Daily Slop: Laron Landry Takes Responsibility for 1 TD
How to fix the Offensive Line this Season: | Fanspeak Washington Redskins Blog

Nice of Landry to take the blame, but he falls for every single fake.
Anyway, i would like to see Hank, Paul, and Austin more. If they are the future, they need game time.
by getmoneykid on Oct 31, 2011 8:22 AM EDT via mobile reply actions
Hank for the little he played impressed me on his long catch at least.
Can’t say if he ran wrong routes again though.
We can find lots of faults with players...but as I have stated
for the last 3 weeks….our real issue starts with coaching. Our playcalling on offense is scary bad. Unless Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson and a reasonable o-line show up out of the blue, the long developing plays, pass and run, really need to be deleted from the playbook. And he may want to consider running out a few formations the opponents haven’t seen 50 times.
Maybe it was due to new players, and a new qb…but the new QB was their choice.
And remember, the players didn’t want a change at QB. The Shanny’s are now 0-3 with there QB choices (Btw – Beck’s balls don’t wobble much in practice. But in the game he has one of the worst balls I have seen from an NFL QB in a long time. Look at the replay of the interception. It makes me sad, but that is neither here nor there).
Shanahan is about to lose the locker room soon. He is going to have to choose between the team and his son. Sooner rather than later would be a good idea.
How about the defense is really bad
Cut back lanes were there every single run….set up play action. Once teams start running it on us were done.
Defensive play calling wasn't stellar as well..
And apparently D – Hall concurs…
"That’s a tough question, man," Hall said. "I mean, you got a good seat, just like I do. You know, I don’t go in there and gameplan with the coaches or pick plays and things like that. I sit back there, I get the game plan. I review it, I go over it, I watch film, I try to figure out a way to help us win the game. And ultimately we go out there and we execute what’s called. [Pause] So. [Pause]. I don’t know. I don’t know the answer to that question for you, man, but you can best believe we’re out there still fighting, we’re clawing, trying to get every yard, trying to make every play."
We got outcoached in every facet of the game…
I didn’t see a bunch of missed tackles on those big plays. Just wide open holes or well designed screens taking advantage of Haslett’s aggressiveness…
I don't think I agree.
How many 3 and outs did the Offense have? And the D only gave up 23 points. Sure, the Bills moved the ball plenty, but a good team can sometimes score more than 23 points. And how long was the time of posession for the Bills? That has to wear them down.
Last point: even if the D had shut out the Bills, we still wouldn’t have won.
I hate ties.
I think there should be no such thing as a tie in the NFL. Just me personally.
by Xin Baixiang on Oct 31, 2011 9:30 AM EDT up reply actions
well a tie basically means..
both teams lose. If you ain’t first, you’re last!
Its not just about points
they kept the ball out of our offense’s hand just as well as our offense kept the ball out of their own hands.
when is
Noodles Shannahan going to take any blame? Dad can only protect him for so long. He sucks!!
by Wyler98 on Oct 31, 2011 8:42 AM EDT via mobile reply actions
why cant we
Run from a spread formation or spread the field??. Our offensive formations sometimes looks like giant cluster fu*cks where everybody is waiting for the bong to be passed to them!
by Wyler98 on Oct 31, 2011 8:46 AM EDT via mobile reply actions 1 recs
he loves bunch formations
I saw a series where every play was out of a bunch or tight formation…
I assume it is because Kyle wants room for his receivers to get separation horizontally out of man…but maybe he forgot who his receivers were…
at least mix it up…
You could put Jerry Rice in his prime out there
and without protection for the quarterBeck nothing is going to happen.

I'm pretty sure the league is going to force Buffalo to forfeit for yesterday's game
Fitzpatrick was wearing metal on his hand, which is illegal. AND Buffalo had a Vampire playing, which is also illegal.

perhaps I was wrong...
maybe this team’s talent level is some of the worst. Perhaps a QB like Luck could not make such a difference. The last I checked, QB does not play defense. All this talk about what a great FA signings we had this year, with mid-priced talent, seems to have completely been a mirage. Coefield has done nothing @ NT since week 2, and I haven’t heard Bowen’s name in awhile. I am tired of Haslett’s zone scheme for the secondary, with WR finding open spaces, easy for opponent QB to throw to.
Keeping this up, I may just get my wish and have a shot at Andrew Luck. Unfortunately, he will not be elevating anything. The anemic display and the regression this team has taken (nosedive), places us on the – what do we do now? list. I don’t know if anyone, here on this blog or in the league (or perhaps in some TV studio) has any answers.
I saw highlights from the Nascar race, where Kyle Busch left the pits and his front tire came off. Not only embarrassing, but inexcusable. That is where we are. SUCKS AGAIN!!!!! AND AGAIN!!!!! AND AGAIN!!!!!
Check again, if we had an offense that actually stayed on the field for more than 30 seconds then our defense would likely be a lot better
The last I checked, QB does not play defense.

