Possible Trade Opportunity for the Skins

How about the Redskins actually acquiring a draft pick instead of trading one away?

Star-divide

In case you haven't heard Denver Broncos linebacker Elvis Dumervilsuffered a torn pectoral muscle during Wednesday's practice that will sideline him indefinitely. As stated above, Dumervil is listed as a LB but is primarily a pass rushing specialist. When I heard this news I thought that the Broncoscould be interested in DE/LB Andre Carter. Seeing that Carter is more suited to a 4-3 defense that Denver runs coupled with the fact that their next leading sacker only tallied 4.

I'm not saying Redskinspark should be calling Denver immeditaly but this could be a way for us to recop a 3rd or 4th round pick back. What does Hogs Haven think?

Should the Redskins attempt to trade Andre Carter to recop a draft pick?
Yes. It would help us rebuild and add depth plus Carter is nearing the end of his career.

No. We don't have any depth behind him and we need as many bodies at LB in a 34 defense.

in fact,

CptChaosSidekick called Dumervil a linebacker and then suggested replacing him with Carter. But the reason Carter could be out the door in DC is because he’s NOT suited to be a linebacker, thus the whole 3-4 vs 4-3 thing

I think

It is an interesting possibility, but don’t underestimate Andre. Lorenzo may be starting, but Carter WILL get reps, in the plenty, on pass rushing situations. He might be dropped down just because he isn’t a good enough 1st and 2nd down OLB. Regardless, I think Andre should stick around, unless he expresses a desire to leave, and then I say we go ahead and trade him.

We should make a move for Eddie Royal...

Trade Santana Moss and Malcolm Kelley for Eddie Royal. It can be a good deal for us if Orton don’t use him again this year plus they just drafted the GTECH WR.

Why would the Broncos take a past-his-prime receiver and a still-unproven/possible-bust receiver in exchange for a 24-year old already proven receiver?

I agree with you Ksean

However, you can’t 100% put it past McDaniels, the Broncos have had a firesale of talent over there

Eddie doesn't have a massive contract

or a attitude problem….no reason to trade him

Carter

should be very useful whenever Haslett uses the 4-3, which could end up being pretty often if we can’t find a decent nose tackle (reports coming from camp and HH that all the NTs are looking shaky). But also, on trading Carter – you’re saying just give him away for a draft choice next year? That means he’s just gone this year – we don’t have him – and we don’t get anybody to replace him? What if there is no season next year? I want to win now, and dumping a very good player for nothing doesn’t help with that. And a third or fourth round pick? That and 25 cents will get you a quarter – any pick below the high second round is a near total crapshoot, or guess. We know Andre can play.

Wining now

That plan hasn’t really worked for the Redskins in the last 10 years.

A 2nd round pick isn’t considered a crapshoot and in resent drafts there has been better talent for value there.

I agree that the lack of depth behind Carter is a concern. Due to Carter’s age, I think getting value for him is very tempting. We are already missing our third & fourth round picks next year and looking ahead we are going to need a ton of depth at OL, RB, LB, DL.

I'm worried about the beer supply. After this case, and the other case, there's only one case left- Barney Gumble

If the Skins revert to a 4-3 on occasions

even the shaky NTs can function in DT rotations.

What I hope to see formation wise anyway

I love the idea of running a 34 hybrid scheme. I found this article on the Ravens SBnation site and is a MUST read!

I’d link it but I’m doing this on my phone.

The followup article that BAL_Hawk promised in the article on running a 34 hybrid scheme.

The article was posted before the Ravens drafted Cody. Apparently Cody and another DLman got chewed out yesterday or today by the coach.

Doug Dutch

The CB we traded for QB John beck said of his practices with the Ravens that they’re pretty similar. That’s good to hear. I’m aware that they also have the personnel to run it but I like that we might be modeling it after their D.

Article was on Washington post redskin insider.

Switching from 3-4 to 4-3

I thought one easy way would be for Carter (OLB, 3-4) moving up to DE, 4-3), the DE (say, Haynesworth) moving to DT, and the NT becoming the DT, and the other DE (3-4) staying as the DE (4-3). Is that feasible, the way it’s often done? If that happened often, Carter would be the ideal guy to move up.

Denver runs a 3-4

Hey Dez, it's 2am do you know where your mother is?

I'm all for it

I don’t think Denver would do it, but I’d jump at it if they did. Carter is starter material, but it’s time for us to move on.
