Colt Brennan is a Raider

Colt signed with the Raiders today.  Ironically, he will be backing up Jason Campbell once again.  I really hope he does well in the preseason and plays to his potential this time around.  Personally, I think that he'll make the final 53 man roster in Oakland.  I mean he's on the Raiders now... if Jamarcus Russell was good enough to start for 2 seasons in Oakland, Colt Brennan is definitely good enough to stick around and play 2nd or 3rd string QB.

Now all the Raiders need is Todd Collins.

Doubt he makes final roster

If he does they’re really hurting

I'm worried about the beer supply. After this case, and the other case, there's only one case left- Barney Gumble

I’m right there with you, they said the only reason they signed him was because both Gradkowski and Frye are hurt going into their first preseason game Thursday…

by Parks Smith on Aug 8, 2010 9:03 AM EDT up reply actions

I could see him making it over Frye

But then that would assume that the Raiders carry 3 QBs this season

by kseandoyle on Aug 8, 2010 9:23 AM EDT up reply actions

The Raiders sites are saying....

they just signed him to get through the first preseason game. With his familiarity with Campbell…..JC can teach hi the playbook and terminology faster so they have another camp arm!

Colt

I think there is something wrong with him – he has never recovered his “arm” after numerous injuries and the disastrous attempt to change his throwing motion. He should work hard on “remembering” his old style, try to get back his rhythm. It could still be possible, and the old “magic” would come “suddenly” – after a lot of hard throwing. But it might never come back. If it doesn’t, he’ll be cut.

Colt

The Redskins ruined him. What a shame. Let’s hope he can rebuild his old throwing motion in Oakland…

How did the Skins ruin him?

He is lucky he had a shot…..why do you think he didn’t get drafted until the 6th round. He got kicked out of a major college for theft and possible sex crimes…….then got a second chance at Hawaii. He is lucky he got a chance to collect the million or so he already pocketed. He is not a NFL caliber QB….period. He has a glass hip….horrible natural throwing motion……and can’t read a third string defense. The only thing ever on his side was luck!

nonsense...what did they do take a sledge Hammer to his hip?

At Hawaii he was in a gimmick offense…John Kaleo played in Duffner’s run and shoot at U MD and amassed similar numbers

The old WAC had guys every year that threw for big numbers…one guy named Miller out threw Bledsoe as a Senior at Utah..and he became a Dentist

Aha!

Finally, information we can use to predict the potential success of draft picks! System QBs make good dentists. /filing away for future reference/ :)

We just have to disagree on Colt

But we’ll know where he stands very soon. If Oakland cuts him – that’s the end – back to surfing for my guy. Somebody above said they may have signed him just to help Jason learn the playbook. Lots a luck with that! Oakland may be learning about JC already.

by Donnio1234 on Aug 8, 2010 3:14 PM EDT reply actions

What shvd said above was

“JC can teach him the playbook & terminology faster so they have another camp arm” The idea being that JC can teach your boy faster because of their familiarity from their time together in DC

by ENsDad27 on Aug 8, 2010 5:21 PM EDT up reply actions

I misread it

Thanks. He’ll probably get cut, but it is a chance. We’ll never know and many would disagree, but I think that in his pre-Zorn condition he was better than Jason. He’s hurting now though.

by Donnio1234 on Aug 8, 2010 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions

You can’t even compare the two JC is heads and shoulders above Colt. Would you rather have a 6’5 QB, that went to a legit college program (which basically won a national championship, with a rocket arm OR a 6th round 6’3 former rapist who played in a gimmicky offense for a WAC team. There is a reason Colt has never seen the field in a NFL game.

pre-Zorn condition? Zorn is one of the best Quarterback coaches in the league, Colt was lucky to be put in Washington and learn under Zorn as a QB and he was put in a situation where he could compete for the back up role but continually lost to an old man…

by Parks Smith on Aug 8, 2010 8:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Colt vs JC

