The Redskins do not have a poor team. In the past, even when we had more talent, we had a poor TEAM. I do not believe this is the case this season. We may be lacking in offensive talent, but overall, we have a better TEAM. What we seem to be lacking, especially on the offensive side of the ball, is a true leader.
We have a strong leader on the sidelines in Mike Shanahan. He's a proven winner who guys want to follow. He demands perfection, yet gives his guys the freedom to be their very best. He brings out the best in his assistants, and turns doubters into believers.
We have a good leader on defense in London Fletcher. Although Fletcher is more of a "lead by example" type, he also isn't afraid to grab a guy on the sidelines, and coach him up. He has also been know to take a rookie under his wing, and make him a better football player both on and off the field.
If only we had that type of player on our offense. We need the type of guy who can grab a young WR by the jersey after he has made a mistake on his route, and coach him up. We need a guy who after a drive stalls, can go to his linemen on the sidelines, and light a fire under their asses. We need a guy who can get in someones face after a poor play, and motivate him to seek redemption for that mistake.
It seems we have been lacking this type of player for years. We had a little of this in Clinton Portis, but he was not the ideal candidate. I would say the last player with this type of mentality on offense was Chris Samuels. Now I know Chris was more of a "lead by example" type, but he wasn't afraid to get in a guys face either.
I don't know if we have this type of guy on the Redskins.
Thoughts??????
