NFL Network Adds Theismann To The Booth Because They’re Assholes
Deadspin, to put it lightly, is not too happy with Theismann. I'm pretty vocal that I dislike his booth presence, but this guy takes it another level. How many games do people really watch on NFL Network anyway in a year? A handful.

The transactions list the team moves since the cuts.
http://www.nfl.com/transactions. Most players went back to the practice squads of the teams that cut them. A few were claimed off of waivers by other teams. As long as these guys are on the PS they are free agents that any team can claim. The teams that cut these practice squad players already have a lot invested in them. Yet it is a let down that some player of position need has not been claimed by the Skins.
The pick up of Mike Balogun by the Skins does not make much sense to me. He is not any faster than Henson and is smaller plus he does not have the training in the Skins’ defensive schemes.

I have my thoughts on this one....
far be it for me to get into Shanny’s head, but….perhaps this is where we are with Mike Shannahan. He obviously has made a big deal about the off season work-outs, and has been very serious about changing the culture around here. Now he can look everyman in the locker room in the eye, and whether or not he says it out loud, he can say “You guys have been here from day one (AH is AH and I think is still a separate entity)you have worked hard and you are my team….and I believe in what we have right here….we are good enough with what we have to go out be competitive”….that has to be good for morale.
on that note ....
TJ was the first name thrown around that I really wanted, but with the way contract is set up, I think it was just a “throw your hat in the ring and see which one he picks up”….oh well….I would like to see some OL depth, but other than that I am happy with what we have, we have been bad for a long time…….changing the culture is not easy….as hard as it is for me to say……good job Danny, from what I have read the re-bonding with the Redskins Fans seems to be sincere.
I can see that from Shanny
He can say you guys put in the effort, we’re not bringing in someone else who hasn’t been through our meatgrinder. Nice.

I like Theismann as well. He just gets on my nerves quite a bit. Though I tune him out most of the time. Same with Brent Musburger on college games. Brent is 1,000,000 times worse though.
The Once and Future King
Frankly I think Theismann is a prick,
but not horrible at his job, he gets paid to talk, and he talks, and talks, and talks…..far be it for me to criticize someone for saying something incredibly stupid from time to time. I was fortunate enough to meet and get to know a lot of Redskins when I was a kid…..I really looked up to him until I saw how he interacted with us “little people” for that I will always look at him as an overblown, self important prick.

definitely.....
I was very frustrated for the Ravens game because I was watching an internet feed and was psyched to hear Sonny and Sam, but the delay was intolerable……….those Baltimore announcers would have had you beggin for Theismann.
I really soured on him when I noticed how much he talks.
A few times during the preseason I wanted to listen to a penalty explanation and Theismann was either laughing at his own joke or babbling about something unimportant. He sucks.
I'm back. YAY SUMMER!
Joe Theismann
Me too – I like him, even though he talks a lot and makes some mistakes. He knows a lot and notices a lot. I remember his comments on Leinart – devastating. Also on route running by Thomas and Wade – good insight from a good QB.
Please please please please
Let Alex Barron start at tackle for the ’girls. He looked terrible this preseason.
Yup. He's also the most penalized OT in the history of the earth.

Haynesworth trade talks back up????
this was on rotoworld…..
Haynesworth
The Redskins and Titans have revisited trade discussions for DL Albert Haynesworth, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.
Mortensen says there is no deal yet, as the Titans feel the Redskins’ asking price of at least two draft picks is still too high. At this point it would be best for all parties involved for Haynesworth to be shipped out of DC, but it remains to be seen if a deal will get done. Perhaps Haynesworth could resurrect his game in his old stomping grounds. Sep. 7 – 9:18 am et

I could be wrong, but the fact that the Titans are revisiting this leads me to believe they’re going to bite eventually. The Titans D-line was bad in preseason so it’s no suprise the talks are back on. It may take a regular season game or two for the Titans to make up there minds but I’m starting to believe this will inevitiably happen.

He was fired when Shanahan came in but had been w/ the team for years…he said the Hayensworth signing was all Snyder…not one bit Cerrato….he simply laughed when I told him some of the things Snyder said in our interview with him. I plan on reaching out to PR again. Pretty pissed.

