Around SBN: Tottenham's Plans for Northumberland Stadium Approved

Just out of curiosity...

I'd like to hear everyone's take on this:  Let's just say we go with Ben's notion that the 'Girls are about to implode this year and in fact they do so.  Surely this will mean the end of the Son ova Bum.

Who do you think will be Dallas' next HC?

The biggest name I can think of who will likely be available is Bill Cowher.  Do you think Jerruh would bring in such a high powered dude?  Would Cowher take the job knowing his boss is going to be a controlling pain in the arse?  Do you think Jerruh goes for an up and comer? ...a relative unknown?  ...a re-hash of someone who has recently been canned or will be canned after this year?  Does anyone know what kind of ties Jerruh has around the league he could tap into? Any other ideas/names?  Perspiring minds want to know...

As long as it doesn't keep Shanny

up all night having to prepare for the Swinging Gate! I guess Danny Smith should know how to defend it, now that I think about it.

Even if Jones decides he must totally clean house?

Must be a bit awkward as the current situation stands having the successor already in line.

I don't think he is any more.

Three years ago I would say it was Garrett, but I think he’s fallen out of favor (expecially when they clearly do not run as much as they should). And do you really think Jerry is going to pass up a slew of SB coaches?

by Parks Smith on Sep 1, 2010 9:38 AM EDT up reply actions

That's what I was thinking

Garrett’s play-calling, and infatuation with passing over running has been questioned on more than one occasion. I don’t think Jones would put his beloved Cowdungs in the hands of Garrett, considering the other potential candidates out there.

Is Garrett a disciple

of Andy Reid?

No he's pretty much always been in Dallas

Was the QB coach with Miami for like a year or two.

by Parks Smith on Sep 1, 2010 11:35 AM EDT up reply actions

It seems like he is

Even though he isn’t. Just like Reid, Garrett over complicates things at times and decides to draw up some fancy pass play when in most instances, a simple run play would suffice.

by bigrm18 on Sep 1, 2010 12:18 PM EDT up reply actions

That, and

Romo has at times made him look like a genius when he pulls some Favre-esque looking crap outta his bum. Personally I think the whole lot of them are overrated, but sometimes Romo has a horseshoe shoved up their. End result: Garrett’s offensive unit gets yardage and points that look good at the end of the year.

but I don’t see Jones passing on Cowher if he could get him.

by MagicHat on Sep 1, 2010 9:17 AM EDT reply actions

agreed

I think any open job in the NFL is Cowher’s for the taking, and he’s more likely to be lured back by the cowboys than most anyone else.

Was thinking that as well.....

he is an NC guy, but, as mush as I hate to say it, there is that allure of being the coach of the Dallas Cowboys….I don’t know what Cowher’s feelings are being in the spotlight, but it is a “storied franchise” and that is a draw, the desire of “returning a team to greatness” has to be a coaches dream, I hope it doesn’t happen just because it might be a very good fit.

Could see Johnson gaining “great insight on survival” or some other crap mea culpa, leading him to take his new found faith in personal strength to Jones as a reason to come back “anew”. a mighty fine venue for sure. Was more fun when I was in school and you could brown bag it. Dry stadium now. Probably a good idea considering they are almost up to 110,000 capacity. That’s a lot of potential for drunken brawls.

MSU should be dry

I was at the “cold war” game at MSU. Great game, even though I had no rooting interests, but there were FAR more fights in the stands than on the ice – plenty of beer flowing and the faithful were feeling it. Thank God it ended in a tie, otherwise there woulda been a riot!

Unless Alabama wins the BCS. I could see Jones luring Saban back to the NFL and both being unapologetic abou tit. Plus that would give me one more reason to absolutely hate the shit girls! (as if I need more reasons…)

Jones went to Arkansas

I don’t know how he’d feel about a Crimson Tidey as his HC – although I’m sure it would give him great pleasure to steal him from ‘Bama. Plus Saban would have to give his statue back – isn’t that ridiculous to even have to bring that up?

He's not a Tidey

Like Bear or Stallings, he’s more like a mercenary. Goes where he can win and make money. He’s got about as much allegiance towards anywhere he’s coached as I do towards, well, I dunno, but he’s got none.

Statue? Guess I was asleep during that conversation!

They built him a statue for winning the BCS championship

It might even be at the state capital in Montgomery.

Yes, I know about the mercenary aspect. My brother went to Michigan State. Has yet to even consider forgiving him. But winning triumphs all in this situation.

Here's reportage/was wrong on the location

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama’s statue of national championship-winning football coach Nick Saban will be unveiled in August as it will not be completed in time for Alabama’s April 17 A-Day game, the Tuscaloosa News reports.

Instead, a public event will be held sometime in the weeks before Alabama’s Sept. 4 season opener, with the event also serving as a dedication of the stadium’s south end zone expansion, UA Director of Athletics Mal Moore told The Tuscaloosa News.

A few thoughts

A) Cowher won’t work for Jones. The consensus for a long time has been that Bill wants total control over personnel and football operations, and that doesn’t work with Jerruh. It’s one of the reasons he was never a legit candidate for Washington, as Snyder hadn’t yet given up control as he has now to Allen. John Gruden will have the same problem; he previously worked under Allen, but if someone’s going to lure him away from broadcasting, he’ll want that same level of control Cowher wants.

2) Jones will want to make another big splash, so I think doing the logical thing and hiring Garret is out. One of the best ways to get headlines (and sometimes fresh ideas) is hiring from college coaches. Three names on his short list: Chris Peterson, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer.

D) He won’t have the courage to actually do that though, and will hire another old hand from the NFL ranks that has had at least one unsuccessful stint as a HC. Someone like Gregg Williams, Marty Morniwheg or Dick Jauron, someone who will toe his line and be his puppet.

Ewww to Peterson. Meyer has heartattacks every 5 minutes, and why would someone hire Saban? How did that work out for the Dolphins?

Get on the Jon Gruden train with Mike Leach at OC. WHAM!

I didn't say *I* liked those names!

They’re the “it” boys in college coaching though.

Gruden would be a nightmare for everyone else in the NFC Beast if Dallas hired him. I just don’t think he’d work for that kind of owner.

If he can’t handle the pressure of being on top of the college game, no way he goes pro. I was just using him as an example of someone whom I consider outside the Texas cultural arena – just my opinion. I’ll probably find out he’s originally from Lubbock, now. :)

Those coaches who get a good analyst/announcing gig on TV just love it

They seem to have a ball. Big money, less work, less pressure, a lot more fun. Greatest job in the world. I’d be surprised if Gruden went back to coaching, unless he got fired.
