The transactions list the team moves since the cuts.

http://www.nfl.com/transactions. Most players went back to the practice squads of the teams that cut them. A few were claimed off of waivers by other teams. As long as these guys are on the PS they are free agents that any team can claim. The teams that cut these practice squad players already have a lot invested in them. Yet it is a let down that some player of position need has not been claimed by the Skins.

The pick up of Mike Balogun by the Skins does not make much sense to me. He is not any faster than Henson and is smaller plus he does not have the training in the Skins’ defensive schemes.

I have my thoughts on this one....

far be it for me to get into Shanny’s head, but….perhaps this is where we are with Mike Shannahan. He obviously has made a big deal about the off season work-outs, and has been very serious about changing the culture around here. Now he can look everyman in the locker room in the eye, and whether or not he says it out loud, he can say “You guys have been here from day one (AH is AH and I think is still a separate entity)you have worked hard and you are my team….and I believe in what we have right here….we are good enough with what we have to go out be competitive”….that has to be good for morale.

by MagicHat on Sep 7, 2010 10:55 AM EDT up reply actions

on that note ....

TJ was the first name thrown around that I really wanted, but with the way contract is set up, I think it was just a “throw your hat in the ring and see which one he picks up”….oh well….I would like to see some OL depth, but other than that I am happy with what we have, we have been bad for a long time…….changing the culture is not easy….as hard as it is for me to say……good job Danny, from what I have read the re-bonding with the Redskins Fans seems to be sincere.

The Redskins and Titans have revisited trade discussions for DL Albert Haynesworth, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.
Mortensen says there is no deal yet, as the Titans feel the Redskins’ asking price of at least two draft picks is still too high. At this point it would be best for all parties involved for Haynesworth to be shipped out of DC, but it remains to be seen if a deal will get done. Snyder

I don’t think he “removed himself from all decision making”. That’s not going to happen – he’s the boss. But everybody can hope that he does not meddle too much in things about which he knows little – namely, football (the technical, sports side of it). Shanahan is the expert on that, so Snyder should rely on him. When Zorn was coach, Snyder didn’t have a reliable expert to rely on. Snyder and/or Cerrato had to ignore Zorn when they tried (supposedly) to obtain Cutler and Sanchez

Did you see Fedex the last half of last year?

Fans were about as pissed as I have ever seen them. Snyder was staying away from his box as much as possible.

Yes, he essentially held himself accountable. What choice did he have though, fans were seathing at him in the stadium and I’m sure his pocket book was starting to take a hit. Don’t you rememeber all that? How easily we forget.

by skinsymets on Sep 7, 2010 2:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I read that Cerrato

took full responsibility for drafting DT, MK and Davis, and by extension, the whole draft that year. Pretty classy to admit it. I assumed Snyder was the main push behind Haynesworth because so much money was involved, but that he would logically have relied on Cerrato to do the negotiating – trying to get him at the best possible price, judging the market, etc. By the way, on trading AH – can’t they try to get a player – like an offensive lineman – instead of a draft pick? Whether they should trade him depends on just how valuable Albert is, given his attitude and knowledge of the defense, not just now, but during the season. At this stage, I want a top O-lineman more than I want AH.

Vinny may have hit his "level of incompetence"

as envisioned in “The Peter Principle”. Many people do, which is inevitable in a bureaucracy or other structured meritocracy. You keep getting promoted until you get to a job you can’t handle. Jim Zorn is an example. Snyder is different because he is an idea man/entrepreneur who did not rise through an organization. Obama is similar. Most real giants do not rise through a bureaucracy – they usually grab some opportunity.

I would take last year’s season opening offensive line and backups over this one hands down.
The starting center three have looked shaky during preseason, we have two backups for those three positions, the center having never even played center in an NFL game. Our starting right tackle missed all of last season and most of this preseason with a hip injury (Bo Jackson’s career was ended by a hip injury), his back up is Stefon Heyer!
Any sane man would be worried! No

or

T. Williams

I’ll take plan B, we had freakin Heyer starting last year along with a bunch of old farts made of glass. I wouldn’t freak out too much about 8 linemen, if you haven’t noticed we still have Capers, Cook, and Robinson who can fill in off of the Psquad.

No, I'm not on crack (or Kool-Aid)

Samuels and Thomas were pro bowlers. Neither of which was coming off an injury, Brown is (a serious one). Trent Williams has great potential, but zero experience. Dockery,Rabach,Hicks all have experience but have looked shaky under the new scheme. With the exception of Heyer and Montgomery, none of the backups or practice squad members have any NFL experience.
I don’t see how you can justify carrying eight players for three positions on the defensive line and carrying just eight players for five positions on the much more important offensive line.
It just seems bass ackwards to me.

O-line comparison

Both years the starting five were OK, with the problem being no depth, no quality back-ups. Last year – Samuels, Dock, Rabach, Thomas, Heyer. Subs – BMW, Rinehart. Granting Heyer was weak, Samuels and Thomas were top quality players if they stayed healthy. This year – TW, Dock, Rabach (a year older), Hicks, Brown. Backups – Heyer, Licht, Montgomery. Everybody says the practice squad linemen are very raw. I totally agree with Skins Fan 77 that the starters are alright or average or so-so (remember, TW is a rookie, Brown is coming off a serious injury, and the interior three are all just average), but there is no depth at all. Heyer is by far our best backup!! If anybody goes down – especially Brown – we are screwed. As Skins Fan 77 says, and I second, it’s a real dicey situation – we definitely need at least one quality lineman. It could be a RG, freeing up Hicks to back up other positions, or a tackle. Whatever, the O-line still needs help! Bruce Allen ought to be scouring the wires for good O-linemen!

by Donnio1234 on Sep 7, 2010 3:54 PM EDT reply actions

Sapp

is a bigmouth, and using his forum to even old scores. And he doesn’t like the Skins, or know anything about them. Just ignore him. He implies Bruce is a figurehead, and I doubt that is true, given his closeness to Snyder. But since Shanahan is in charge, Allen can’t do whatever he wants. But I suspect he, in effect, holds the purse strings. And recent events (failure to acquire top WRs or O-linemen) suggests somebody is pretty tight-fisted – and it’s not likely to be Shanahan. I worried about the same thing (a sudden attack of frugality) in the off-season, when so many top people slipped through our fingers.