Just so happens that you joined two weeks before the dallas game last year and you haven’t posted once until now this year. Your definitely NOT a Redskin fan.
If Snyder even remotely thinks
About making another football decision for this team, we’ll be screwed in the worst way. We all can only hope that he’s now realized (after 10/11 years…) that he’s a complete retard when it comes to creating a football team.
What a waste of 10 years of my life
It took him a decade to realize you can’t win playing fantasy football in the NFL. What a donk.

not surprised.....
Snyder is not going anywhere, and I believe that there is sincerity in his desire to change, time to move forward. He is doing a lot with alumni, and seems to want to enhance the fan experience…..it does nothing for anyone to try to hold him accountable (crucify) him for all of his past mistakes.
by MagicHat on Sep 7, 2010 11:16 AM EDT up reply actions 1 recs
Yes we can hold him accountable for previous mistakes
1 – because it is the yardstick for measuring him down the line, and
2 – it is inherently part of his legacy. How he measures up overall remains to be seen.
Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
Actually, this is the opposite of the truth

You hold people responsible for their actions in the hope that they change future behavior.
"By far the worst performers on the team are in the front office." – Sally Jenkins
EXACTLY!
He needs to be held accountable, otherwise the tendency is to go back to old ways. In fact, accountability is the only weapon the fanbase has to fight the stupidity of Snyder. Make no mistake about it, when it comes to football, Snyder is a dumb munchkin from the land of oz.
Mr. Snyder is a football failure.
How do you hold him accountable?
Who is going to do that to the billionaire owner of the Redskins? I would suggest that he has held himself accountable.
The original comment basically implied that we shouldn't criticize him for past mistakes
this is false.
"By far the worst performers on the team are in the front office." – Sally Jenkins
that was not my intended implication at all.....
We (well I can’t speak for everybody) I have been very critical of Mr. Snyder but we have been through the new hirings and the draft and preseason….do I trust him completely, but I like what I have seen. We have Dallas, prime-time in less than a week, acknowledge that he has made some good moves and get on the bus and enjoy the ride……we may experience some turbulence,
left out a critical word there....
do I trust him completely….NO, but he owns the bus and I am gettin on
Haynesworth & Snyder is a sub plot
but a plot nonetheless.
There are Snyder apologists who claimed over the past 1-2 years that he removed himself from all decision making, so when this is proven false, it bears mentioning.
"By far the worst performers on the team are in the front office." – Sally Jenkins
Snyder
I don’t think he “removed himself from all decision making”. That’s not going to happen – he’s the boss. But everybody can hope that he does not meddle too much in things about which he knows little – namely, football (the technical, sports side of it). Shanahan is the expert on that, so Snyder should rely on him. When Zorn was coach, Snyder didn’t have a reliable expert to rely on. Snyder and/or Cerrato had to ignore Zorn when they tried (supposedly) to obtain Cutler and Sanchez
One hopes Snyder doesn't force personnel moves
but we’ll see.
"By far the worst performers on the team are in the front office." – Sally Jenkins
Did you see Fedex the last half of last year?
Fans were about as pissed as I have ever seen them. Snyder was staying away from his box as much as possible.
Yes, he essentially held himself accountable. What choice did he have though, fans were seathing at him in the stadium and I’m sure his pocket book was starting to take a hit. Don’t you rememeber all that? How easily we forget.
I read that Cerrato
took full responsibility for drafting DT, MK and Davis, and by extension, the whole draft that year. Pretty classy to admit it. I assumed Snyder was the main push behind Haynesworth because so much money was involved, but that he would logically have relied on Cerrato to do the negotiating – trying to get him at the best possible price, judging the market, etc. By the way, on trading AH – can’t they try to get a player – like an offensive lineman – instead of a draft pick? Whether they should trade him depends on just how valuable Albert is, given his attitude and knowledge of the defense, not just now, but during the season. At this stage, I want a top O-lineman more than I want AH.
Classy? No. It's what adults do. Admit responsibility for their actions.
Vinny is rarely an adult though.