The reason I always thought JC was mediocre, average at best, was, partly, that he did not know the offense, but mainly, that he did not have what I called “field vision”. He could not see, quickly enough, when guys were breaking open. He missed – did not see – open receivers. He could not decide quickly enough where to throw. That is the essence of QB play, and he was slow at it. It is a skill, talent, ability, “gift” – and JC did not have it, for whatever reason. Without that talent, it does not matter much how good your arm is, or how big and strong you are. That talent is necessary but not sufficient – you still need a relatively strong and accurate arm, durability, etc. At one time I thought it possible that Colt had that indefinable talent – one all successful NFL QBs have. But it appears that he lacked other needed qualities. I speculate that trying to change his throwing motion was a disastrous mistake from which he never recovered, a mistake Kyle Shanahan recognized and tried to undo. But it didn’t work. For whatever reason, Colt is probably finished as an NFL QB. On JC, if my theory is correct, he’ll never be great or even excellent – he lacks one necessary skill. I admit, I could be wrong. There could be an offense tailored to his skill set, in which he could thrive. We’ll see.

The truth sometimes hurts (I assume you are a big “JC lover” like LJP). Not much substance in your post, so I won’t bother answering.

by Donnio1234 on Aug 10, 2010 1:14 PM EDT up reply actions

No, nobody is a bigger JC lover than LJP

Let’s get something straight there. JC had his flaws but to say he is worse than Colt is, as tw10 put it, fucking idiotic. Colt couldn’t get it done against third string players, and you still maintain that he was once brilliant? This had nothing to do with Zorn and his fucking throwing motion. Most 6th round QB’s end up as career benchwarmers or out of work in 2-3 years. Besides Tom Brady, and Steve Young who I guess you could call a late round QB, are any late round QB’s in the HOF or are destined to get there? No. Colt was just another one of those.

Brennan didn’t have a strong or accurate arm, and had ZERO durability. I don’t get you sometimes, Donnio. You seem to pull these crazy ideas about players out of nowhere, neglecting to see the evidence (see Haynesworth, Albert). Colt is not a good QB and never was. Deal with it. How much will it take to change your mind? You seemed to be set of impressions of players and no matter how much you are proved wrong you find yes, idiotic ways around those valid arguments. So yes, a lot of the time you are a fucking idiot. The truth does hurt — I know.

I'm back. YAY SUMMER!

Colt

Check my post carefully. I never said Colt was ever brilliant, and never said he was ever better than JC. Also, I never thought or meant to say that he was even an NFL quality QB. What I said was that when he first came in he showed some flashes that suggested to me that he might have that quality (field vision – ability to find and hit open receivers) needed to be a good QB. But I stressed that that one quality was necessary but not sufficient. A QB needs some other key qualities, like arm strength, accuracy, judgement, durabilitiy, etc. And I actually said that Colt apparently lacked some of those qualities. I also said that he was not an NFL QB now and was likely to be cut.
In one post I suggested that Zorn trying to change his throwing motion was a disastrous mistake (one Kyle Shanahan said he was not going to make), but that was speculation. For whatever reason, he never again showed his rookie year form. We’ll never know if he was an NFL level QB, but the easy answer is that he was not – that he was doomed from the start by lack of ability. On JC, he has a lot of strengths, but I think – just my opinion – that he does not have the quickness, decision making and field vision skills he needs to be a top NFL QB. So, we’ll see how he does at Oakland.

by Donnio1234 on Aug 10, 2010 10:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Rookie form?

What did he do his rookie season? A couple good preseason games? Against 3rd stringers?

It could still be possible, and the old "magic" would come "suddenly"

It sounds like you think he was good. Apparently you are not only dumb but to much of a b!tch to defend your own opinions.

Colt had a sweet college career

putting up ridiculous yards in a fun n gun offense in the WAC, followed it up with a one sweet preseason game and he was better than JC? Donnio, you’ve about beat this illogical horse to death. An accurate analogy would be goign down to your local middle school playground whipping ass in a game of 2 hand touch and then realizing that if coach would have put you in in the 4th quarter you guys would have won state. Colt Brennan failed, end of story.

He looked good today

He threw some impressive passes today (including some deep balls) and is keeping himself in the running for a roster spot so far. He seems to be leading his receivers well and putting the ball in all the right spots.
