Could The Future at FS Already Be On The Roster?

Injuries may have led to Kareem Moore's poor season but so did his coverage skills, poor tackling, lack of playmaking ability, and pursuit angles that would have frustrated even a failed geometry student. Another one from the draft class of 2008 that has proven to be more of a liability than asset and is adding to the long list of offseason players required to upgrade this 31st ranked D.

So what are our options at upgrading the position of Free Safety?

Free Agents

Roman Harper (NO) 28 YRs Old / 6'1 200 / 2x pro bowler. Currently plays SS opposite Jenkins but has the coverage skills to switch to FS.

Eric Weddle (SD) 26 YRs Old / 6'1 / 2010 All Pro.

Tanard Jackson (TB) 25 YRs Old / 6' 200 / Impressive young talent that has been suspended for his 3rd violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. He'll be reinstated September 22, 2011.

Danieal Manning (CHI) 28 YRs Old / 5'11 202 / 2008 Pro Bowl

Brodney Pool (NYJ) 26 YRs Old / 6'2 205

More after the jump...

Eugene Clifford, FS, Tennessee State 6'1 200. Projected 40 Time: 4.57. (5th -7th)

On the Roster.

Kareem Moore, Seen enough to want an upgrade. Possible backup and special teamer.

Kevin Barnes, 6'1 185. 2009 3rd RD pick out of Maryland. This kid is fearless and played pretty well down the stretch when forced into the FS and SS position even though he is probably only 185 soaking wet. This brings me to my point. He has the frame to add 15 LBs without losing any speed (4.5 40) and explosion/ups (38.5 vertical). He certainly has the smarts (41 on the wonderlic), the hands, and is a decent tackler for being undersized. And lets us not forget that he can bring the lumber...