Vinny may have hit his "level of incompetence"
as envisioned in “The Peter Principle”. Many people do, which is inevitable in a bureaucracy or other structured meritocracy. You keep getting promoted until you get to a job you can’t handle. Jim Zorn is an example. Snyder is different because he is an idea man/entrepreneur who did not rise through an organization. Obama is similar. Most real giants do not rise through a bureaucracy – they usually grab some opportunity.
Holy chin straps!
How is it that Donnio is the only one to reference or make light of the fact that we have eight, 8! Offensive lineman on the roster at this moment?
I’ve been shaking my head in dismay, and waiting patiently for smuts or carver to start tearing into the front office about the final 53 man roster… It hasn’t happened so I guess it falls to me.
But still, ISN’T ANYONE ELSE CONCERNED ABOUT THE LACK OF DEPTH ON THE OFFENSIVE LINE? You

A lot less concerned than I have been over the past couple of years…
Less concerned this year?
Methinks you may have been to the punch bowl this year one too many times Sir.
I would take last year’s season opening offensive line and backups over this one hands down.
The starting center three have looked shaky during preseason, we have two backups for those three positions, the center having never even played center in an NFL game. Our starting right tackle missed all of last season and most of this preseason with a hip injury (Bo Jackson’s career was ended by a hip injury), his back up is Stefon Heyer!
Any sane man would be worried! No

I’ll take plan B, we had freakin Heyer starting last year along with a bunch of old farts made of glass. I wouldn’t freak out too much about 8 linemen, if you haven’t noticed we still have Capers, Cook, and Robinson who can fill in off of the Psquad.
No, I'm not on crack (or Kool-Aid)
Samuels and Thomas were pro bowlers. Neither of which was coming off an injury, Brown is (a serious one). Trent Williams has great potential, but zero experience. Dockery,Rabach,Hicks all have experience but have looked shaky under the new scheme. With the exception of Heyer and Montgomery, none of the backups or practice squad members have any NFL experience.
I don’t see how you can justify carrying eight players for three positions on the defensive line and carrying just eight players for five positions on the much more important offensive line.
It just seems bass ackwards to me.

Really? Samuels played 12 games the previous years.
What pro bowl did Thomas play in?
I think you know what I'm trying to say...
Randy Thomas was a Pro bowl alternate in 2003. Granted, Samuels did miss some games prior to last year, but my point is, do you feel better about Brown or Samuels all things being equal?
Would you feel better about Randy Thomas or Hicks?
really my point is this, I think we have too many players for the defensive line and not enough for the offensive line. Smuts is right however, if the quality of the players were higher, I would feel better about carrying eight offensive lineman…

That doesn't make any sense!
Trent Williams is taking Samuels spot, not Brown! Brown is taking Randy Thomas spot. And yes I feel better about that…
I’m concerned that we have 3 OT’s, one of which is named Heyer and the Brown guy’s hip is questionable.

O-line comparison
Both years the starting five were OK, with the problem being no depth, no quality back-ups. Last year – Samuels, Dock, Rabach, Thomas, Heyer. Subs – BMW, Rinehart. Granting Heyer was weak, Samuels and Thomas were top quality players if they stayed healthy. This year – TW, Dock, Rabach (a year older), Hicks, Brown. Backups – Heyer, Licht, Montgomery. Everybody says the practice squad linemen are very raw. I totally agree with Skins Fan 77 that the starters are alright or average or so-so (remember, TW is a rookie, Brown is coming off a serious injury, and the interior three are all just average), but there is no depth at all. Heyer is by far our best backup!! If anybody goes down – especially Brown – we are screwed. As Skins Fan 77 says, and I second, it’s a real dicey situation – we definitely need at least one quality lineman. It could be a RG, freeing up Hicks to back up other positions, or a tackle. Whatever, the O-line still needs help! Bruce Allen ought to be scouring the wires for good O-linemen!
Sapp
is a bigmouth, and using his forum to even old scores. And he doesn’t like the Skins, or know anything about them. Just ignore him. He implies Bruce is a figurehead, and I doubt that is true, given his closeness to Snyder. But since Shanahan is in charge, Allen can’t do whatever he wants. But I suspect he, in effect, holds the purse strings. And recent events (failure to acquire top WRs or O-linemen) suggests somebody is pretty tight-fisted – and it’s not likely to be Shanahan. I worried about the same thing (a sudden attack of frugality) in the off-season, when so many top people slipped through our fingers.
