Bring the Run back to DC

I was reading some Football Outsiders thing on the weekend, that showed that even though, we supposedly have these high powered offences built around the pass in the modern game, actual scoring average is down compared to when the Running game was dominant.

This then got me to thinking about last year, with Cincy and the Jets both making the playoffs with basically a run-based attack. These were also 2 teams that had massively overrated QB's.(I spent a lot of time last year thanking the gods Vinny did not mortgage our future for Jay Cutler, now I am even more glad the Jets got Sanchez instead of us, that kid is awful, an interception machine, and if Hard Knocks has taught us anything, is the furthest thing from a Leader you could ever hope to see)

Anyway it seems to me, that you get the gaudy stats with the pass, but considering Shanahan has a history of Running based game plans, our recievers are iffty, and we can look at at least 3 games with Rex under centre, I hope we commit to the run early.

Advantages of the Run:

Shortens games, less plays, means less injurys.

Gets young Trent Williams into an aggressive mindset early.

Protects McNabb from potential hits.

Less chance Rex loses us the game.

Keeps our iffy receivers out of the game.

The less plays thing is big, particuarly when we play the big teams.

So it may be unsexy and against the league wide trend, but I hope we go to a run attack this year.
