Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

For the record, I am one of the people who puts no stock in these kinds of reports. I think Haynesworth will be here all season. The money's already been paid, and whether Haynesworth is in DC or not, people will still be asking Shanahan about him all year.

The article mentions that the Redskins want two (unspecified) draft picks, and the Titans still think that's too high a price.

I’d take a 2nd and a 3rd for Ms Buttersworth.

They aren’t getting that. I’ve had a decent knack for putting trade values on various players, but with Fat Albert I’m struggling to figure out what his worth really is, but I know for sure it’s not a 2 and a 3. I’m thinking the Titans would consider parting with one pick… perhaps a 3, maybe even something as low as a 4? And I think the Redskins would be smart to get what they can and put that nightmare in the rear view.

Yeah, good point. But I’m hoping they would at least be offered a 2nd. But it might come down to them getting a 4th and taking it as you say. If he is going to be traded at all.

A lot more here too
People who reviewed film of the game described Haynesworth’s play as “awful,” saying he showed little effort and did not follow the principles of the 3-4 defensive scheme.
Haynesworth also angered coaches when he did not attend a halftime meeting to discuss defensive adjustments and review photos of the Arizona Cardinals’ blocking schemes.

WTF

I hope he gets hurt for not playing full out. I know, bad karma, but I’m getting tired of his fat ass.

I can understand what you're saying

But how much effort did we really expect Haynesworth to give in a meaningless 4th preseason game? Don’t get me wrong, he definitely should have dominated WAY more than he did, but I didn’t necessarily expect him to play “full out” in the 4th preseason game.

92

There were times when the ball was snapped he’d just grab the other guy standing up and then watch the rest of the play.He clearly wasn’t trying. If I were allowed to post video I would…screen grabs wouldn’t do much.

I agree

He definitely wasn’t trying as hard as he could have. And ultimately, I am highly against him not giving at least a respectable amount of effort. But I’m just saying that I didn’t really expect him to play all out in the 4th preseason game. And I anticipate him giving much more effort come the regular season.

id take..

a 3rd and a player at a position of need, WR. If we are going just draft picks I would hope for a 2nd and 6th. Honestly though, id settle for just a 3rd rounder at this point. If we could manage to come away with just a 2nd I would be ecstatic. Imagine having 3 picks, in the top 50, what a change that would be. I would go with a Nose Tackle in rd 1, a Guard/Center with the first pick in rd 2, and a running back with the haynesworth pick. BOOM.

I'd use all three of them on tall pass-catchers

by CarverM on Sep 7, 2010 12:26 PM EDT up reply actions

we dont need tall pass catchers...

of the top 10 WRs from last season only 4 are over 6’1" and its 50/50 on the 6’ over/under. size isnt really key.. Size is only really a key if the WR is slower and has to jump for the ball more often… It is easier for a smaller WR to get to the ground on lower balls… What you want is a Fast, good route running individual with great hands.

Wow - Donovan supports him that much?

If you add in the Philip Daniels quote, it would seem the team supports or is at least hopeful on Albert. The reports above on the AZ game are irritating, but also a little puzzling. Shanahan specifically said he “worked hard” and made a few mistakes. Unless he’s taken up Swahili, he isn’t that much down on Albert, and neither is Haslett. Just reading between the lines, I see a hint that they are accepting Albert for what he is, and hoping and planning to use him effectively. Factors would be how well he knows the various packages and roles, and how long he can go “all out”. Some of the apparent laziness in the AZ game could have been him trying to do what he was supposed to do – which often includes controlling a certain space. When you’re not sure what you’re supposed to do, you may hesitate and end up not doing much of anything. No question that he has to work hard and practice and fully internalize his role. Until he masters a role, it’s probably better not to use him in that role. Shanahan and Haslett seem to know that.

by Donnio1234 on Sep 7, 2010 1:51 PM EDT up reply actions

yea, could be just smoke and mirrors to help his trade value

It’s the same BS they’ve been saying since this summer. Before it was “as long as he shows up to camp fine” and now its “week 2 or 3 he should be good.”

They’ve been in his ear since this winter and he’s continually let everyone down…

That's what I think it is

Based on the comments from Shanahan and Haslett about Haynesworth’s performance against Arizona, it seems as if they’re trying not to say anything negative about him, and instead say that he should/can/will get better with time.