So many problems...
The WRs are not getting separation, Beck is holding onto the ball like its his first born, the OLine is trying their best to get Grossman back in via getting Beck injured, our Running Backs are needed more for pass protection….so many woes.
by Xin Baixiang on Oct 31, 2011 9:29 AM EDT up reply actions
It makes you wonder if benching Grossman was premature
the players certainly weren’t for it. For all those folks who say it doesn’t create problems I think we may be seeing an example of it.
Personally I don’t pin much of this on the defense. When you look at the offensive numbers Buffalo has been putting up and see that our D still kept the game in reach until the very end I have a lot of trouble blaming them. They were never going to be elite this year but we went into the half down 13-0 which is still a winnable game. The D certainly was far from perfect but In my mind this loss is 100% on the offense.

As a Bills fan, I was much happier to see the Bills going against Beck. Beck had an atrocious game against the Bills when he was a Phin.

It was more a commentary on a lack of data.

They need to shake up the team.
Cut Banks. Paul returned kicks in college and had a couple of TD’s. I’d rather have it at the 20 than the 13.
I was a HUGE Banks supporter at the outset of the year, now I can’t stand watching kickoffs.
Not the entire team.
Our front seven on Defense is reasonable. It certainly is better than it has been in some time.

what lack of recent experience?
Paul and Austin both did it in camp and preseason, and work on it some in practice, not to mention they are only 1 and two years removed from being all-conference returners.

Editor at Hogs Haven - Redskins Blog

to some extent, yes.
We have no depth because two drafts can’t fix everything. And the lack of talent is partly Snyder’s fault.
Contrary to popular belief, I am not Jewish.
No, losing was mostly the fault of the Offense.
But I’m perfectly willing to admit that I’m still bitter over the last decade of mismanagement that allowed a team known for strong offensive lines to degrade to the point that we have.

I would have been happy with 8-8. What bothers me is NOT EVEN COMPETING!!!! I can accept a loss when the team showed effort. The Dallas game is a great example. I didn’t like the loss, but we were competitive, holding their offense to 6 FGs. I can live with that.
This NON-EFFORT is unacceptable. The regression is unacceptable. It leaves fans with no idea what to root for.

All good points,
It also seems that the young WRs come up when needed the most, I didn’t rewatch Hankersons TD drop, was it a drop or was it a helmet on ball situation? Either way Paul and Austin are preforming when asked to as well, we just don’t have a legit #1 to attract more attention.

they simply lack the personnel to be good. There isn’t a coach in this league who could make this a good team. You can’t playcall around that offensive line. The screens got blown up, the runningbacks were hit 5 yards in the backfield or had to run around it. Our d got abused and honestly, it was a team loss all around.

Really? Did you see Sav Rocca punting the shit out of that ball? Man, our punt game is beast, best free agent pickup this offseason.
I think everyone needs to chill out
We have all been lobbying for our team to rebuild. Everyone knew this was going to be difficult and that we’d go through these growing pains. It’ll take another draft or two before we will have a solidly competitive product on the field.
We need to all collectively take our lips off the barrel and realize it will take time. We’ll get there, though.
+1
I’m with you on this. It’s why I think all the talk of mortgaging the farm for Luck is so nuts, assuming such a trade even ends up being possible. We need to approach this draft the same way we did last season. I do think we should try for a qb but I also think we need to consider trading back for more picks whenever possible.

Many of the sports analysts said that the colts would not draft luck, saying that is an insult to Peyton who should be in win now mode, trying to get one more ring, and a first round pick should be a starter not a backup while Peyton could use a key piece.

Well it never fails.
The Skins have once again done it to me. Every year my optimism is set into overdrive, then they suck the life out of me; leaving just a shell of a fan, waiting for the next beating.
THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN, PART 1 – IN THEATERS NOVEMBER 18TH!!!!!
Look at the positive
Now that you have accepted reality, if something fun comes up on a sunday, you can go do that.
They’re rebuilding. My forecast of two more wins might be too optimistic.

No, you just tend to really make ridiculous predictions.
Oddly enough, your record is same as the redskins this year. 3-4.
Plus 34-17 seems to be your standard prediction.
I’m not made or trying to pick on you, it just seems like you can be a bid excitable when it comes to making your scores for the week.

Weak Points
Secondary
Offensive Line, outside of maybe Williams depending on how injury prone he is in the future.
QB
RB
WR
I’m thinking we should trade back in the draft and pick up a herd of work-a-day players.
Will Trent be back this week? Santana for Miami?
If TW back, put Hurt at LG, Monty back to C, maybe Locklear or Smith to T

Yes Bench him
and when TW returns put Locklear over there and move Hurt to LG, Monte back to center, bring up Willie Smith, cut Banks and Donte.
What other Oline do we have on the practice squad? Just saw the Giants signed Capers to the practice squad on October 4. Hey I know we cut him, but he played in our system for two years. Can’t be any worse.

