GM

There is a better chance of the Colts cutting Peyton and saving 29 million dollars than there is of not drafting Luck.

not according to Peter King...

they owe him the upfront money BEFORE the season starts, and if they trade him, the salary cap hit is $39 million (look at profootballtalk.com for Peter’s report). They either cut him this offseason or they have him for the next 2 years, minimum.

by Jeff Bernard on Dec 7, 2011 12:07 PM EST up reply actions

so you are of the opinion...

of the entire deconstruction of the Colts, coaching staff, new players, new direction? That is possible. And Luck would be the best way to start. But I am not sold on that complete annihilation just yet, not when Manning BUILT that team and stadium. The fan backlash would be enormous. It is an easier sell to draft a QB later in the draft as the eventual replacement, while getting some top talent at other positions of need.

by jgibbsfan1 on Dec 7, 2011 12:16 PM EST up reply actions

They have had Manning for something like 13 seasons and they have one 1 Super Bowl. That was 5 years ago. He will be 36 years old coming off missing an entire season with a neck injury. This is after coming off a season where they lost in the wild card game to the Jets. The rest of the team is only getting older. Reggie Wayne and Jeff Saturday i believe are both at the end of their contracts this year. Do the Colts really want to pass up on a once in a lifetime prospect(according to "experts) to try and make another run for another 2 years with an aging team who has proven they have the ability to choke it away in the playoffs? I just don’t see it. This season has proven that the Colts are on the decline as a team. I know Peyton is a HOF QB but his absence is not the only reason they haven’t won a game all year long. Even with a healthy Peyton this is not a SB contending team any longer. The Colts are ridiculously lucky to have a shot at the next Peyton. Is it possible they pass on Luck? Sure. I just don’t see it happening.

UVA and Virginia Tech students have a lot in common. We were all accepted to Virginia Tech.

by Jeff Bernard on Dec 7, 2011 12:29 PM EST up reply actions

i agree with you...

and if I was running the team, I would do just as you have laid out. There is just so much more to it than just wins; marketing, name recognition, selling your fan base on the chances the team has to win SB. This is why Shanny refused to ever use the “R” word. If you tell your fans “We are starting over…”, what will the repercussions be? Those are the factors that GMs have to make.

There are still many Marino jerseys when you go see a Dolphins game and he has been gone for a decade. They identify with their heroes. Manning is a Legend in Indy. Could you move away from him (not should you, as I have previously stated)?

by jgibbsfan1 on Dec 7, 2011 12:43 PM EST up reply actions

also...

Archie is Peyton’s voice, since he cannot say what he really feels. But having dad make statements is how Peyton tells the Polian’s how he feels.

The swinging gate is most effective

when you use it multiple times a season, and especially after the opposing team calls timeout to prepare for it.

Really, you should just run the swinging gate on every play.

I’m pretty sure that was a big FU from Zorn to Snyder. “You want me to quit so you can get out of my contract? Not only am I not going to quit, I’m going to be completely ridiculous.”

by Jeff Bernard on Dec 7, 2011 1:29 PM EST up reply actions

Really?

I’d beg to differ

Has never missed a game, a ridiculous number of consecutive starts at an elite level, his stats are ridiculous especially when you put them next to ‘HOF shoe-in’s’ like Ray Lewis, also has had the most tackles since 2000, was also undrafted which is kind of like his career, not being shown the respect he deserves. He’s been a pro-bowl alternative 9 times and oh yeah he won a super bowl.

by travisjh86 on Dec 7, 2011 1:59 PM EST up reply actions

well pro bowls don't mean much to me

I was just showing that he’s been regarded as one of the best for awhile, just not good enough because he doesn’t get all hyped up.

But what about what about the leader in tackles for the last decade? Does he get in?
With a super bowl win under his belt?

by travisjh86 on Dec 7, 2011 3:02 PM EST up reply actions

HOF

To get into the Hall, a player is usually considered one of the top players at his position for an extended period of time.

London is a great player with great stats, but when you think of the top LBs of the past decade, Fletcher is not one of the first names you think.

by StephanHart on Dec 7, 2011 3:11 PM EST up reply actions

Who are the MLB's that come to your mind that are better than him in the past decade?

Other than Ray Lewis who is probably the general consensus pick for best MLB in the past 10 years, I’m sure we’ve all put the stats side by side and said damn.. What’s the difference?

by travisjh86 on Dec 7, 2011 3:20 PM EST up reply actions

Well there has been Ray Lewis, Brian Urlacher, and then everyone else

I know London has been great, love him. But to be in the HOF, you have to be one of the best, Fletcher isn’t

by StephanHart on Dec 7, 2011 3:34 PM EST up reply actions

I'd take Fletcher over Urlacher any day

He HAS been one of the best.

But I guess it’s useless arguing with you if you really think there has never been a year where he was a top 5 Linebacker.

I understand it will be difficult for him to get in, but comments like that are asinine.

by travisjh86 on Dec 7, 2011 3:43 PM EST up reply actions

I think its asinine to say that you'd take Fletcher's career over Urlacher's

And it is NOT asinine to say that I don’t see Fletcher as a HOFer. He’s a great player, but he’s never even been a perennial pro bowler or all pro….

by StephanHart on Dec 7, 2011 3:52 PM EST up reply actions

I said

it’s asinine to say Fletcher has NEVER been a top 5 MLB in any given year he’s played.

As for me taking Fletcher over Urlacher, I’d rather have a guy that has been healthy his entire career and puts up similar numbers in all categories and better in some.

by travisjh86 on Dec 7, 2011 4:30 PM EST up reply actions

London Fletcher definitely has the stats to be in the HoF.

He has been at the top of the league in tackles his entire career, is a leader (at the defensive QB position) & is easily one of the top of ILBers of this generation. Getting the recognition that you are due during a career is not necessarily a prerequisite of HoF balloting. I would guess that it will take a few years after he is eligible but in the end he will get in.

by ENsDad27 on Dec 7, 2011 4:45 PM EST up reply actions

third try

I said it’s asinine to say

There was never a year where he was a top 5 linebacker.

So he’s never been a top 5 MLB in any given year that’s he’s played?

As for Fletcher/Urlacher, I stand by asinine comment, very similar careers so far with one major difference, Fletcher never gets hurt!

by travisjh86 on Dec 7, 2011 4:44 PM EST up reply actions

Lewis is considered one of the best MLB/ILBs

to every play the game, and is generally considered a first ballot HOF LOCK.

Compare Fletch’s and Lewis stats side by side. Fletch’s are very, very close, espcially considering he has been in the league for 2 less seasons.

I love London and wish he would get more credit but the guy is not a HOF LB. He is the hall of really good.

Ware?

He’s been in the league for like 6 years and plays a different position, Same with Suggs, porter, Harrison. You can’t compare them, theyre pass rushing olb’s. Willis is obviously a monster but can he keep it going for 10 more years? Maybe, but Zach Thomas couldn’t touch Fletcher’s jock strap IMO and the only thing bruschi has on fletcher is more super bowls. Seau’s sack numbers are better but the guy played for 20 years.

Point is, all of these guys you named fletcher can be compared to or is better than IMO.