Shanahan’s comments

“I don’t go through a lot of detail but anytime a person plays the defensive end position and nose position, it takes some time — it doesn’t happen overnight,” Shanahan said. “He played a lot of plays,; I thought he did a good job, considering he played as many plays as he did do at a couple different positions. And not having the reps some of the other players had at it, it was work that was well needed and he played hard.”

This sounds like Shanahan trying to make excuses for Haynesworth’s play and/or trying to make Haynesworth look like a good trade asset. At least in my opinion.

by bigrm18 on Sep 7, 2010 2:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Or could it be that people are blowing all this Haynseworth stuff out of proportion again and Shanahan meant what he said?

"You're fucking out!"

by travisjh86 on Sep 7, 2010 5:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Possibly

But anyone who actually saw Haynesworth play would not say that he did “a good job” or that Haynesworth “played hard” as Shanahan did. Maybe Shanahan was just saying that not to stir any trouble, or to possibly try and increase Haynesworth’s trade value.

However, no one can honestly look at the game film against Arizona and say that Haynesworth “did a good job” or even say that he “played hard.”

by bigrm18 on Sep 7, 2010 7:33 PM EDT up reply actions

I had not read that quote

but it does not sound like he was making excuses or trying to enhance trade value, or even trying to put a good face on things. “I thought…good job…” and not having…reps…well needed…played hard" along with recognition of the difficulty of the assigned task. Just seems like he sees reality: Albert doesn’t know all the schemes, but is working hard to learn them. No anger or criticism, just looks at him as a player who has some strengths and weaknesses, so Mike’s job is to play him where and when he will help the most. About enhancing trade value: what MS says doesn’t mean much because other teams know what he can do, and the question is motivation. But any team that gets him would be assuming that he would change, and be happy and would play hard. By the way, just getting draft picks for him makes no sense to me – he’s gone and we have nothing. A 2011 third round pick probably wouldn’t contribute much until 2012 or later, if at all, and a 6th rounder is almost completely worthless. Basically, we just lose a dominating defensive lineman, and get nothing. How can that help the team? If we could trade him for a top O-lineman – that would be reasonable.

by Donnio1234 on Sep 7, 2010 3:23 PM EDT reply actions

Is he really working that hard? Really?

Because it doesn’t seem like it.

I'm back. YAY SUMMER!

by DCO'sfan on Sep 7, 2010 5:24 PM EDT up reply actions

I just read fuller quotes from Daniels and McNabb

The team seems strongly behind him, and they know he is working hard and trying to learn the system. They definitely want him. Nothing Shanahan said negates that. The AZ game may have been a little deceptive. An article today from Teresa (something) says Shanahan “made” him play the whole game, whereas before the game quotes from AH and others suggested he wanted to play a lot, to learn the system.
I think there is someone in the Redskins front office literally carrying out a vendetta against Albert, leaking all kinds of negative, misleading and outright false stories about him. This trade stuff is the latest. How do you think that story makes Albert and the rest of the team feel? If Albert is sorry he missed the camps and is working his tail off to learn the system, how would he feel if he learns the FO is trying to trade him? Why would anybody leak something like that? it can’t be anybody thinking of what’s best for the team. This sleazy disinformation campaign has gone on for months – as I’ve said before, you can’t believe a word they say. Be clear – I don’t think the leaker is Shanahan, Haslett or Bruce Allen, but some little twerp assistant.

by Donnio1234 on Sep 7, 2010 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Disinformation campaign

Sally Jenkins and other sportswriters accused Vinny Cerrato of exactly that kind of crud – spreading lies and turning one against the other, dividing the team. But it’s gotten worse since Vinny left. The vicious, know-nothing campaign against Haynesworth is despicable and hurts the team. By the way, I don’t refer to Kevin or John Keim or anybody who is just trying to figure out what is going on with Albert – I’d like to know that myself. I mean the leakers who leak lies and other negative stories, half truths and disinformation.

Saturday will tell

We are left in a position of bewilderment with this guy..
Someone suggest that we keep him through the season and see how he performs…if he does decent, maybe after having gained some experience with the new system it just might make him better come 2011. Also , his play this year could even decide his NFL future
If possible , Dont trade him.