Anybody notice that
Chad Rienhart was on the Bills? I did not know that, he had a couple good blocks too
I see a lot of comments that Brown has been terrible
and Locklear is supposed to be good at RT, and Smith is promising. I leave it to the coaches, but I could see Brown getting benched.
i don't know if 'leaving it too the coaches' is a good idea since they got us into this mess in the first place

The only hope for the Oline
is for Williams to come back, put Monty back at C, and find a starting LG out of thin air. Moving Monty to LG made two positions worse. But I don’t see a magic LG appearing…

Although a large part of our offensive woes were due to players who lack talent, part of our problem was due to poor player selection for plays.
Examples
The end around for Stallworth??? They should’ve used someone faster who could turn the corner – Armstrong, Austin or Banks.
Running the ball to the outside with Torain??? Torain is a smash mouth down hill runner. Going to the outside is not his strength. Any stretch plays should’ve been handed off to Helu.
Bomb to Stallworth (who tripped)??? It was obvious that play was called for Stallworth – but why? He’s not that fast and doesn’t have great hands (or great feet). Horrible receiver choice for that play.
"If a man speaks and there is no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong???"
First of all
I freaking hate end arounds. They work like 12% of the time. Second of all, why attempt that as the second play of the damn game? So worthless.
Also,
question marks: Use one at a time. More than one at a time and they get angry.

A lot of college QB talk last week, and many said they were tuning in this week?
I’m curious what everyone thought?
Luck?
Barkley?
Tannehill?
Griffin?
Let me know if you tuned in. I’d be interested to hear everyone’s opinions.

I saw Tannehill
he looks unpolished, but has a ton of upside. Big kid, knows how to run. I think he’d fit well in the offense, but I’d rather have Landry Jones.
I keep trying to like Jones, but the few times when he's faced with pressure he makes terrible decisions, IMO.
Crazy Tannehill had to throw like 55 times Saturday.

Living on the Best Coast,
…And being a huge Pac-10(12) fan, I think that both Barkley and Luck acquitted themselves very well this week. That was, as a good man says, a Slobberknocker, and neither QB collapsed under the pressure in my opinion.
Both seem to be able to tolerate pressure, both seem to have strong decision making skills, Barkley seems to rush his passes a bit, and Luck seems to rely on his OLine, but I’d not cry lava if either was drafted by the Skins.
by Xin Baixiang on Oct 31, 2011 10:45 AM EDT up reply actions
I'm not nearly as high on Barkley's game as most people were
his numbers were greatly influenced by the overtimes and he was highly inaccurate on the move…give me Tannehill or Griffin.

Am I the only one getting tired of the fans on here that constantly harp about one thing being "the problem"?
The fact is that this team needs a serious overhaul on offense just like the defensive paradigm shift we got this offseason. After that, we need another year to address the lack of depth on both sides of the ball.

exactly
there were too many holes to fix in one year. Shanahan can’t have a press conference and say it, but this year is simply a rebuilding year, and no one should expect anything more.

Someone mention this to Dan Snyder
I worry he is getting his pink slips ready and may be willing to eat the cost of Shanny’s contract
I hope not
we’ll see. Shanahan is on record saying he told Snyder that this would take five years. Snyder is on record, and others have reported, that he is enjoying the team a lot more now that he is less hands on. Just have to have patience.

we should all write letters to Snyder begging him not to fire anybody for the next 3-5 years
What I thought in the beginning of the season was, we needed a QB and this rebuild would be about done….
What I now realize is we’ve only just begun this rebuild
I actually agree with you.
I hope we can give Mike his five years to turn it around. Sad to say for London, don’t see him on the field at 40.
by MAJSkinsfan on Oct 31, 2011 11:34 AM EDT up reply actions
Yeah :(
Everybody keeps saying 5 years what if in 2 years the team is good and in the playoffs, The next year would be mikes last? Or would he stay to try and win a championship and go over the 5 years, or does he just want Kyle to get the job.
If Mike turns this thing around…him and Bruce Allen need to stay and keep making our draft picks for us.
Not saying Mike is gone at 5 years
Saying Shanahan told him it would take 5 years to rebuild the team.

I'd hope even Snyder knows doing that might be the final nail in the coffin for this team
I don’t know who he could get to come coach if he did that.
I do think Shanahan needs to be given the length of his contract to right the ship. The rot goes a lot deeper than I think most of the fan base and media are willing to admit to themselves. Personally I’d be surprised if we have a single player on the roster drafted (by the Redskins of course, this doesn’t necessarily include FA’s) before 2009 by the time this team is a contender.

I don't care is Washington drafts a qb or not
because job 1 this off season is to, at minimum, upgrade the right side of the line. Newton wouldn’t be having the kind of season he is having if he didn’t have a good oline in front of him.The fact is, a very good oline can be constructed in 2 seasons through draft and FAs.

The line has been ignored for years…continues to be ignored and we get the same results. At least 5 new linemen need to be brought in for next season to start and provide depth
