Campbell. McNabb. It all distracts from our core franchise problem:
We need to comprehensively add talent in the form of studs and role-players and depth all over this roster. Drafting is a very difficult way to do this. Unfortunately, it's also the best way to do it.
Commit to the draft means using our first, second and third round picks on rookies for at least two years in a row. No trading any of these picks for 30 year old players at any position or skill level. No more free agents who get $15M or 20 or $60M guaranteed.
We simply have to use the most cost-effective and historically successful way to obtain this talent and build this team: the draft.
There's no other way.
This does not require a 3 year rebuilding period where we go 4-12 every year (something we achieve occasionally without even rebuilding anyway). We can be competitive the whole time. Build a good foundation of talent and attitude and we will find incremental success as we start to make the playoffs regularly and eventually become true contenders.
