Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

List of All the Ex-Redskins in the 2010 Playoffs

When LSU started running away with the Cotton Bowl, I decided to compile a list of former Redskins that are currently with playoff teams. There's quite a few of them, and the Saints lead the way with 6. The Chiefs, Patriots, and Packers do not have any coaches or players I saw that wore the Burgundy and Gold.

Seahawks (1/8 4:30PM EST)
Sherman Smith - RBs Coach - Former Redskins Offensive Coordinator
Jerry Gray - DBs Coach - Former Redskins DBs Coach

Eagles (1/9 4:30 PM)
David Akers - In his 12th season.
Jeremy Clark - On Redskins PS this year Dec 16-25th
Antonio Dixon - UFA signed in 2009 by WAS. Big time DT starter for PHI now.
Dimitri Patterson - CB for Redskins in 2005 (3 games)

Saints (1/8 4:30PM)
Ladell Betts - 8 games, 45 attempts, 3.3 yards a carry (IR)
Chase Daniel - 3 career passes (week 17)
Pierson Prioleau - Strong Safety
Leigh Torrence - DB
P.J. Hill - Redskins RB in 2009 (no games played)
Gregg Williams - Defensive Coordinator

Star-divide

Colts (1/8 8:00 PM EST)
Justin Tryon - Starting CB  - 4th round draft pick
Javarris James - On our practice squad for 24 hours this year.
Cody Glenn - Cerrato 2009 draft pick (on IR currently)

Steelers
Ryan Clark - Safety opposite Sean Taylor before Landry
Antwaan Randle El - 2010: 16 games, 22 rec, 253 yards, 0 TDs
Shaun Suisham - (13/14 FGs with PIT)
* - Chris Kemoeatu - Ma'ake's brother

Ravens (1/9 1:00 PM)
Jim Zorn - Qb Coach
Al Saunders - Senior Offensive Assistant
* - Dawan Landry (Brother to Laron)

(Note: Jared Gaither is on IR...thank God we didn't trade a high pick for him).

Jets (1/8 8:00 PM)
Mark Brunell - Living the dream
Jason Taylor - OLB - 16 games, 5 sacks, 2 FF, 1 safety, 36 tackles.

Falcons
Terry Robiskie - Interim Coach when Norval got canned.

Bears
Todd Collins
Edwin Williams -  2009 UFA Right Guard from MD
Eddie Williams - 2009 Full Back - 7th round draft pick

Did I miss anyone? If there's one guy you could have back, who would it be (besides Zorn)?

Maybe Akers

Imagine having a fairly consistent kicker for the past 10 years…

Gregg Williams

If he was our HC I’m pretty sure we’d be a better team right now.

Miss him.

Of course, it would have been nice to have Ryan Clark or David Akers.

Surprised Justin Tryon is making it as an NFL starter… Colts secondary has been really hit by injuries though.

I dunno

Snyder interviewed the players and supposedly there was a big divide there in the locker room re ; Gregg Williams. In hindsight though, you want a coach that the players don’t have it easy with.

Then again

There was always that 3-year stint in Buffalo where Williams went 17-31 as HC..

always remember

Bill Belichek was less than stellar in Cleveland. Not comparing the two, just saying even a GOOD coach needs the right players to work with

RIght players +

right organization + right owner + sometimes you need to fail before you can be successful to really know what works for you and what doesn’t.

I have a feeling

that the sole interview Snyder conducted was with Portis, the King of Coddle. Given our recent history of kow-towing to players rather than making everyone accountable (i.e. pre-Shannys), Williams may have been a good move. My biggest concern would be that Williams and Cerrato would have been totally ineffective, being unable to work together at all and the resulting turmoil would have doomed the franchise anyway.

Really now?

Then why does he have those guys playing for him at a high level every week?

Terps come one now

you said we “Were Playing at a high level”

well 6-10 is not a high level

Not being able to block ppl is not a high level.

Having a below average Recieving Core is not a high level

Giving up the most yards (or in the bottom few) in the League is not a high level.

Monday Night vs the Eagles was not a high level.

By no stretch of the imagination can what the Skins did this year be called playing at a high level, The New England Patriots, now that is a high level. We were Below mediocre

Also,

Chris Clemons is the Seahawks’ best pass rusher. Skins cut him twice

SHAUN SUISHAM

Really, Antonio Dixon or Ryan Clark. Both good players.

by BigOLinemen on Jan 8, 2011 5:37 PM EST reply actions

I have to go Aikers

at first glance, I thought Gregg Williams-no brainer, but you really don’t know how that would have turned out. I am sure it would have been better than Zorn….but long run? who knows, (it probably doesn’t help that I am watching Seattle shred his defense) but I don’t think brings enough to the table to get Snyder to back off the way has with Shanny. Dixon would be great if he could adjust to the NG position, I don’t know enough about him.

by MagicHat on Jan 9, 2011 1:28 AM EST reply actions

I guess Akers

though I really wanted to see us keep Dixon. I’m pretty sure we cut him to keep Renaldo Wynn. Why do I keep expecting this team to make the right decision?

by CJHutch on Jan 9, 2011 9:39 AM EST reply actions

I'd want

G Williams as HC (and this being his 3rd Year) not withstanding his woeful performance in the Seattle Game. Football Outsiders said BEFORE THE GAME, that Hasselback has one strength as a QB, and that is taking advantage of the blitz. and the best way for the Saints to win would be to NOT BLITZ, but like so many Def Coaches, Greggs arrogance got him and he went Blitz happy, particuarly on 3rd Down.

Player, without doubt Ryan Clark. As much as love Landry, if we still had Clark we could have used the Landry pick on a DT in that draft and avoided the Haynesworth pick or even O-Line.

Do you think the Redskins' scouting department ever feels like the most under-appreciated group in the league?

They find a lot of starting-caliber players for the Skins, all of whom then get cut before playing well for anyone else.
